APPENDIX D: FY 2014 TECHNOLOGY PLAN APPROVED PROJECTS AND FUNDING Assistive Technology

$0.3 million

This initiative continues the ongoing requirement to provide assistive technology (AT) as required for FCPS

students with disabilities and 504 plans. AT purchased through this initiative include: augmentative communication devices, adapted access peripherals, adapted technology for the visually impaired and curriculum support software and devices. Approximately, 3,000 FCPS students with disabilities have individual AT requirements. Assistive technologies purchased through this initiative range in cost from $49 to $15,000 and are purchased as needed for both individual students and groups/classes throughout the fiscal year.

Computer Lease Costs $3.4 million

This project funds annual lease costs for desktop and laptop computers used by students and teachers.

Education Decision Support Library (EDSL) $0.2 million

Funding supports the ongoing maintenance of the Education Decision Support Library (EDSL) software and databases. EDSL is a state-of-the-art decision support system and data warehouse that enables teachers, administrators, coaches, and specialists to plan, monitor, and assess programs and strategies. Now in its third generation, EDSL's latest version contains data regarding various aspects of a student's FCPS experience such as formative assessment performance results (eCART), NCLB-mandated test results, school and class enrollment, attendance, marks, standardized test performance results, and program participation. EDSL can be divided into three main areas: a Data Exchange component; a Data Management component; and Analytics Tool component. The requested funding provides for the support necessary to maintain the extraction/transformation/load process that enable data exchanges between various source systems and EDSL; sustain publishing processes that facilitate data publication on a monthly/annual basis; respond to changing reporting and/or security requirements for existing dashboards and reports; and to address the needs of ever-expanding customer base.

Enterprise Application Integration $1.8 million

This initiative provides an applications infrastructure that enables applications (e.g., iSIS, HRIS, EDSL, eCART, etc.) to share information and functions; make application functions accessible via the web; and automate work flow across application and organizational boundaries. It also provides for a centralized approach to identity

management.

Enterprise Desktop Management $1.4 million

Enterprise Desktop Management is an essential ongoing initiative required to maintain a secure, standardized, and reliable computing environment while delivering applications to students and staff in the most effective and efficient manner possible. FCPS utilizes hundreds of applications and a multitude of technology resources requiring extensive configuration, critical updates, and a host of other desktop support services. There is a significant ongoing need in FCPS to manage desktops, laptops, and, increasingly, mobile devices including the ability to

provide hardware and software reporting, anti-virus/anti-spyware protection, enterprise management reporting, critical security patching, and software deployment and management.

Exploring Science Through the Lens of a Digital Microscope $0.2 million

The elementary science curriculum requires that students explore small living and nonliving specimens. The integration of a USB Digital Microscope will assist the teacher in displaying scientific samples to the whole class and in small groups. The flex cam can display, record, and capture details of the specimen in color to use during the class period and in follow-up lessons by projecting the enhanced images through a LCD projector. Additionally, this tool will engage students and promote conceptual understanding.

FCPS 24-7 Learning $2.2 million

Maintenance of the current Oracle FCPS 24-7 Learning infrastructure supported by a fully redundant

staging/disaster recovery environment and continued support for access to and availability of current customized tools and applications within or via the FCPS 24-7 Learning environment.

Level 1-2-3 Network and Systems Support $1.2 million

To provide services for academic application transport in a supportable, maintainable and flexible infrastructure. Planned key network activities in 2014 include: implementation of data, voice and video infrastructure; continued support for network infrastructure hardware upgrades, including core network equipment; centralized

management of Exchange and Active Directory; design/installation management for wireless networks at all locations; Network Operations Center upgrades to include installation of fiber infrastructure to increase

bandwidth; centralized data storage and virtualization; develop plans and procedures to ensure data integrity for systems and to perform periodic system audits to be in compliance with federally mandated HIPAA.

Microsoft School Agreement - Software Licensing $2.6 million

The Microsoft School Agreement is an enterprise licensing agreement for various Microsoft titles. Funding is based on the full-time equivalent (FTE) staffing requirements and the student enrollment. The actual software titles that are included in the subscription are subject to change based on availability and FCPS requirements. The titles that have typically been included are the Microsoft Office Suite, Windows Operating System, Enterprise/CoreCAL (Client Access Licenses), Publisher, and MDOP. The Student Option and Work-At-Home programs are included.

SEA-STARS - Online Individualized Education Program (IEP) $0.2 million

This initiative currently provides all special education and general education teachers with access to students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) using management software referred as the Special Education

Administrative System for Targeting and Reporting Success (SEA-STARS) for Special Education Teachers and as General Education Teacher access to Individualized Education Programs (GET-IEP) for general education access. All teachers now have access to IEPs for the special education students they teach. SEA-STARS is customized to meet

general education curriculum, electronic tracking of eligibility and the IEP due dates, electronic tracking of IEP goals and objectives to support instruction, electronic preparation of eligibilities and IEPs, tracking of student performance, printing progress reports for parents, creating the capability of viewing student profiles so instructional teams can collaboratively develop IEPs, and share educational programs and achievement. This initiative continues the migration of the legacy database to a system designed to support school-based special education student data for use in instruction and education, in making management-based decisions, and for federal and state reporting requirements. A large portion of the funding will go to the completion of the state reporting requirement, adding Multi-agency Services, and the Special Education Summer Clinic processes.
