BVSc & AH Degree Programme Internal Evaluation

1. Examination week: An exclusive examination week may be scheduled at the end of every semester and there shall not be any preparatory holiday for Internal Evaluation. The days in which examinations are conducted shall not be counted as working days. The theory examination will be conducted during morning hours and the practical examination during the last practical class of the semester.

2. Maximum marks: The maximum marks for theory shall be 100. 3. Examination schedule: The Deans of the colleges in consultation with

each other draw the examination schedule and notify the same for the conduct of Internal Evaluation.

4. Duration of Internal Evaluation: The duration of the theory and practical examination shall be for three hours each separately. 5. Pattern of Internal Evaluation question paper:

(a) Internal theory examination

In a question paper, 60% of marks shall be for objective type (Part A) and 40% shall be for subjective type (Part B). Each objective type question shall carry only 0.5 marks.

(b) Internal practical examination

a.Record - 10 marks b.Practical - 30 marks c.Viva-voce - 10 marks

The practical mark obtained for 50 shall be converted to 100.

6. Attendance: The attendance eligibility applies only for Annual Board Examination and not for Internal Evaluation. The attendance particulars should be sent to the Head of Education cell / Co-ordinator of the academic year as the case may be within 3 working days after completion of each semester in the prescribed format. Mandatory 80% attendance eligibility should be checked for theory and practical separately on the basis of cumulative attendance of all courses grouped under a paper.

Annual Board Examination (ABE)

1. General: The ABE shall be conducted at the end of each academic year except in the fifth year, where the Board examination will be conducted at the end of ninth semester.

2. Examination week: The practical examination shall be conducted after completion of theory examination. The practical examination shall be conducted during morning hours and the viva-voce shall be conducted immediately after the completion of practical examination by batch rotation. The University may be intimated and permission obtained if any change in the schedule is required due to radical administrative reasons.

3. Maximum marks: The maximum marks for theory and practical shall be 60 and 40 respectively.

4. Duration of ABE: The duration of the theory examination shall be 3 hours and practical shall be 3 hours.

5. Pattern of ABE question paper: The pattern of question paper for ABE theory shall be as follows:

(1) The question paper for ABE shall have two parts viz. Part A and Part B.

a) Part A shall have objective type questions and each question will carry 0.5 mark.

b) Part B shall have subjective type questions.

(2) The following shall be the distribution of marks for Annual Board practical examination:

For (2+1)

a. Record - 5 marks b. Assignment - 5marks c. Practical - 20 mark d. Viva-voce - 10 mark

The practical mark obtained for 40 shall be doubled and converted to 20.

6. Eligibility to write ABE:

(1) The student should have 80 per cent attendance on the basis of cumulative attendance of all courses grouped under a paper for theory and practical separately.

(2) He / she should have written Internal Examination both theory and practical.

7. Absenting from ABE: If any student absents himself/herself from ABE, it shall be treated as failure in the academic year. However, if a student absents himself/herself from only two papers and whereas he / she clears remaining papers in an academic year, he / she may be permitted for compartmental examination. The reasons for absence should be genuine like health problem associated with hospitalization and authenticated by doctor certificate, death of an imminent person in the family etc. The Deans of the college concerned shall decide the genuineness of the reason for absence and can prevent a student from appearing for compartmental examination if the absence is due to reasons which are not genuine.

8. Conduct of ABE:

a) No student shall be allowed to leave the examination hall during the first 30 minutes after the commencement of examinations and no late comer shall be permitted after 30 minutes.

b) No student shall be permitted to write the ABE without valid hall ticket issued by the University / College.

c) No student shall be permitted to take communication devices such as pagers, mobile phones, etc.inside the examination hall.Calculators shall be permitted only when there is a need. Students should bring their own pens and pencils.

d) No person other than those involved with examination should be allowed to enter inside the examination hall for whatsoever be the reason without the permission of the Hall Superintendent.

9. Unfair means during examinations: The phrase, “Use of unfair means” includes possession of any information or material by the student, talking to other students, copying from other students or from printed or written material etc. The Invigilator, on finding the use of unfair

Academic Rules and Regulations – Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree Programmes & Academic Calendar 2015-16 means by any student may take the answer scripts of the student and the material evidence, if any, and the explanation from the student. The student may also be sent out of the examination hall immediately. The penalty shall be as indicated below:

i A student found using unfair means during the internal and annual examinations shall be deemed to have failed in all the courses he/ she has registered in that academic year.

ii The parent or the guardian of the concerned student shall be informed of any punishment awarded to the student and the reason there of.

10. Compartment Examination: A student failing in a maximum of two papers only may be allowed once to appear in compartmental examinations for those papers. Compartmental examinations shall comprise of the external component of both theory and practical of the failed papers, which shall constitute the 100% weightage and the marks of internal examination shall not be considered for the evaluation of compartmental examination.

11. Scrutiny of Grades, Answer books and Rectification of errors: The student may apply to the Controller of Examination within three working days after the announcement of the grades for scrutiny of the totalling of marks in the annual examination (for both theory and practical) or calculation of grade points obtained by his/her advancing sufficient reasons for such a request. The fee for such scrutiny shall be as decided by the University from time to time. Scrutiny means re- totaling of marks and examination of unmarked questions if any.

12. Academic Status and Scholastic Deficiencies:

(1) Promotion or failure of a student in a year shall be decided on the basis of aggregate marks of internal and annual board examinations.

(2) A student shall be promoted to next higher professional class only if he/she has passed in all the papers of his/her class by obtaining atleast 50% marks in theory and practical separately (internal and annual examinations combined).

(3) (3) A student should secure overall grade point average of 5.000 out of 10.000 besides clearing successfully the internship, non-credit and audit courses/programmes at the end of degree programme to be eligible to get B.V.Sc & A.H degree.

(4) Conditionally Allowed Promotion: A student may also be allowed provisional promotion to next higher class till the declaration of the result of the compartmental examination(s). However, this promotion shall be subject to clearance in the compartmental examination(s) of that/those paper(s) and shall be provisional. If the student fails in the compartment examination(s), he/she shall stand automatically reverted to the class from where he/she was allowed promotion. (5) A student failing in the annual examination for three consecutive years

in a professional year of B.V.Sc & A.H. degree programme, shall be finally dropped automatically from the University on account of poor academic performance.

(6) In no case, a student shall be allowed to continue his/her B.V.Sc & A.H studies beyond 8 academic years (16 semesters) in a veterinary college.

13. Requirements for bachelors degree:

(1) (1) A student-undergoing course of study leading to the award of B.V.Sc &A.H. shall pass the course and complete the minimum number of credit hours prescribed by obtaining a minimum OGPA of 5.000 in the 10.000 point scale.

(2) Classification of successful candidates: The successful candidates after completion of the graduation requirements who secured an OGPA of 5.000 or more in the 10.000 point scale shall be classified as under;
