You must complete the required steps to configure a client resource using the Client Backup Configuration wizard. Click the question mark icon at the bottom left of each page of the Client Backup Configuration wizard for details about each field in the page.
Procedure
1. In the Administration window, click Protection.
2. In the expanded left pane, right-click Clients and select New Client Wizard 3. In the Specify the Client Name page that appears:
l Client Name - Type the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the NetWorker client computer.
l Comment - Type a description for the client resource.
l Tag - Type one or more tags to identify this client resource for the creation of dynamic client groups for data protection policies. Dynamic client groups
Scheduled Backups
automatically generate a list of clients for a data protection policy based on the tags assigned to the client and group.
l Group - Select the appropriate group that has been previously created for the required backup type.
l Select the Traditional NetWorker client option.
4. Click Next.
5. In the Select the Backup Application Type page that appears:
l Client Operating System - The client operating system being used in the configuration setup is automatically displayed.
l NetWorker Client Version - The NetWorker version being used in the configuration setup is automatically displayed.
l From the Available Application list - Select SQL Server.
l Enable NetWorker Snapshot Management on the selected application - Do not select this option.
6. Click Next.
7. In the Specify the NetWorker Client Properties page that appears:
l Priority - Select the priority level.
l Parallelism - Select the level of parallelism.
l Remote Access - Type the required attributes.
You can control client recover access with the attributes in the Remote Access field during in the Client resource configuration. The Remote Access attribute displays a list of the users that can recover save sets for a client. Add or remove user names depending on the level of security the files require.
l Data Domain Interface - Select the device type from the list.
l Block Based Backup - Leave this option clear. This feature is not supported for SQL Server VDI.
l Client Direct - Selected by default, this feature enables the client to send backup data directly to the storage device, bypassing the storage node.
l Parallel Save Streams - Select this option to enable multiple save streams for each save set during backup.
Note
To use the default NetWorker Client settings, do not update the options provided on the page.
8. Click Next.
9. In the Select the Backup Objects page that appears, all the SQL instances and their components are listed. Select the SQL Server instance at root level or individual databases for backup.
Note
Ensure not to select databases from two separate instances for backup. All databases that are selected must be from the same instance. Also, databases that are in offline, restoring, or loading state are unavailable for selection.

13.In the Specify the Backup Options page that appears, select the following options:
l NetWorker compression or bit AES software encryption - select if using 256-bit AES software encryption.
l SQL Server compression - Select if using For SQL Server 2008 or later.
l Perform checksum before writing to media - Select for SQL server 2005, and then if required, the Continue to backup even on checksum error option.
l Do not truncate log contents when backing up transaction logs - Select when backing up transaction logs for a SQL server 2005.
l Skip simple databases during incremental backup - Select when performing instance level backup. If this option is not selected when performing database level backup, the database is not skipped and the simple recovery model database is promoted to full backup.
The simple database is skipped when the NSR_SKIP_SIMPLE_DB environmental variable is set to TRUE in client Application Information. Otherwise, the logs only backup request is promoted to full.
l Turn off log gap detection during incremental backup - Select to set the NSR_SKIP_LOGGAP_DETECTION variable to "TRUE" so the log-gap detection functionality is not performed during the logs only backup. This improves the

backup performance because the extra overload of detecting the log gap is overridden.
l Skip database that are in an incompatible state - Select to skip databases that are not compatible for backup.
l DBCC Consistency Check Option:
n Select all databases - Select to run consistency checks for all the databases. If the DBCC check fails, then the database backup is skipped and backup status of the group appears as failed. This ensures that all backed up database is suitable for recoveries. This option is available with SQL Server 2005 or later instances.
n Databases - To specify certain databases for the DBCC check, type the database names in the field.
l Striping Option - Select Enabling stripping option to enable striping during backup, and then choose the number of stripes in Specify the number of stripes menu.
