Evidence presented in this section will demonstrate that Antioch University presents itself clearly and completely to its students and the public. Our websites and collateral material offer an accurate presentation of programs, requirements, costs, faculty and staff, control, and accreditation information.

As part of the Self-Study process, an initial 2010 CCAO review identified some information missing from websites and catalogs. Similarly, the Criterion Two Team reviewed all websites and 2011-12 catalogs and identified material still needed. Following further work, all material was identified and included on websites as evidenced in Table 4.1.

Each campus must complete the University Office of General Counsel Consumer Information Template in order to comply with Title IV regulations. “The Right To Know” (sometimes called “Consumer Right to Know” or “Student Right to Know”) has been posted on our websites. More detail is provided in the Compliance chapter.

Office of Communications was mandated to conduct a Communications Audit in Fall 2012. As part of that audit process, initiated in November 2012, a comprehensive review of the University and campus websites was conducted with an eye towards compliance with HLC’s requirements. This review showed that, in general, all requirements are being met. However, it did uncover three areas that need to be addressed, and that work is fully underway at the time of the writing of this Self-Study Report.

The three areas specifically identified from the Audit were: (1) All campus websites need to clearly state that Antioch University is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, and this was complete in January 2013; (2) Antioch takes the listing of program “requirements” to mean both admission requirements and degree completion requirements. The Audit revealed that some campus websites contain both but others focus largely on admission requirements and less so on degree completion. The Chief Communications Officer is working with the Communications URG to develop a consistent approach across all sites; and (3) Many campus collateral materials are in the process of being updated and redesigned. Some of the older materials in circulation lack necessary information. The Chief Communications Officer is working directly with campuses on redesigns going forward. As a result of the Audit, a memo from the Chancellor’s Office was distributed

to all campus Presidents and campus Communications Directors in January 2013 that detailed what is missing on each particular site, identified what needs to be added, and specified the due date for compliance. This memo also included a section on the collateral materials reiterating redesign requirements relative to the new HLC logo and language usage.

Tremendous strides have been made in providing information about faculty and staff to students and the public. Effective Spring 2013, Antioch University will list the contact information and highest credentials and licenses of all faculty – core and non- core – on our University website, and shortly thereafter, an iFrame will be created to bring that information into the portal for students and internal constituencies. Over the next six months, we plan to expand the core faculty listings to include longer profiles with more detailed information about faculty members’ engagement with student learning,

scholarship, and service.

Prior to Spring 2013, campuses provided information about their core faculty and many of the campuses also provided information about adjunct faculty. Thus, while we have always been in compliance with the requirement to communicate this information, the responsibility for that disclosure had previously been at the campus level. As part of our process of building an integrated University, we are developing a single database of faculty information, coordinated centrally, that now

provides the data for the University and campus websites and the portal. Relative to institutional control, Antioch University is a private, not-for-profit (501(c)(3) organization that operates five campuses in four states. This is communicated clearly and completely to its students on the University portal and to the public on the Antioch University website. As noted earlier, it will appear on all campus websites by the end of January 2013.

Relative to accreditation relationships, Antioch University portrays its accreditation status with the Commission clearly to the public, including the status of its branch campuses. The institution posts the electronic version of the Commission’s Mark of Affiliation in at least one place on its website, linking users directly to the institution’s status on the Commission’s website.

Antioch University is accountable to four state agencies in the states in which the institution is located.

These agencies include:

n Ohio Board of Regents

n California Bureau for Private

Postsecondary Education (exempt status)

n Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board

n New Hampshire Department of Education, Division of Higher Education Technically, the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education recognizes Antioch

as an exempt institution. The exemption letters for AU Los Angeles and AU Santa Barbara are in the Virtual Exhibition Hall Resource Room.

State approval to operate is communicated clearly and completely to its students on the University portal and to the public on the University website and campus websites.

Component 2.B. Summary Just 10 years ago, Antioch University represented itself to the public with separate campus websites and virtually no University oversight to ensure compliance and alignment. Today, Antioch University presents itself clearly and completely to students and the public as one integrated University with all required information available and easily accessible. These efforts will continue, and periodic review of websites and marketing materials will occur to ensure ongoing consistency and compliance.
