The Contact Us Tab allows you to send your comments or questions to the manufacturer and provide you with a proper response.

The About Tab shows current version of the Button Manager program.

4.14 Removing Button Manager Icon from the System Tray

To remove Button Manager icon from the system tray,

1. Left-click the Button icon ( ) in the right corner of your system tray. A menu screen will be displayed.

2. Choose “Quit”. You will close Button Manager and remove Button Manager icon from the system tray.

Note:

Button Manager can be started from the Program group by choosing

Start>Programs>Avision Button Manager V2>Avision Button Manager V2.

5. Operation

5.1 Inserting An Image Directly to a Software Application

With Button Manager V2, you can insert the scanned image directly to a software

application which is already opened. For example, when you are editing text in Microsoft Word and you wish to insert a scanned picture, you can start a scan right away and the scanned image will be inserted and displayed in your Microsoft Word.

To insert an image to a software application already opened,

1. Open your current document such as a Microsoft Word file which you wish to insert an image.

2. Move your cursor at the place which you wish to insert an image.

3. Insert document to your scanner.

4. Click the Button icon ( ) to prompt the Button panel.

5. Click button no. 1, iScan (image) ( ).

6. In a second, the scanned image will be inserted directly to your doc file.

5.2 Converting Image Text and Inserting the Text to a Software Application

With Button Manager V2, you can scan an image and convert the image text to editable text through the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) process and insert the text directly to a software application. For example, when you are editing text in Microsoft Word and you wish to insert the editable text from an image, you can start a scan right away and the converted text will be inserted and displayed in your Microsoft Word.

To convert and insert the editable text to a software application,

1. Open your current document such as a Microsoft Word file which you wish to insert an image.

2. Move your cursor at the place which you wish to insert an image.

3. Insert document to your scanner.

4. Click the Button icon ( ) to prompt the Button panel.

7. Click button no. 2, iScan (OCR) ( ).

8. In a second, the scanned image will be inserted directly to your doc file.

Note:

If the orientation of your image is incorrect or your image is skewed, the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) result might fail. Please rotate the orientation of your image or straighten your image first via the image-editing software application to ensure the accuracy and success of the OCR result.

5.3 Naming Your Files Based on the Recognized Characters

Button Manager V2 allows you to name your scanned file based on the recognized

characters through the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) process which converts your text image into editable text. This feature is useful when you wish to recognize and index the characters or numbers after a specific word such as purchase order, or barcode.

To name your file based on the recognized characters,

1. From the Button Panel, choose number of button you wish to perform this function. For example, button # 3 which links your scanned image to Microsoft Paint.

2. Click the “Browse” button to choose your favorite folder to save the images.

3. From the Button Properties dialog box, click the “More” button to select file name as

“%OCR-Text Recognized”.

4. Choose your OCR language from the “OCR Language” drop-down list box. For example, English.

5. Choose your OCR zone from the “OCR Zone” drop-down list box. For example, All.

6. Enter your keyword in the “Keyword” field. For example, Page.

7. Enter the recognized character count after the keyword. For example, 9.

8. Choose “OK” to complete your settings.

9. Insert your document to the scanner.

10. To start a scan, click button #3 from the Button Panel. Or you may scroll the selector on the scanner until the LCD-display shows #3 and then press the “Scan” button.

11. In a second, the scan is done and you will find the scanned image with the file name in recognized characters after the keyword “Page” as illustrated.

5.4 Saving Your Images in PDF or Searchable PDF File Format

Button Manager V2 allows you to save your scanned images in PDF or searchable PDF file format. With the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) engine which supports over a hundred of languages, your electronic documents can be searched and managed more effectively.

To save your images in searchable PDF file format,

1. From the Button Panel, right-click the button you wish to save your file in searchable PDF file format. For example, Button No. 3. The Button Properties dialog box will be displayed.

2. From the File Format option, choose your file format to be Nuance PDF or Adobe PDF depending on your version.

3. Check the PDF properties clicking the “Properties” button. The PDF Properties dialog box will be displayed.

4. Increase your compression level by moving the compression slider to the right or decrease your compression level by moving the slider to the left. Note: The higher compression level, the lower image quality.

5. If you wish to convert your file to searchable PDF, check “Enable” from the “OCR Language” option and choose your OCR language.

6. If you wish to add security to your file, check “Enable” from the “Password” option and type your password.

7. If you wish to save your file as a PDF/A file, check the “PDF/A” option.

8. Click the “OK” button to save your settings and leave the “PDF Properties” dialog box.

5.5 “Drag and Drop” Your File to a Specified Button

Button Manager V2 is designed with a convenient feature to let you drag and drop your file to a specified button destination. This means, when you drag and drop an image file to Button No. 9 Google Docs, the image can be uploaded to Google Docs in a second.

To drag and drop your file to a specified button, 1. Browse your file on the Windows Explorer.

2. Click Button Manager icon ( ) at the right corner of your system tray to prompt the following Button Panel.

3. Drag and drop your file to your desired button name. For example, Button No. 9, Google Docs. If successful, a white arrow and a plus sign will be displayed in the button.

4. In a second, the file will be uploaded to Google Docs. You may login your Google Docs to check if the file has been successfully uploaded.

Note:

1. To use the drag and drop function, you need to keep your network scanner connecting to your computer either through the USB cable or through the network cable.

2. If you drag and drop an image to button no. 2 iScan (OCR), the text in the image will be converted to editable text.

3. You may also refer to the preceding section 4.13.3 The Advanced Tab to use the Hotkey to send your image to a specified destination.

5.6 Sending Error Report

When a fatal error occurs and the Button Manager ceases to function, an “Error Report”

dialog box appears. You can send the debug information to the developer of the application by clicking the “Send Error Report” button or leave the dialog box by clicking the “Don’t Send” button. The error report helps the developer to improve the software application.
