The following procedure allows you to select and set the default method to use when entering text. 1. From home, tap Apps > Settings > GENERAL tab > Language and input.
2. Tap Default to select the default input method.
Note: You can change the input method while you are entering text. Drag the Status Bar down to
display the Notification panel, and then tap Select keyboard.
Samsung Keyboard Settings
The Samsung Keyboard is an onscreen QWERTY keyboard, so you can enter text by “typing” on the keyboard. Samsung keyboard is enabled by default, and you can choose options for using it. 1. From home, tap Apps > Settings > GENERAL tab > Language and input. 2. Tap Samsung keyboard to configure these options:
l Select input languages: Choose languages for use with Samsung keyboard. When you have more than one language enabled, you can slide your finger on the space bar while entering text to switch languages.
l Predictive text: Tap the ON/OFF switch to turn predictive text on. Predictive text suggests words matching your text entries, and optionally, completes common words automatically. Tap Predictive text to configure options:
o Live word update: Automatically update Samsung keyboard with popular new words
every day.
o Personalized data: Use personal language data you have entered to make better
Settings 99 o Learn from Facebook: Log into Facebook to allow your tablet to learn your Facebook
style.
o Learn from Gmail: Log into Gmail to allow your tablet to learn from your Gmail email.
o Learn from Twitter: Log into Twitter to allow your tablet to learn from your Twitter
postings.
o Learn from Contacts: Allow your tablet to learn from your Contacts entries.
o Clear server data: Remove all anonymous data stored on the personalization server.
o Clear personal data: Remove all personalized data you have entered.
o Privacy Policy: View information about privacy policies for personalization. l Auto replace: Complete or replace the word you are typing with the most probable word when you tap the Space bar or a punctuation mark. l Auto capitalize: Automatically capitalize words in your text based on common usage, such as at the beginning of sentences. l Auto spacing: Automatically insert spaces between words. l Auto punctuate: Automatically enter a period and space to end a sentence when you tap the space bar twice. l Keyboard swipe: Configure options for entering text by swiping your finger over the letters, instead of tapping each letter individually. o None: Do not recognize swipes on the keyboard as text. o SwiftKey Flow: Enter text by sliding your finger across the keys on the keyboard. o Cursor control: Slide your finger across the keyboard to move the cursor to begin entering text. l Key-tap feedback: Choose options for the keyboard to indicate your entries. o Sound: Play a sound for your key taps. o Vibration: Set the device to vibrate when you tap keys. o Character preview: Display a big character bubble as you tap each key. l More settings o Reset settings: Return settings to the defaults.
Swype Settings
Swype is a new way to enter text on touchscreens. Instead of tapping each key individually, use your finger to trace over the letters of a word. For each word, place your finger on the first letter and glide to the subsequent letters, lifting on the last letter.Settings 100 1. From home, tap Apps > Settings > GENERAL tab > Language and input.
2. Tap Swype to configure these options: l Settings: Set Swype options: o Vibrate on keypress: The device vibrates for your Swype touches. o Sound on keypress: The device plays sounds for your Swype touches. o Pop-up on keypress: The characters display briefly as you tap keys. o Long-press delay: Choose a period for the keyboard to wait before interpreting a touch as a press and hold.
o Show complete trace: Swype displays the trace of each word until you start the next
word.
o Auto-Capitalization: Swype automatically capitalizes the first word of sentences.
o Auto-spacing: Swype automatically inserts spaces between words as you complete
them.
o Next Word Prediction: Swype predicts the next word based on the previous word.
o Show Voice Key: A Voice input key displays on the Swype keyboard.
o Recognition speed: Set handwriting recognition speed.
l Themes: Configure options for the look and position of the keyboard.
o Keyboard height: Choose how tall the keyboard is, when the tablet is in Portrait
(upright) and Landscape (on its side) position.
o Word choice list font size: Set the size of the text for the words Swype suggests as
you enter text.
o Bold font on keys: Use bold font for the key labels.
l My Words: Choose options for customizing Swype based on your text entries. o Backup & Sync: Use Swype Connect to back up your words.
o Import recent contacts: Add recent contact names for use with Swype.
o Living Language: When enabled, Swype will automatically update with popular new
words.
o Personalization: Log into your favorite social networking sites to use your entries there
to update Swype.
o Edit my dictionary: Modify words added to Swype.
Settings 101 o Contribute usage data: Allow Nuance to collect usage data to provide better text
