Department News, Projects, & Virtual Programs
Duane continued to provide recorded stories for the virtual Imagination Station programs hosted by the Warsaw Parks Department. I went to the central office for WCS to record a few stories for United Way. They are trying to create a “library” of reading videos to use throughout the year. It tied in great with my involvement in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library which is now provided through United Way. I contacted county libraries and they were all eager to provide the information to their patrons. Duane and Amy also participated in the United Way Reading Program through Zoom. They were each assigned a kindergarten summer school class and read a story chosen by the teachers. Amy experienced great interaction, but Duane’s class was unresponsive. We do not have information on the amount of teaching that is done before hand or the setup of the class video. It was a good trial run of Zoom story time and we will explore its use for our outreaches that will not be physical visits this year. Library staff from other departments have recorded read-a-louds for our Bedtime Stories program with an emphasis on sharks to post during Shark Week. Duane also recorded a promo spot for Anna’s teen craft program debuting the character Dr. Bookenstein. He is also working on “kidumentaries” for Facebook and we hope to combine them with other programs/outlets for the library’s virtual programs.
Duane and I met with Joni, Michelle, and Anna to discuss creating guidelines for social media. We wanted to organize posts so we are not overshadowing each other or oversaturating our online presence. The webinar I watched on social media this month was very interesting and I hope to incorporate a few of the recommendations into our operations.
