In order to advise students more effectively and to assist students with special needs or problems, faculty members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the wide range of student services available. Life Services and Wellness (LSW)
Life Services and Wellness serves the physical, emotional needs, and special academic needs of Texas A&M University-Kingsville students. Special emphasis is placed on preventive services and lifestyle management encouraging students to lead healthier and emotionally fulfilling lives. Life Services and Wellness consists of 5 programs.
Health Care Clinic: The Student Health Care Clinic provides care for minor medical situations and related problems to students enrolled at Texas A&M-Kingsville while classes are in session.
Wellness Program: The general goals of the Wellness Program at Texas A&M-Kingsville are to assess present health status and practices, to educate and counsel, and to
provide opportunities for individuals to participate and experience positive lifestyle practices. Personal development workshops are also offered through the "Don't Cancel
Class" program.
Personal and Career Counseling: Challenge, frustration, growth, and change are all a part of the college experience. Professional staff trained to counsel in personal, educational, and life-decision concerns are readily available to Texas A&M-Kingsville students. The Career Services Center, described separately, provides services in the area of career development.
Testing and Educational Development: The Texas A&M-Kingsville Testing Office provides comprehensive testing services for students and prospective students. The office administers the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) Test, national placement, aptitude, admissions, and equivalency tests. GED testing is also administered through this office to the community.
Disability Student Services (DSS): DSS coordinates support activities and equipment for Texas A&M-Kingsville students with temporary or permanent disabilities.
Advisement Office - University College
The Advisement Office located in Eckhardt Hall advises University students in course selection and achieving success in the University.
Mathematics Lab - University College
The Mathematics Lab offers assistance (tutoring) in math and algebra.
The Learning Assistance Center - University College
The Learning Assistance Center (LAC) is an academic student support service program that is designed to improve academic skills for Texas A&M University-Kingsville
students. The Learning Assistance Center is located on the second floor of the Jernigan Library in room 217 and provides peer tutoring assistance in mathematics, ranging from developmental math to college algebra, analytic geometry, calculus, trigonometry,
statistics, and math for business and economics. Tutoring is also available in chemistry, physics, English, history, plus offering assistance with writing assignments.
Financial Aid Office
Located on the first floor of the Memorial Student Union Building, the Financial Aid Office helps students obtain financial assistance through a variety of federal, state, and private sources. Students may apply for scholarships, grants, loans, and part-time employment.
Career Services
The Career Services Center, located in Eckhardt Hall, exists to provide assistance to students and alumni in planning careers and securing employment. The Center is designed to provide a diverse student population with a variety of information and assistance to achieve their professional goals. Students seeking part-time
off-campus employment, cooperative education work experiences, summer internships, or full-time graduate employment should register with Career Services via
www.tamuk.edu/csc. Career/job fairs, on-campus interviewing, employment skills workshops and career counseling are scheduled through this office.
Communication Disorders Clinic
The Communication Disorders Clinic, located in Manning Hall, is an evaluation and treatment center available for anyone in the community who has speech, language, or hearing problems.
Office of the Memorial Student Union and Activities
This office provides ongoing leadership training programs for student officers and potential campus leaders; advises the Student Government Association; gives students experience in cooperative decision making; coordinates Family Day, Orientation,
Homecoming, and other special University programs; supervises the campus Greek system; and coordinates all recognized student organizations. The office is located on the third floor of the Memorial Student Union Building.
Orientation Programs
Every summer, several pre-entry orientation programs (Hoggie Days) are offered to incoming students to acquaint them and their parents with the programs and services available at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. During the two-day programs, the participants tour the campus, meet their prospective deans and other University
personnel, obtain academic counseling, and register for courses. Also, at the beginning of each semester, new student orientation programs (Javelina Welcome) are conducted for incoming freshmen and transfer students to help them become acquainted with each other, build traditions, familiarize them with the University and its policies, and provide
them with information that will enhance their academic and social opportunities. The Office of the Memorial Student Union and Activities is responsible for these programs.
Student Housing
Students have a wide variety of living quarters from which to select, ranging from traditional residence halls with community baths, rooms built on a suite plan, co-ed facilities, and University-owned apartments for students with families. Each residence hall has its own lobby/tv area, study area, and a small kitchenette for student use. Cable television service, two ethernet ports per room for internet access, and telephone service are provided in all student rooms. Students also have access to a computer lab in each hall. In addition, each hall offers different recreational facilities unique to its building design which may include outdoor sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, sundecks, exercise work-out rooms, and pool tables. Each hall is supervised by a full-time hall director and students employed as resident advisors, desk clerks, and night clerks.
Veterans' Information
Students who are veterans of the military services may obtain information on VA benefits from the Registrar's Office, located in College Hall.
Campus Activities Board
The Campus Activities Board is the primary student programming organization at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The board serves the TAMUK community by bringing the best entertainment to campus. Activities range from concerts, films, variety acts, and performing arts. Students may join the board. For more information, contact the Director of the Memorial Student Union and Activities.
Student Newspaper
“The South Texan,” distributed weekly during long semesters, covers campus and
college community news of interest to students and faculty. Volunteers from the student body contribute news, features, and letters to the editor. Many official announcements and articles of interest appear in “The South Texan.”
Radio and Television Laboratories
KTAI-FM 91.1 and TAMUK TV-2, located in Manning Hall, are operated under the auspices of the Radio and Television unit of the Communications and Theater Arts Department. Radio/televison majors and others are trained in audio and video
production and editing. Students earn credit while operating KTAI as on-air disk jockeys and participating in live remote productions as well. Among its many promotions, KTAI offers an annual free concert to TAMUK students, “Mesquite Groove,” held on campus at the Mesquite Grove. TAMUK TV-2 offers opportunities for students to design, write, produce, direct, and air local news, talk, information and educational television shows.

Recreational Sports Programs
The recreational sports program supplements and contributes to students' general education by offering a wide range of opportunities achieved through participation in sports and athletic contests. It strives to produce a well-balanced individual through development of physical skill, health, mental alertness, and moral and social well-being.
The recreational sports program offers a variety of activities for men and women
including team, individual, and dual sports. The annual program is scheduled so one or more intramural activities are in progress during each month of the academic year. For more information and a schedule of activities, contact the Associate Director of

Religious Activities
Religious activities are designed to complement intellectual growth with spiritual growth.
