I created a presentation detailing our school's Academic Performance for the 2013 school year and provided significant data from the past 2 years from our two neighboring high schools and compared and contrasted our API. In addition, I selected a segment of the student population who according to the state's data is under served in our school.

This experience allowed me to self-reflect on what could go wrong during a presentation when discussing data pertaining to one segment of our student population. In my case some teachers felt targeted and became upset with the state data. I also learned that I must be well informed on the material I am presenting to earn the trust of my staff, and be able to answer questions. The purpose of the presentation was to analyze and interpret our school’s data and open up a discussion on how we could better serve our African American students. I felt that by providing our staff with numbers and comparing ourselves to our neighboring schools with very similar student populations we could learn from what they are doing to meet the needs of their African American students. We had a staggering 50-point drop in our API, and I felt strongly if I provided data that all staff would buy into working together to address our African American students' educational needs.
What I received was some frustration from teachers and I was bombarded with questions. I stayed calm and attempted to answer questions, often referring back to my presentations and the data. I felt that I couldn't answer everyone's questions, and to be quiet honest, very
overwhelmed. My intentions were not to blame anyone, rather to open up a discussion on how we could address the specific needs of this underserved and under-represented population. Next time I will ask staff to write down three reasons why they believe African American students' test scores dropped and provide suggestions on how we can better meet their needs.
