9. POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS
10.3 Future Research Work
The present work only covers a part of the research required to uncover quality latent construct of satisfaction among interurban travellers profiles, since the approach is descriptive / exploratory. Additional work is definitely necessary and a number of recommendations for further research emerges from the dissertation:
To replicate this methodological approach in other contexts (other interurban interchanges), in order to identify similarities and differences, and generalise these findings.
To integrate into the data set, other variables that can be collected at interchanges (for example, through information gathered by terminal managers, transport operators, etc).
To link travellers’ perspective (assessment of customer satisfaction) to objective performance (assessment of performance measures), through a methodology that takes into account the results of this work and integrates both sides of the quality loop.
To focus on the quality loop, linking perceived quality with delivered and expected quality, exploring cause-effect patterns.
To extend the methodology of this work and to link it with predictive models to study the impact of interconnectivity measures in the perception of travellers’ satisfaction, and build different scenarios.
To extend the methodology of this work and to link it with mode choice models at interchange, with the aim of identifying variables that influence modes choices, for both short and long distance trips.
To explore the possibility to perform cluster analysis before multiple correspondence analysis, inverting the order of the first and second step of the methodology.
