7. CONCLUSION

7.3 Future Work

As discussed previously, this thesis is a starting point for an organization that wants to implement lean through VSM. Where VSM was conducted manually, which had few limitations. For future work, simulation can be used for the purpose of having accurate readings and output. The focus of this study was only VSM, but for further study, other lean tools can also be used which could help an organization to initiate lean. This study majorly focused on the importance of hard lean practices and fails to highlight the soft practices which are very important for introducing lean in an organization. For future work soft practices can also be considered.

Since the study was based on a single case study, it resulted in issues with external validation.

Conducting similar studies in other enterprises or having multiple case studies will help better external validation and acceptance of the results.

This research can be the base for other similar studies in the field of implementation of VSM and lean in an organization, that lacks knowledge on lean. Very few pieces of literature are available on this topic, so more research is needed in this field which encourages small organizations to implement lean and VSM in their production line. It will be interesting to know if any new research on this subject is made which has similar or different findings from this study.
