Abstract - Height and weight are important indicators of human health. Most people likely know their height up to a certain point. But even being half an inch to an inch shorter could be a very important indicator to people’s health. For children, it is important to monitor that they are growing at a healthy rate, and for the elderly it is important to monitor whether or not their height decreases. This could be an indicator of osteoporosis. In addition, with known height and weight, person’s Body Mass Index (BMI) can easily be calculated. Doctors commonly use BMI as important indicators for diabetes and heart disease. These measurements, especially when directly linked to health, need to be as accurate as possible, and in a way that isn’t time consuming. Currently, methods to measure height and weight are archaic, take too much time, and usually require more than one person. Most commonly used devices are the tape measure or a stadiometer. The stadiometer is a device mounted on the wall with measurements written on its frame and includes a plank that comes down and rests on the person’s head to help determine the height. Ultrasonic sensors provide a portable and easy-to-use solution to height measuring. In a similar way to echolocation in bats, they send off ultrasonic wave from the top of a person’s head and measure the returned echo wave reflected off the floor. Having two ultrasonic sensors allows for two separate measurements, and by averaging both, a more accurate reading is achieved. At the same time, it allows for compensation for non-level orientations. When designing the prototype, the team kept in mind how efficient the device is, how economical the materials are, how easy it is to assemble and manufacture, and finally how consumer friendly it is. The team has done extensive research on the market for any similar products, and has found quite a lucrative spot for such a device. Though there are a few products such as the stadiometer and digital BMI scanner that are similar in theory, they are very different in design. In addition, the team will build a prototype that is pleasing to use for the consumer, but retains accuracy.

Soh Ann Ni, Associate Professor Dr. Puah Chin Hong & Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Affendy Arip Universiti Malaysia Sarawak

Abstract - In line with the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2025 vision, targeting to nurture a competitive, sustainable and inclusive tourism destination is a critical agenda. Competitiveness without sustainable is a hurdle to promote ASEAN as global green destination. Furthermore, in the era of environmental consciousness, tourism destination that wants to remain competitive acquires a strategy for sustainability. Both the destination countries and organization are necessary to remain competitive while embracing tourism as a means of accomplishing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to reduce poverty, ensuring good health, access to equitable quality education, promote gender equality and provide decent employment for the community in ensuring the sustainable economic growth. Thus, it is crucial to identify the factors that influencing the performance level of tourism as a means of accomplishing sustainable development goals. The available research of the similar interest is more on conceptual based, while a rather sophisticated computational tool is under explored in this area, and attention on Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is especially scarce. The present study proposes to construct a tourism sustainable competitiveness performance indicator with the adoption of a machine learning technique called the random forest. Apart from quantify the index score across enablers, dimensions and features in measuring the tourism performance, the weighted score could be obtained that allowed proper risk monitoring across different perspectives. Intra-country analysis is expected to provide useful insights for individual member countries by identifying its level of performance across enablers with the respective index scores. Meanwhile, the inter-country analysis is also feasible to enhance economic convergence and reduce development gap within the ASEAN region. This study also targeting to offer significant assistance to the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2025 vision and the recovery of ASEAN member countries from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia

Abstract - Scheduling of operation theatre is essential to hospitals in order to improve their performance and meet the level of patients’ satisfactions. A poor schedule of operation theatre not only will affect the reputation and revenue of hospitals but also wasting the hospital resources. Since the operation theatre is one of the largest revenue center of hospitals but also required high costs, therefore the schedule of operation theatre should be effective and maximize the usage of operation theatre. The objectives of this study is to construct a schedule of operation theatre by using Integer Linear Programming method, maximize the usage of operation theatres based on the available usage time and compare the existing schedule with the constructed schedule in order to validate the effectiveness of the proposed model. This study is focused on constructing one-month schedule of operation theatre at strategic level since strategic level is a long term case-mix planning for operation theatre and it is also the first level in operation theatre scheduling where its output will be the input of the second level which is tactical level. The data are obtained from a hospital which located in Muar, Johor and all the coding of the proposed model is programmed into AMPL software. The one-month constructed schedule is solved in weekly basis because the demand of operating hours of each department is updated on each week by adding the unfulfilled demand in previous week to the original demand of the same department in current week. In this study, the one-month constructed schedule has allocated a total of 54 operation theatres. When compared to the existing schedule, the constructed schedule has achieved about 96.52% of the overall allocated operating hours in the existing schedule. However, the increment in the percentage of overall allocated operating hours in the sensitivity analysis is about 1.84%. The effectiveness of the proposed model is validated.

The Impact of Sea Surface Temperature Rise Towards Sea Turtle Hatchling in Terengganu Coastal Seas

Siti Fatinorain binti Mohd Sam & Dr. Nurul Hazrina binti Idris Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Abstract - This study is aimed to examine whether the rising of sea surface temperature gives an impact on the sea turtle hatchling by using Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (EMT+) around the Terengganu coastal seas. With the technology of remote sensing like satellite imagery, it allows monitoring any changes of climate that happened regionally and globally. It is found that the alteration of climate will give an impact on the environment and marine ecosystem such as sea turtles. For the Terengganu coast region, it is shown that water characteristic like temperature is influenced by the monsoon (Fadzil & Yong, 2011) where it experienced two monsoon which is northeast monsoon (summer) and the southwest monsoon (winter) where due to that, it can cause the extreme weather like flood and drought. Also, climate change could increase morbidity and mortality as well as decreasing plant productivity. As for the marine ecosystem, the rising temperature of the sea could determine the gender of the turtles where it has been estimated that the increase of 2°C will leads to 99.86% of female hatching rate (Butt et al., 2016). Therefore, in this study there are three different data are used which is thermal infrared acquired by Landsat 7 ETM+ within 10 years of the period from the year 2010 to 2020, the in-situ measurement, and sea turtle hatchling and nesting data with the same 10 years period. The study consists of three objectives which the first objective is to derive and estimate the sea surface temperature from thermal satellite data over 10 years of period. Next, the second objective would be to validate the monthly sea surface temperature using in-situ data and the third objective is to estimate the impact of sea surface temperature changes on the sea turtle hatchling. The final output obtain is the correlation coefficient graph of the rising sea surface temperature which later will be compared with the sea turtle hatchling and nesting data in analyzing the correlation pattern for both data.

MagSorb for Efficient Wastewater Treatment during COVID-19 Pandemic

Abu Hassan Nordin & Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Norzita Ngadi Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Abstract - The ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has been a public health emergency of international concern. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the best way to prevent and slow down the transmission of COVID-19 is by washing hands frequently and keep good hygiene.

Therefore, there is increased concern to treat the generated wastewater to ensure minimal public exposure to untreated wastewater, and everyone can receive sufficient clean water supply. Recently, Malaysia has faced the major water crisis, caused by generated wastewater from the factories discharged into the river. Consequently, the contaminated river led to water disruption, and few places were experiencing water shortage for weeks. This problem brings into light the inefficacy of conventional water and wastewater treatment methods. Activated carbon (AC) has been prevalently used in wastewater treatment. Nonetheless, the large-scale utilization of commercial activated carbon (CAC) is normally restricted by its production cost and time-consuming synthesis procedures (carbonization, activation, washing etc.). Additionally, tedious separation steps by traditional techniques (such as filtration and high-speed centrifugation) are necessary for the separation of exhausted CAC after the treatment, or, the unrecovered CAC may result in the generation of secondary waste in water and environment. To cope with the mentioned problems, this study aims to synthesize a new adsorbent from the incorporation of cellulose with polyethyleneimine (PEI) and magnetic nanoparticle (MNP), termed as MagSorb, via a rapid and straightforward method. MagSorb is a versatile adsorbent with high adsorption capacity (330mg/g) and good magnetic properties. The results revealed that the turbidity, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and iron metal contents in actual pulp mill wastewater from industry were successfully treated using the MagSorb. The MagSorb also showed excellent adsorption performance on removing color from synthetic dye wastewater with 100% removal. After the treatment, the spent MagSorb can easily be separated from the solution in 10s using a magnet bar. Therefore, the excellent adsorption capacity combined with magnetic separation properties makes MagSorb a promising candidate adsorbent for replacing CAC.

Shahidah Zakariya, AP. Dr Yin Fong & Dr. Norwahyu Jusoh , Ir. Dr. Tan Lian See Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS

Abstract - The presence of CO2 has created significant challenges in natural gas production in order to meet consumer specifications and for pipeline transportation. Membrane separation has emerged as one of the promising technologies in CO2/CH4 gas separation due to its energy efficiency, simple and economical design process without major limitation. This study investigates the alternative technique applied to prepared hollow fiber membrane in order to enhance the performance the membrane in CO2 removal from CH4. A new types of composite hollow fiber membrane were fabricated by coating polymer solution containing various loadings of NH2 MIL-125 (Ti) in PEBAX onto Polysulfone hollow fiber membrane. Dip-coating technique was applied on asymmetric polysulfone (PSF) hollow fiber membrane that externally coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) solution. The structural properties of NH2 MIL-125 (Ti) was determined by using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphology and elemental mapping analysis of the resultant membranes were characterized via scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). SEM images showed that no voids or clusters observed between the two phases. SEM–EDX mapping confirmed the increase in NH2 MIL-125 (Ti) adherence with increasing loading of filler into the membrane. It is expected that the further development based on this study foresees the future potential of composite hollow fiber membrane in CO2/CH4 separation.

Muhammad Naim Bin Abdullah & Nurhafisah Binti Baidilah University Malaysia of Computer Science and Engineering

Abstract - This project was developed with the intention to help the parent to monitor their children since many of today’s parent was busy and have little supervision on their children. The android parental spying app is a monitoring app that can view and listens to children’s surrounding and tracks their GPS location. This project requires both of the child and parent application to be operated under a stable internet connection. It is an Android development project that use the access permission of the android devices to work as a spying app which are dependent on the Google API and at the same time does not require device rooting. A study on the similar monitoring apps based on the top five parental control apps on 2019 has been made to find limitations to be enhanced. The development of the app is using the client-server architecture model where the client is both the parent and the child while the server is using the Firebase server. This project also uses the media server for its live streaming capabilities. The methodologies chosen for this project is structured evolutionary prototyping with increment method and the only hardware needed for this project is the android smart-phones and a laptop for development. The development is done with Android Studio. This project only limits parent on a passive and stealth monitoring but not to apply restrictive control on their kid’s smart-phone usages.

A Ecommerce Website for Second-Hand Book Shop

Muhammad Naim bin Abdullah, Ting Kai Boon, Tang Shao Ming, Tang Min Khee & Nik Zulhazren University Malaysia of Computer Science and Engineering

Abstract - The Second Hand Bookstore web application is an E-commerce application, specifically for second hand books that can be used by anyone in Malaysia. The Second Hand Bookstore application allows its user to search for many different type of second hand books to buy as well as advertise their second hand books that they want to sell to others who are using also using the web application. The reason that this application is being developed is because there is no proper application out there that is both safe and secure for the second hand book market, as most people use social media to look for second hand books that relies on the reputability of the sellers for buyers to choose which seller to buy from, but this does not ensure buyer security for them to receive the item after payment has been made. The aim of this web application is to help people that lack the funds to buy new books to be able to buy used ones that is in good condition and also for lower prices, so that everyone can enjoy reading. This project also allows users to get more funds to collect new books by selling their used books on this website. The system is meant to be quick and simple to use as well as being efficient and reliable for both buyers and sellers. For future development, the project hopes to achieve a better user experience and be more efficient and better at what it does best. Even though we currently only have a website for this project, we wish to also expand to the mobile application market such as ios and android so that we can reach a bigger audience for this application, and we also hope to expand to other countries and not just operating in Malaysia.
