HP IMC Branch Intelligent Management Software

In document HP FlexNetwork (Page 153-157)

Branch Intelligent Management Software (BIMS) allows you to securely manage customer premise equipment (CPE) in wide area networks (WANs). It is based on the TR-069 protocol, which is used to enable communications between CPE and Auto-Configuration Servers. In addition, TR0-69 incorporates management functions, including software management, status and performance monitoring, and diagnostic capabilities. BIMS allows you to configure resources, services, groups, and user rights. In addition, it provides alarms for significant events.

Licensing

Figure 4-3: Licensing for IMC version 7.0.

IMC base platform is licensed in two editions. Licensing is based on nodes. Nodes are defined as a device with an IP address.

The new IMC version 7.0 will be easier to purchase. This brings two key changes:

Reduction in the number of SKUs

Shift from user-based licensing to concurrent licensing

To help you better understand this, here’s some background information:

IMC utilizes three different models for licensing: node-based, user-based, or perpetual. The licensing model used for a particular module depends on the module’s capabilities.

Node-based: Entitles device or node to be managed by IMC

User-based: Entitles named user/device to be managed by IMC

Perpetual: One-time license fee for module entitlement

License model Current product structure New product and/or license structure

Node-based Defined node count packages of different sizes with volume discounts built into SKUs

Single package SKU with a node count of 50 licenses with volume discounts applied at time of purchase.

User-based License for each named user Single package with a node count of 50 licenses and concurrent licensing Perpetual License package for a flat fee No change

The customer will order the base IMC platform—either a Standard or Enterprise version—which equals 50 nodes, and then purchase additional IMC 50-pack nodes to meet the required number of managed nodes. All modules with the exception of NTA will also start with a base license with 50 license pack add-ons available. With NTA, the base license is for 5 nodes with each add-on providing an additional 5 nodes.

More detail on licensing, pricing and installation are available in separate training and install documents regarding IMC. What follows here is a brief overview of the two IMC editions; Standard and Enterprise.

Rev. 14.21 4 –11 STANDARD

HP Intelligent Management Center (IMC) Standard Edition Software is a standalone, comprehensive management platform that delivers integrated, modular management capabilities across fault, configuration, accounting,

performance, and security needs. IMC Standard Edition is designed on a service -oriented architecture (SOA) using a business application flow model as the core to allow the management of resources, services, and users to be fully integrated.

IMC Standard Edition allows an enterprise business to grow its management in scale and seamlessly accommodate new technologies. Using an SOA, IMC is capable of including additional modules to the base platform to provide deeper functionality. IMC supports the management of HP and third-party devices and is compatible with Microsoft® Windows® and Linux operating systems. IMC

Standard Edition comes with an initial license for 100 managed devices. Additional node licenses are available to extend the node limit.

Highly flexible and scalable deployment

Powerful administration control

Rich resource management

Detailed performance monitoring and management

Flexible centralized reporting

ENTERPRISE

HP Intelligent Management Center (IMC) Enterprise Edition is a standalone, comprehensive management platform that delivers next-generation, integrated, modular network management capabilities that efficiently meet the needs of

advanced, heterogeneous enterprise networks. IMC Enterprise Edition is designed on a service-oriented architecture (SOA) using a business application flow model as its core and featuring an on-demand, modularized structure. The allows the efficient implementation of end-to-end business management, while IMC software's modular design allows for the effective integration of traditionally separate management tools. Together, they provide complete management of resources, services, and users. The software is compatible with Microsoft®

Windows® Server and supports the management of HP and third-party devices.

The base license supports 200 managed devices. Additional node licenses can be purchased. Two nodes of Network Traffic Analyzer are also included.

Highly flexible, scalable deployment models

Powerful administration control

Rich resource management

Detailed performance monitoring and management

Flexible centralized reporting IMC can support over 10,000 devices.

Note

You can download a 60-day trial version of IMC to try out. After the 60 days, you will need a valid license for your IMC to continue functioning. This can be downloaded from www.hp.com/networking
