Description of Major
The Human Sciences major introduces students to an overview of the content in the College, with an emphasis on the
application of knowledge in various social service settings and settings where educational strategies are prominent. With early planning, double majoring is a possibility and is encouraged.
Prerequisite Coursework
Students are encouraged to complete the following prerequisites, or their equivalents, for admission in preparation for the upper division major. Students who do not complete the program prerequisites will have the opportunity to do so once at FSU.
Most prerequisite coursework may also apply toward Liberal Studies or the major.

Admission Requirements to Major Program of Studies
To be admitted, students must complete at least 52 hours of credit with an adjusted GPA of 2.0 on FSU coursework, and at least half the required hours in Liberal Studies including required English and mathematics, or an A.A. Degree. Students must achieve at least a 2.5 in the course required for the major.

Description of Major
The purpose of the Humanities major is to provide the opportunity for broad experience in the Humanities departments with enough study in one field to prepare for graduate work and to ensure against superficiality. Organization of knowledge along the lines of traditional departments is important, but great benefit may be derived from supplemental study in concentrations such as Classical Civilization, Contemporary Culture, Asian Studies, etc. The program not only gives the student a thorough Liberal Arts background, but also provides a valuable foundation for a variety of professional fields, such as teaching, journalism, law, librarianship, foreign service, the religious professions, music, arts administration, and government service.
Prerequisite Coursework: none. However, students are encouraged to complete the four Humanities Core courses during their freshman and sophomore years: HUM 2210 (3), HUM 2235 (3), HUM 2250 (3), and HUM 3324 (3). Two of these courses may be used to satisfy Liberal Studies and two may apply toward the Time Period/Concentration requirement in the major.
Requirements for graduation in the College of Arts and Sciences include: a minimum of six hours each in written
communication, humanities, and natural science, and three hours each in history and mathematics. These should be completed as part of the general education/Liberal Studies program. In addition, students must complete a foreign language through the intermediate (2220 or equivalent) level.
Admission Requirements to Major Program of Studies

Major Program of Studies at FSU: 39 hours beyond Liberal Studies
The major combination comprises a minimum of thirty‐nine (39) hours beyond the Liberal Studies requirements and numbered above 1999. These hours will be distributed as follows:
Humanities Core (0 hours beyond Liberal Studies and other requirements)
The following four courses, or their equivalent, are required of all majors. Two should be used to meet the Humanities area Liberal Studies requirement and two should be used to meet the Time Period/Concentration requirement outlined below.

HUM 3324 (3) Cultural Imperialism Department Requirement (18 hours)
Eighteen (18) hours selected from one of the following departments: American Studies, Art History, Asian and Middle East Studies, Classical Languages, Literature & Civilization, Communications, English, Film Studies, Interior Design/Art History, History, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, Modern Languages, Music, Philosophy, Religion, Theatre, Philosophy, or a modern or classical language above the 3000 level.
*Time Period/Concentration (15 hours)
Fifteen (15) hours must be selected from one of the following time periods or concentrations: Classical Studies, Medieval Studies, Renaissance Studies, Eighteenth Century Studies, Nineteenth Century Studies, Twentieth Century Studies, American Studies, Asian and Middle East Studies, African‐American Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, or Women’s Studies.
Coursework must be taken from at least three departments, with no more than six (6) hours taken from the same department.
