Notes:
• The Combo audio jack 8 supports a microphone-integrated headset and a conventional microphone.
• By default, the Always On USB 3.0 connector 9 enables you to charge some mobile digital devices and smartphones when your computer is in sleep mode, in hibernation mode, or turned off.
The card reader slot 11 is for a 11-in-1 card reader, supporting the following cards:
• Extreme Digital (x-D) Picture Card (type H)
• Extreme Digital (x-D) Picture Card (type M)
• Memory Stick (MS)
• MS PRO
• MultiMediaCard (MMC)
• MultiMediaCard-mobile (MMC-mobile)
• MultiMediaCard-plus (MMC-plus)
• Reduced-Size MultiMediaCard (RS-MMC)
• Secure Digital (SD) card
• Secure Digital eXtended-Capacity (SDXC) card
• Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) card
Locating connectors on the rear of your computer
Figure 2 “Rear connector locations” on page 69 shows the locations of the connectors on the rear of your computer. Some connectors on the rear of your computer are color-coded to help you determine where to connect the cables on your computer.

3 Ethernet connector 9 Volume-down control
4 HDMI-in connector 10 Volume-up control
5 HDMI-out connector 11 Optical drive
6 USB 2.0 connectors (4)
Connector Description
Ethernet connector Used to attach an Ethernet cable for a local area network (LAN).
Note: To operate the computer within FCC Class B limits, use a Category 5 Ethernet cable.
Combo audio jack (support headset and Microphone)
Used to attach a supported headset to your computer to record sound, use speech-recognition software, or listen to music or other sounds without disturbing anyone.
Chapter 8. Locations 69
Connector Description
HDMI monitor connector Used to deliver uncompressed high-definition video and multichannel digital audio signals through a single cable. This HDMI connector can attach a high performance monitor, a direct drive monitor, or other audio or video devices that use an HDMI connector.
USB 2.0 connector Used to attach a device that requires a USB 2.0 connector, such as a USB keyboard, a USB mouse, a USB scanner, or a USB printer. If you have more than eight USB devices, you can purchase a USB hub, which you can use to connect additional USB devices.
USB 3.0 connector Used to attach a device that requires a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 connector, such as a keyboard, a mouse, a scanner, a printer, or a personal digital assistant (PDA).
USB 3.0 connectors provide high transmission speeds to reduce the time for data transmission.
Locating major FRUs and CRUs
Figure 3 “Locating major FRUs and CRUs” on page 72 shows the locations of the major FRUs and CRUs in the computer. To remove the computer cover, see “Removing the computer cover” on page 80.

Figure 3. Locating major FRUs and CRUs
The following table lists the major FRUs shown in Figure 3 “Locating major FRUs and CRUs” on page 72 and identifies which FRUs are also self-service CRUs or optional-service CRUs.
Notes:
• Self-service CRUs: These CRUs unplug or are secured by no more than two screws. Examples of these types of CRUs include the keyboard, the mouse, any USB device, and the power cord. Other self-service CRUs depending on product design might include memory modules, adapter cards, hard disk drives, and optical drives.
• Optional-service CRUs: These CRUs are isolated parts within the computer and are concealed by an access panel that is typically secured by more than two screws. Once the access panel is removed, the specific CRU is visible.
