3.6.5 HOW TO MOVE THE MACHINE

WARNING

q Before moving the machine, make sure that you know

the control functions and all the relevant safety regula- tions perfectly.

q The operator must be seated in the driving position with

fastened safety belt and must have checked the position of the rear-view mirrors.

q Before moving the machine, make sure that there is no

one within the range of movement of the machine and that there are no obstacles in the surrounding area.

q Be extremely careful when engaging the reverse and

make sure that there are no persons, other equipment or obstacles in the way.

q The brake pedals must be connected with the special

pin provided for this purpose.

Before moving the machine, check the instruments, warm up the engine, heat the hydraulic oil, and make sure that the sta- bilizers have been raised and that both the front bucket and the backhoe are in transport position.

The control levers must be in the neutral position (N). At this point, release the parking brake.

Proceed as follows:

1 - Select the travel direction, by shifting the control lever (1) forward (F) or backward (R).

2 - Select the gear by means of the gearshift lever (2). 3 - Accelerate gradually using the accelerator pedal.

IMPORTANT

q The travel direction must be selected with the engine at

low rpm, in order to avoid abrupt accelerations.

q For the operation of the gearshift and its functions, see

"3.3.6 pos. 5 - GEARSHIFT LEVER".

q To shift gears, it is necessary to operate the declutch

button (see "3.3.6 pos. 10 - DECLUTCH PUSH BUT- TON").

q If it is necessary to shift down, first reduce the engine

rpm and then shift down.

q If it is necessary to reverse, slow down by putting on the

brakes before operating the reversing gear lever.

USE OF THE MACHINE

3.6.5.1 DIFFERENTIAL LOCKING

WARNING

q This device can be used only with the 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear

engaged, either forward or reverse.

The differential must be locked with the machine at rest or at very low speed.

q The release of the differential takes place automatically

when the axles transmit the same load as before, that is, when the two-wheel drive is engaged.

This device is useful when the machine must work on muddy or loose ground or when the machine gets stuck in mud. The differential can be locked by pressing the button (1) posi- tioned on the front bucket control lever, with the rear wheels at rest.

In exceptional cases the locking of the differential can be per- formed even with the machine running straight at very low speed, that is, with the rear wheels turning at the same speed.

3.6.5.2 ENGAGING THE FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE

WARNING

q The four-wheel drive must be engaged only with ma-

chine at rest or travelling at low speed.

q When travelling on roads or removing the machine, dis-

engage the four-wheel drive.

The four-wheel drive can be engaged and disengaged by means of the switch (1) positioned on the front dashboard. It is normally used when the machine must move on muddy, icy, gravelly ground, on slopes and in any situation in which it is difficult to move the machine.

The four-wheel drive must be used even when the machine is provided with optional equipment to be employed as snow- plough.

IMPORTANT

q The four-wheel drive is automatically engaged when the

machine brakes and only in 4th gear.

USE OF THE MACHINE

3.6.5.3 WORKING ON SLOPES

WARNING

q Before starting work on slopes, always check the func-

tionality of the brakes and of the parking brake.

q Always engage the four-wheel drive. q Avoid engaging the high gears.

q Do not move downhill with the gearshift in neutral, but

keep always the low gears engaged.

NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES MAY CAUSE YOU TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE MACHINE AND THIS MAY OVERTURN.

q Avoid using the declutch push button.

When working on slopes some precautions should be taken to avoid risks for the operator and anyone in the vicinity; the checks and operations to be carried out are the following: 1 - Always check the work area for snow, landslips, gravel,

loose ground and anything that may suddenly modify the work conditions and the stability of the machine.

2 - When it is necessary to travel downhill, the front bucket must always be directed downward, in transport position. 3 - When loading or travelling uphill, the front bucket must al-

ways be directed upward.

4 - When moving the machine during work, always lower the front bucket.

5 - Carry out any lateral movement on a flat surface at the beginning or at the end of the slope; if this is not possible, move obliquely, keeping the machine axis as parallel to the slope directrix as possible.

Do not move too obliquely, or, even worse, with the ma- chine axis rotated by 90° with respect to the slope direc- trix.

USE OF THE MACHINE

3.6.5.4 MAXIMUM IMMERSION DEPTH

WARNING

q If it is necessary to work with the machine immersed in water or on river banks or sea shores, always

check the water depth and the current flow.

q Make sure that the surface on which you are working is sufficiently firm.

If it is necessary to work with the machine immersed in water, make sure that the maximum depth does not exceed 50 cm and in any case that the engine cooling fan does not touch the water, since it may get damaged or even break.

CAUTION

q When working in water or on muddy ground, lubricate the articulations more frequently than usual. q After work, remove any dirt or mud and lubricate the articulations.
