When God changes lives supernaturally, the word speeds more rapidly around the world than you can keep up with it! We received more invitations to minister throughout Africa than we could count, but it was impossible to respond to every invitation. We finally packed for South Africa and were thrilled so see the faith of the wonderful African people. They came to our meetings expecting God to do the supernatural, and when you expect God to do the supernatural, miracles are easy!
A girl who had been involved in a motorcycle accident a week before attended one of our first meetings. Her neck was in a stiff metal collar. Her skull and vertebrae at the back of her neck had been fractured. She had been told she would have to remain in the neck collar for months.
When she first had the accident, it seemed as though there was nothing wrong; but before the day was over, her one entire side became paralyzed, and her arm and leg drew up. This was when they discovered the fracture.
Charles laid hands on her, and she fell out under the power of God and was there on the floor for a considerable length of time. When she got up, she ripped the collar off her neck. She twisted her neck in every direction, and every bit of pain and every bit of any associated problem was totally healed by the power of God. She could hardly contain herself and announced to the crowded auditorium,
“I’m going to the doctor tonight, and I am going to tell him about my healing!”
She went to her doctor at 11:30 that night and got him out of bed to verify the healing! He was not really happy about being awakened, but he had to admit that the power of God had done a miracle work in her neck.
We discovered there were many people who had stuttering problems in South Africa, and we witnessed
person after person healed completely of stuttering. What a joy to see their tongue released totally for the Lord!
In Empangeni, there was a lady who had polio when she was a baby and had been crippled on one side of her body all of her life. When she was ministered to, her leg grew out and her arm grew out. She came back the next night to tell us that, for the first time in her life, she had awakened that morning without pain in her body.
We took a drive over to the tiny nation of Zulu, which is positioned in the interior of South Africa like a tiny hole in a large donut. That night, we had a word of knowledge on ear problems, and eight people came forward who had been born deaf in one ear. God opened every single deaf ear! What a time of rejoicing this was for the Zulu people!
Throughout South Africa, in Empangeni, in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Zulu, Durban, the hungering for the baptism with the Holy Spirit was almost unbelievable. Service after service after service, it looked like half to three- quarters of the audience would come forward to receive the baptism. So many people came forward the first night in Empangeni for baptism in the Holy Spirit that we had no one left to lay hands on for healing. Four thousand people received the baptism with the Holy Spirit that night.
In Port Elizabeth, there was no place for the people to come forward in the town hall except to go up on the stage.
There were so many crowded on the stage to receive the baptism with the Holy Spirit that we had to pray the stage would not collapse under their weight!
Port Elizabeth was interesting because we really had very little to do in the healing line. The people realized THEY could do the same thing as Charles and Frances, and they began ministering to each other and getting people healed.
One young boy about nine years old met me as I came off the stage. He had a lower back problem and could hardly walk. He asked me if I would please heal him. He sat down, his leg grew out, and his back was instantly healed.
The most exciting part of the story is that he got the message, “If Charles and Frances can do it, I can do it, too!
As I was laying hands on other people down the line, I turned around and saw him laying hands on a big Zulu man who stood about six foot two. That man was totally healed and fell under the power of God. What a joy that this little nine-year-old boy caught the vision and continued to minister to people down the line!
Sometimes people find unique ways to receive what they need from God. In Durban, the chef at the hotel accepted Jesus as his Savior and Lord after hiding behind a screen to listen to me share my testimony. Then he went on to receive the baptism and fell under the power of God.
After he received the power of God, he no longer felt he had to hide behind a screen!
Many, many people received heart healings. They returned to our services after we had laid hands on them for new hearts, to report that the pain they had suffered for years was totally gone.
Signs and wonders followed us wherever we went in Africa. When people are expecting, miracles are easy!
