Network Discovery Overview

sl360 Network Discovery performs a lightening quick scan of the entire network to discover all devices. Leveraging SNMP, the tool provides a complete set of attributes for each device that has been discovered and the results are piped into a cutting-edge iGoogle-like user interface.

 Gather all technical data including hardware, software, and processes for each device.

 Identify devices by responding, status, protocols, type, and operating system

 Scan a single device, a subnet, or a range of subnets.

 Interact with ScriptLogic Encrypted Credential Store for user access to devices.

Run Network Discovery

Step 1: Enter the host name, IP Address or Range of IP Addresses into the Target field.

Step 2: Select Network Discovery Options

Exclude Devices in Database

Select if you want to not include previous discovered devices that are in the device database in your new search.

Ping

Uses ICMP to get responding status of a device.

MAC Resolution

Uses MAC Address to discover a device on the network.

Common Ports

Uses Port Scan to discover a device on the network.

Step 3: Select the Device Details you want to discover for each device.

DNS Lookup

Uses DNS Audit to provide the domain name to the IP Address.

Ports

Uses Port Scan to provide the open and closed ports for each IP Address.

Processor

Displays the current Processor Usage for each device.

Memory

Displays the current Memory Usage for each device.

Logical Disks

Displays all the disk volumes and their current usage for a given device.

Network Adapters

Displays all the network adapters and their current usage for a given device.

Software Inventory

Gathers all the software installed on each device

Running Processes

Provides all the processes names and paths for a given device.

Step 4: Set the SNMP Credentials for your network. Network Discovery runs both SNMP v1/v2 and SNMP v3 at the same time.

SNMP V1/2c Credential

Set the proper credential store for the network of the device you are going to monitor with the CPU Gauge. To configure the credential store, please see the section titled Credential Settings.

SNMP V3 Credential

Set the proper credential store for the network of the device you are going to monitor with the CPU Gauge. To configure the credential store, please see the section titled Credential Settings.

Step 5: Click Next to discover the devices in your target field/

Step 6: Select the devices you want to do a deep discovery on.

Step 7: Click Next.

Step 8: A display of scanned devices with DNS, Operating System, and Overall Status. Click Next.

Step 9: Click Finish to proceed to the Device Viewer.

Configure Advanced Settings

DNS Audit settings allow you to turn on or off which resolutions are displayed.

To configure click Settings button in the tool.

Ping

Ping Timeout (ms)

Designates the maximum amount of time in milliseconds that Ping will wait for a response from the target. If the target does not respond within the number of milliseconds set, Ping Scan will assume it is down.

Ping Packet TTL (Time-To-Live)

Designates the number of hops along the way to the specified address. With a setting of 32, your Ping Scan could pass through up to 32 different routers on the way to the remote address before being thrown away by the network.

Pings Per Node

Allows you to control the number of Ping attempts to send each address during a scan.

When scanning networks containing Cisco routers, set this number above two (2). If the target IP address is not in the ARP cache of a Cisco router, the router discards the ICMP query (Ping) while it requests the MAC address of the target IP. The first Ping will never arrive at the subnet of the target IP address. In this situation, the Cisco router responds to the second Ping.

Ports

Select Pre-loaded Ports

Simply check or uncheck any listed port and click on “ok.”

Add Custom Ports

Click on the “Add New Port” button in the upper right hand corner of the settings dialogue box.

When the “Add New Port” dialogue box opens, enter the Port Number and Port Description and click on “Add Port.”

DNS

Resolve NetBIOS name

Instructs the Audit to resolve and display available NetBIOS information.

Resolve LMHost name

Instructs the Audit to resolve and display available LMHost information.

Resolve Host name

Instructs the Audit to resolve and display available Host information.

Resolve Forward DNS name

Instructs the Audit to resolve and display IP Address information linked from the DNS name.

SNMP Timeout (ms)

Designates the maximum amount of time in milliseconds that Ping will wait for a response from the target. If the target does not respond within the number of milliseconds set, Ping Scan will assume it is down

Network Inventory Overview

sl360 Network Inventory creates a detailed repository of all devices on your network. It provides operating system, interface and port details, IP addresses, installed Windows software and many other details. The Network Inventory utility has robust searching and reporting capabilities as well.

 Take full control of all network assets you care about

 No special agents or data collectors are needed

 Store all inventory information locally for quick access

 Utilize SNMP protocols in the network discovery engine

 Search for granular information across all devices for additional analysis

 Generate reports for each or all devices and export to HTML or .CSV
