En conclusión, los hallazgos de este estudio demuestran que las pacientes con Seguro Popular se presentan con enfermedad más avanzada al momento del diagnóstico, probablemente secundario a la menor tasa de casos detectados mediante mamografía de tamizaje y a retraso en el diagnóstico. Se necesitan desarrollar e implementar estrategias para mejorar el acceso a la atención médica preventiva y mamografías de tamizaje. Del mismo modo, se necesita mayor investigación para identificar las barreras que obstaculizan la detección y atención médica oportuna del cáncer de mama en pacientes con Seguro Popular con el fin de desarrollar intervenciones dirigidas que mejoren la mortalidad de este grupo de pacientes.
No se encontraron diferencias en desenlaces, debido probablemente a que las pacientes con cobertura a través del Programa de Seguro Popular tienen una cobertura muy similar de los tratamientos estándar para el tratamiento de cáncer de mama, lo cual destaca la relevancia de proveer de forma gratuita la atención de pacientes con este diagnóstico en nuestro país.
