CHAPTER 3 – SOFTWARE/COMMUNICATION PROTO COLS

3.2 P ROGRAM S PECIFICATION S HEETS

Program Specification Sheets contain detailed information about the software loaded into the Currency Validator. To obtain information about the protocol, currency type, channel size, and DIP-switch settings for your Currency Validator, refer to GPT’s Web site at http://www.gpt.com/_softdatashts/Default.htm and perform the instructions indicated.

A sample Program Specification Sheet is provided in Figure 3-1. To address the different aspects of the software, the Program Specification Sheet is divided into the following sec-tions:

General – contains general characteristics such as the machine type, ISO code, program revision number, currency type, I/O protocols, channel size; also, refer-ence documents and additional program information (e.g., magnetic head type) are included.

Currency/Codes of Bank Notes Accepted – lists bank notes and their associated VFM or Hex codes accepted by the program.

Special Program Functions and References – defines protocols used with the Cur-rency Validator; it also contains custom application information requested by the customer.

DIP-Switch Functions and Definitions Table/Notes – identifies DIP-switch settings and defines the currency denominations/directions supported by the program.

Note: The DIP switches are set to the on position when they are pointing toward their respective numbers.

Notes on Last 5 Transaction Functions – displays a binary code on the bezel that represents the denomination of the last five bills, starting with the last bill, that were inserted into the Currency Validator.

LED Status Codes – displays a flashing code that identifies the Currency Validator's States, i.e., Idle, Inhibit, or Fault.

Note: To determine the status code, wait until the red LED stops flashing, then start counting flashes until the LED stops again.

V2.2

Reference Document IPS7009

Description The V2 protocol contains features designed to detect transmission er-rors and allows for the re-transmission of data in case an error occurs.

It also allows full access to the validator’s features and gives detailed information on the current state of the validator.

VFM/GL5 S/P

Reference Document IPS6007

Description VFM SERIAL PROTOCOL

The VFM serial protocol uses a Mars defined TTL level serial handshak-ing. It allows communication of the accepted bill values and status to the host in an 8-bit word using one data line and three control lines.

VFM PULSE PROTOCOL

The VFM pulse protocol uses a Mars defined TTL level pulse that de-fines the bill denomination and the credit information selected with the DIP switches. The Escrow mode is not supported.

NOTES ON LAST 5 TRANSACTION FUNCTIONS

This function will cause the last five bills inserted into the validator to be displayed by the bezel. The last bill will be displayed first. Each denomination’s bill type is displayed by the bezel's green LEDs. The green LEDs encode the bill type in binary format, as follows:

8--- 4--- 2--- 1--

WIDEST ROW = 1 NARROWEST ROW = 8

Examples:

8--- 4--- 2--- 1--

Bill Type 1 Bill Type 6

(LEDs 1 are lit) (LEDs 2 and 4 are lit)

To determine the bill’s denomination, refer to Currency Information Table, Sheet 1.

A full cycle of information consists of several parts. The first bill is displayed by the bezel for half-a-second. Next, the unit is dark for half-a-second. The unit repeats this process for the second, third, and fourth bills. After the last bill is displayed by the bezel for half-a-second, the unit will be dark for one second to signal the end of the cycle. This process continues indefinitely until DIP-Switch 7 is set to Normal operation.
