Part C: RN-BSN Students RN-BSN Option
Lander University offers an option for licensed registered nurses to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with learning experiences concentrated in physical assessment, community health, leadership, management, and research. The BSN completion option for Registered Nurses is offered in an asynchronous online format. The online option is available to registered nurses and features web based delivery that will enable registered nurse students to attend class at home and at their convenience via the Internet. Graduates will acquire
professional level knowledge and skills to practice nursing in traditional and diverse settings and to enter graduate study in nursing and related fields. The option is approved by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing
Education (One Dupont Circle, NW Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036; phone (202) 887-6791, fax: (202) 887-8476).

Articulation Agreements
Articulation agreements with the technical schools in SC were established for the RN-BSN option in 2014. Students are required to have equivalent hours; however, students are allowed some flexibility in choosing general education coursework from the institution’s approved list of general education courses. Students may be admitted under the articulation agreements in effect at the time of admission to the nursing major.

Educational Philosophy for the Registered Nurse
In accordance with the philosophy of Lander University, the School of Nursing recognizes the educational preparation and experience of practicing nurses which is documented by licensure as a registered nurse.
The nursing faculty believes:
- The registered nurse student brings a variety of professional and personal experiences to the learning environment.
- Graduates of approved nursing education programs have a fundamental body of nursing knowledge and competence.
- Progression toward a higher degree in the same field should be available without undue repetition of content or experience.
164
Fall 2015 Section III
- Professional nursing practice is founded on an evolving body of nursing knowledge supported by a strong liberal arts emphasis in behavioral, physical, and analytical sciences as well as the humanities.
- The registered nurse student is a motivated, self-directed adult learner.
- The complexity of nursing care currently needed by society requires that nurses continue to expand their areas of competence.
- Professional nursing practice requires a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing. - The adult learner should have available multiple instructional modalities, including
online courses with self-directed and collaborative learning, to enhance and make accessible the educational process.

Special Circumstances Status in the RN-BSN Option
Former Lander University associate degree nursing graduates with less a 2.6 cumulative GPA on work done at Lander University may be eligible for special circumstances status in the RN-BSN option. Special circumstance status permits a student to pursue a nursing degree while
demonstrating his/her current level of academic maturity. This status allows the institutional GPA to be calculated beginning with admission to the RN-BSN option. A student may qualify for special circumstances status if the student has a previous Lander University cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, has not been enrolled at Lander for at least 5 years, earns at least a 2.6 GPA on course work following readmission to Lander University, and has not previously been granted Academic Renewal by the University or special circumstances status by the School of Nursing. Students granted special circumstances status in the RN-BSN option must meet all other requirements for progression and graduation.
Reaffirmed 2010; 5/2011; 5/2012; 5/2014; 5/2015
Rationale
Some ADN graduates from Lander are at a disadvantage in comparison to graduates from other nursing programs since they begin courses in the RN-BSN Option with a previous Lander GPA that is lower than 2.6. This proposal would permit them to demonstrate their academic maturity by letting them begin Lander courses with a new GPA as if they were new to Lander.
