7.1. Properties Window Display

The Properties window displays a two-column table with the common properties of the current selection in the active design window.

7.2. Open the Properties Window

1. Right-click anywhere in the toolbar region of the SmartPlant P&ID window.

2. On the shortcut menu, click Properties. A check mark beside the window name on the shortcut menu indicates that the window is visible in the SmartPlant P&ID window.

Note: You can display the Catalog Explorer , the Engineering Data Editor, the Main toolbar, ribbon bars, and any customized toolbars you added using this same procedure.

7.3. View Item Properties

After you display the Properties window, you can select an item in the P&ID to view or modify its properties.

1. In the Drawing window, select the item of interest.

By default, the properties of the selected item are organized alphabetically in the Properties window and each category is expanded to reveal all associated properties.

When displayed alphabetically you can click beside each category name to hide the associated properties.

2. To view properties by category, click the Alphabetized/Categorized button in the Properties window.

You can add and change properties of a selected item from both the Alphabetic and Categorized tabs.

In the Properties window, you can change the view or manipulate properties using the shortcut icons located at the top. The following icons are available:

Alphabetized/Categorized - Toggles the display of the item properties from an alphabetized to a categorized viewing of the properties.

Show Brief Properties - Displays a brief set of properties for the item if it has been defined. This is defined using the Tabular View for this item type.

Copy Bulk Properties - Copies the bulk set of properties that was defined for the item type. This is defined using the Tabular View for this item type.

Paste Bulk Properties - Pastes the bulk set of properties that was copied. You must paste to an item of the same type.

Display Null - Displays the word "null" or the word that has been designated to represent properties that have not been defined.

Show Case Data - Displays a list of case conditions, for example, temperatures, pressures, and so forth. Case data includes both process cases and control cases, which are displayed for equipment, pipe runs or instruments, according to relevance. To see the case data that appears for corresponding items, look in Data Dictionary Manager.

Show Select Set - When using a fence to select a set of items, displays the common properties of the selected items. This option improves display performance.

Show Single Item - When using a fence to select a set of items, displays the properties of one item only. If you select multiple items by holding down the Ctrl key, the software displays the select set properties.

7.4. Close the Properties Window

To provide more working space in the SmartPlant P&ID window, you can close the Properties window at any time.

You can close the Catalog Explorer and the Stockpile using this same procedure. 7.5. Viewing and Editing Item Properties

To view or edit an item property:

1. Click on the applicable item on the P&ID (the properties will display in the Properties window)

2. To edit a property, click in a cell next to the property and enter the value for the property selected. The way a value is entered is based on the type of value., i.e. text box, drop down list, etc.

7.6. Working with Auto-Tag Generation

SmartPlant P&ID can automatically generate unique item tags for equipment, piping, and off-page connectors and instrument loops when this option is selected.

If you choose to manually input the Tag Seq No information in the field, the software will check for duplicate values when the Item Tag is generated. If an Item Tag already exists with that value, the software will prompt you to create a unique value.

7.7. Piping

Fluid Code property for a line, the calculation program generates the Tag Sequence Number and formats the value together with the Fluid Code to generate the Item Tag.

7.8. Select Sets

If you select multiple items then their common properties will be shown in the Properties Window At the top of the Properties Window the drop down bar will show "Select Set" when it is showing the properties for multiple items. If you click on the drop down bar you will then see all items that are part of the select set. The Properties Window will only show those property fields that are common to all items selected. I.E. if you have a nozzle and a pipe selected then Nominal Diameter will show, but Pipe Spec will not be shown. Likewise if both the pipe and nozzle have the same Nominal Diameter then that value will be shown in the Properties Window. If they are different then the field will be blank, but you can select the field and the top options in the drop down box will be all the values that make up your select setApplying Properties

Equipment When you define the Tag Prefix property for equipment in a P&ID, the calculation program automatically creates the next Tag Seq No and formats the values together to generate the Item Tag property for the item.

Piping When you set the Fluid Code property for a line, the calculation program generates the Tag Sequence Number and formats the value together with the Fluid Code to generate the Item Tag.

Once you have a Select Set defined, anytime you set one of the fields in the property window it will then be applied to everything in the select set. This is highly recommended for applying properties across several items.
