REMOVAL FROM BOTTOM SHELL

DANGER

Lockout power source during installation, cleaning, or servicing the equipment or when making repairs. Failure to do so could result in severe bodily injury or death.

To remove the pinionshaft assembly from the crusher, take the following steps (refer to Fig. 9-1, 9-2, and 9-3 for parts relationship):

1. Remove the floating drive shaft assembly between the crusher and motor.

2. Remove the coupling half from the pinionshaft. 3. Drain the oil by removing drain pipe plug (3341-6).

WARNING

Oil products present environmental and fire risks and can cause injury if inhaled or brought into contact with the skin. Follow your lubricant suppliers instructions and safety directions when handling oil and greases.

4. Disconnect the hose assemblies to the oil sight gauge at the pinionshaft housing.

5. Remove the nuts from the attaching studs or bolts from the flange on the pinionshaft housing that holds the assembly in the bottom shell.

6. Use the two square head withdrawal bolts provided in the flange of the pinionshaft housing to remove the assembly from the fit in the bottom shell opening. 7. Install (2) Heavy Duty Hoist Rings in mounting flange

of pinionshaft housing, attach sling and apply slight crane or ratchet hoist pressure to the assembly. 8. Place a pipe as a counterbalance over the exposed

end of the pinionshaft where the coupling was removed. Apply hand pressure to the pipe to balance the pinionshaft assembly and slowly begin to remove the pinionshaft housing from the crusher.

9. After the pinionshaft housing has been drawn out of the crusher approximately two-thirds of the way, a third threaded hole for another Heavy Duty Hoist Ring will become visible at the top of the pinionshaft housing. Install a Heavy Duty Hoist Ring and attach

DISASSEMBLY

After the pinionshaft assembly has been removed from the crusher, placed on blocks and the oil drained, it can be dismantled.

1. Opposite the pinion end, remove the seal plate (3190-2) with oil seal (3170-2).

2. With a hammer and screwdriver, drive the lockwasher (3150-0) tab out of the locknut spacer (3090-2) groove. Unscrew the locknut and remove it and the lockwasher (NOTE: Left-handed threads).

3. Back out the seal plate bolts (3210-0) and washers (3210-4) on the pinion end as far as possible. 4. Press the pinionshaft (3505-0) with the pinion end

bearing (3070-1), pinion end spacer (3090-1) and pinion (3050-0) partially out of the housing, toward the pinion end (see Fig. 9-4). This will provide sufficient clearance to back the seal plate bolts (3210-0) completely out of the tapped holes in the housing. The shaft can now be pushed completely out of the housing.

5. Remove the drive end bearing (3070-2) from the housing (3005-0). It is a loose fit in the housing bore 0.00 -- 0.11 mm (0.000 -- 0.0043 inch).

6. Press off the pinion (3050-0) from the shaft (3505-0). The pinion is shrunk fit to the shaft with 0.10 -- 0.15 mm (0.004 -- 0.006 inch) interference. See Fig. 9-5 for method of removal.

7. Remove pinion end seal plate (3190-1) with oil seal (3170-1) and seal plate gasket (3240-1).

8. Remove pinion end spacer (3090-1) and spacer gasket (3120-1).

9. Press off pinion end bearing (3070-1). The pinion end bearing is shrunk fit to the shaft with 0.05 -- 0.10 mm (0.0020 -- 0.0044 inch) interference. The pinion shaft is machined to facilitate hydraulic removal of this bearing. To remove the pinion end bearing, replace the pipe plug in the pinion end of the shaft with a high-pressure fitting and attach a 10,000 psi (68,900 kPa) grease gun. Pump the gun to build up hydraulic pressure between the inner race of the bearing and the shaft while pulling the bearing from the shaft.

10. Clean all parts and replace those that have been damaged or have failed.

REASSEMBLY

NOTICE

Heat bearings and pinion in oil not exceeding 149_C (300_F) when needed for shrink fit assembly.

CAUTION

Be extremely careful when handling heated oil and machine components.

1. Heat bearings (3070-1 & 3070-2) and pinion (3050-0) in oil not exceeding 149_C (300_F) when needed for

5. Assemble the drive end bearing (3070-2) onto the pinionshaft (3505-0). This bearing has a fit of 0.02 mm (0.0010 inch) loose to 0.03 mm (0.0012 inch) tight between the inner race and the pinionshaft. Make sure the bearing is tight against the shaft shoulder. 6. After the bearing has cooled, install in sequence, one

locknut spacer gasket (3120-2), lockwasher (3150-0) and the other locknut spacer gasket (3120-2) onto the drive end of the pinionshaft.

7. Install the locknut spacer (3090-2) and tighten. Bend down the tab on lockwasher (3150-0) into the recess on the locknut spacer (3090-2).

8. Insert the pinionshaft (3505-0) into the housing (3005-0) until the drive end bearing (3070-2) shoulder comes to rest against the seat in the housing bore. The drive end bearing (3070-2) is a loose fit in the housing bore 0.00 -- 0.11 mm (0.000 -- 0.0043 inch). 9. Install the drive end seal plate (3190-2) snugly to the housing, without gasket (3240-2) installed. Measure the gap between the seal plate and the housing. Add gaskets (3240-2) 0.20 mm (0.008 inch) thicker than the gap and fasten the seal plate (3190-2) with oil seal (3170-2) into place.

NOTICE

Assemble drive end oil seal (3170-2) with lip pointing toward the drive end bearing (3070-2).

10. Secure the pinion end seal plate (3190-1) with oil seal (3170-1) and gasket (3240-1) into place. Pinion end oil seal (3170-1) should be assembled in the seal plate (3190-1) as follows.

a. Locate the oil seal contamination discharge port of the pinion end Protech labyrinth seal (3170-1) and mark its position on the face of the seal with paint or a grease pencil.

b. Install the Protech seal (3170-1) into seal plate by hand pressure, making sure to line up the contam- inant discharge port with one of the half circle cut- outs, on the seal plate flange outer diameter. c. Assemble the seal plate (3190-1) with the con-
