2. The Response to The Directive Language utterances in “Before I Fall”
movie script (2017)
The response to the directive language utterances in “Before I Fall” movie script (2017)provides various responses from the addressee. The author found 3 types of responses in the movie. The number of the response data in the appendix table was made same with the number of the directive language function data to easy identify the types of the directive language functions in the 3 forms of directive functions responses.Those 3 types responses are addressee‟s responses is in line to the addresser‟s intentions, responses is not in line to the addresser‟s intentions, and the response that cannot be identified whether it referred to the addresser‟s intentions or not.
2.1 Response which is in line to the addresser‟s intentions
Ally : “I'm gonna try not to be depressed because I'm single on Cupid Day.”
(walk to the car)
Linds : “That's Valentine's Day to you!” (scream to Ally)
Ally : “Do you have insomnia or something, Linds? (sit behind in the car and ask Lindsay, hold a cup of drink in her hand.)
Linds : “Excuseme? What” (while focusing in driving,need an explanation about Ally‟s statement)
Ally : “It's just cute that you get up before us and get breakfast.”
55 Context:
The phrase "Excusme?" is a response to the words of his friend (Ally) is less clear. Then, the response was the utterance in the following utterance. It was spoken by Ally. It happened in the school when Lindsay and friends were talking each other in the Cupid Day. It was taboo in a girl to be virgin in the Cupid Day.
Reason:
It was in line to the speaker intentions because the utterance was to let the addressee give more explanations about what was unclear in the conversations. The utterance “It's just cute that you get up before us and get breakfast” was the response to explain the unclear utterance.
2.2 Response which is not in line to the addresser‟s intentions
Father : “Well, I'll let you know by noon. Well, I can't organize a play date before...
Mather : “Mmm.. But I can‟t recognize it well ….”
Father : “Dear.. You want something to eat?” (stand up and offering a food ) Sam : “No. I'm good.” (take the sweater in the chair and go away)
Context:
This expression was used in the morning before Sam left for school. As a father in general who offers food to her daughter hopes that her daughter would eat breakfast before leaving for school. However, Sam did not take the breakfast and just went to the yard of the house to meet her friend to immediately go to school. Then, Sam did not take the breakfast, itwas not because of the way father gave an impolite direction. It was viewed from the way it was conveyed, the intonationwasfalling intonation which was shown that he hoped her daughter to take the breakfast. The

facial expressions revealed by Father's character did not show rude, disrespectful attitude, and with a calming force her daughter to have the breakfast. This word was immediately responded by Sam. It meant that the utterance made the other person do an action, this utterance made Sam leaves the kitcthen immediately.
Reason:
She refused to be served breakfast. The refusement was Sam‟s actions after her father uttered the utterance. She left home and immediately went to school. She did not take the breakfast, even her father offered her.
2.3 Response which cannot be identified whether in line to the addresser‟s intentions or not
Kent : “A huge rager, you know. Why don't you come, yeah?”
Sam : “I don't know what my plans are, like, what everyone else ends up doing...”
Kent : “So, I'll see you tonight.”
Sam : “I don't think so.”
Kent : “Yeah? You know the address.”
Sam : “No. Kent...”
Kent : “Smooth.”
Context:
"Um, big party tonight. Mom is going out of town" and "I'll see you tonight"were
Kent's invitation to get Sam to attend a party that Kent hosts tonight.It was told in the school.
They conducted the conversations while walking to go home. Kent really wanted to make Sam attend to his party. It was to persuade Sam to make sure tonight she would be at the party. It was said to stress the condition tonight that he would see her in hisparty.
In other words, it was to influence Sam to meet her at night in his party. Sam then ignored and left Kent with her bad expression. Her face was not smile, even glum.
57 Reason:
Sam never said yes that she would come to the party. She left Kent immediately without whosing her agree and disagrrements statements or expressions.
B. Discussions
Sentences that had functions as the directives could be reflected in the "Before I Fall" movie. Those motions could be seen from the results of the data collection.
From the data that had been analysed, there were 4 types of directive functions found.
Those data were the directive questions, requests, orders, and hints. Those directive language functions were separated based on the intentions of the utterance in the data collections and the types of the sentences from the data.
The directive questions were separated into two types. It wasbased on the form of the questions such as the “Yes/No Questions” and “5W+1H Questions”. Requests were separated into 3 types. Those data were the direct requests, the implicit requests, and the introgative request sentences.In the requests data collections, the researcher found declarative sentences and the other types of sentences. But, most of them were refers to the direct and the implicit request sentences. The similar things happened too in the orders data Colections. By considering the variations of the orders data collection, the resercher found many Prohibitions. Then, the reseracher

decided to devide the data collection into 4 types. Those wereprohibitions, direct order sentences, implicit order sentences, and the introgative order sentences.
