5.2 Recommendations for future study
5.2.4 Slab stiffness contribution
Many studies demonstrate the behavior and effectiveness of an outrigger-braced system, but they do not consider the stiffness of the floor members that link the central core and the perimeter columns at the typical tower floors. Slab stiffness contributes a significant amount of stiffness to the structure, which might eventually provide double the stiffness to the structure without the inclusion of slab stiffness. However, to include slab stiffness, the effective second moment of are, Ieff, of the slab must be carefully identified in terms of considering the detailing of reinforcement and the different stages in the building life cycle.
