This Software Release Announcement is part of the Business Information Server system library. The following documentation is available to help you use Business Information Server software. The way you use the software determines which documents you need.
For example, if you are an experienced scriptwriter or manual function user, you need only refer to the Command Reference for complete descriptions, formats, and examples of the system commands. However, if you are configuring and administering a Business Information Server system, you may need to refer to several documents.
The following documents are included with Business Information Server for Microsoft Windows. Refer to the Business Information Server Documentation program group for current information about Business Information Server commands, statements, and system concepts.
Business Information Server for Microsoft Windows Administration Help (7846 0284)
This Help provides direction for BIS system administrators. It includes information about system configuration, database management, user and run registration, configuration of communications links with other BIS systems, and day-to-day administration activities.
Business Information Server for Microsoft Windows Installation Help (7850 2671)
This Help describes the pre-installation requirements for installing BIS for Microsoft Windows on your Windows system, how to upgrade and convert from previous levels, how to install a new BIS for Windows system, and how to install optional workstation components (clients).

This reference provides descriptions, formats, and examples for BIS commands, including manual functions, statements, and many of the released BIS scripts.
• Developer’s Guide (7850 2341)
This guide contains information about Business Information Server (BIS) script design. It discusses language basics including BIS statement syntax, use of variables, reserved words, constants, and math operators. The Developer’s Guide also lists BIS language statements grouped by task. Finally, it provides detailed application development guidelines, explains graphical user interface design techniques, and describes system library routines.
• User’s Guide (7850 2358)
This guide contains basic information about using BIS. It presents an overview of the BIS database structure, details about getting started on the system, instructions for communicating requests to the system, and information about BIS security.

Business Information Server Resource Adapter for the JavaTM Platform Developer's Guide (3839 6529)
This guide describes how to deploy, develop, and use the Business Information Server Resource Adapter, which is a standards-based Java interface into Business Information that opens up BIS data and scripts to stand-alone Java applications and Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE™ ) components such as Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs), and servlets.
Business Information Server JavaScript Developer's Help (6891 8960) This Help describes the Business Information Server (BIS) implementation of the JavaScript language as well as general JavaScript reference information. BIS JavaScript provides extension objects that you can use to write JavaScript scripts that can perform key BIS statement functions against BIS data. JavaScript scripts can be called as subroutines from a Business Information Server script or executed as standalone applications.
Business Information Server Developer Workshop Help (6891 8952) This help document introduces the Business Information Server (BIS) Developer Workshop integrated development environment (IDE) to BIS programmers. It explains how to create new projects, scripts, and data reports or add existing projects, scripts, and data reports to the Developer Workshop environment. The BIS Graphical Environment provides a practical point-and-click interface to many common data access, ad-hoc reporting, and user administration tasks. This context-sensitive help provides information on creating new reports or accessing existing reports in the database. It also provides information on processing, updating, and analyzing report data.

This Help introduces the ODBC Server feature and describes how to create the proper
Internet Commerce Enabler Technical Overview (7850 2473)
This overview provides conceptual information and describes a development process for building Web-based applications with the Internet Commerce Enabler. It also explains the interrelationship among the various components.
Internet Commerce Enabler Developer’s Reference (7850 2465) This reference provides the information a developer needs to create either native scripted services, open scripted services based on Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP), or data services to support dynamic Web sites.
iceDrill User Help and iceDrill Administration Help
iceDrill is a tool you can use to display your enterprise data in a dynamic, browser-based format. iceDrill provides an additional way to expose and integrate enterprise data in Web presentations and applications developed with the Internet Commerce Enabler. It allows your internal and external customers to view and interact with information from a variety of data sources.

This Help provides procedural information supporting iceDrill end user tasks such as performing searches, calculating data, and formatting tables.
• iceDrill Administration Help (6885 2789)
This Help provides information about iceDrill administrative tasks, such as defining the look and feel of iceDrill tables, enabling and disabling user functions, managing fields and field functions, and managing table security and user access.
ICE Admin Help (7850 2523)
This Help provides the information an administrator needs to configure and maintain applications. It assumes the administrator has the skills and training to maintain both the Web site on which Internet Commerce Enabler is installed and the associated server.
Component Builder Help (7850 2531)
This Help provides overview and procedural information supporting the Internet Commerce Enabler Component Builder application screens. The procedures cover the major Component Builder tasks and use of the XML Mapping Tool.
Gateway Configuration Tool Help (7850 2598)
These Help topics present procedural information explaining how to set up and manage gateways, configurations, and connection pools for Web applications created with the Internet Commerce Enabler.

To order Business Information Server for Microsoft Windows level 10.1, contact your Unisys account manager or a Unisys authorized reseller of Unisys Business Information Server software. To place an order, have the following information ready:
• Your customer number (if you have one)
• Consolidated agreement number (if you have one)
• Software product and style you want to order (refer to the tables in Section 3)
• Your company purchase order number (if required)
Note: The Business Information Server for Windows level 10.1 CD-ROM includes both software and documentation. You do not have to order documentation separately.
