A SSOCIATE IN H EALTH S CIENCE : M AJOR IN N URSING (ADN)
Nurses are the frontline providers in health care. Nurses practice in virtually all health care settings and communities across the nation. Nurses rank as the country’s largest health care profession and their professional commitment runs deep. The nursing profession offers men and women diverse careers. Experienced nurses are in demand and can enjoy a wide range of job opportunities in hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory care, home health, occupational health and schools.
Aiken Technical College offers a seamless career ladder program offering you the opportunity to advance your education from one level to the next. Our program offers two levels of career opportunities. The basic program consists of fi ve semesters of sequenced classroom and clinical instruction. Students completing that program will earn an Associate Degree in Health Science, Major in Nursing and be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX- RN) which will allow them to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN). Student who opt out after the completion of the fi rst three semesters, will earn a Diploma in Nursing and will be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) which is required to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Academic Standards
Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or above in all nursing (NUR) courses to progress in the program. A grade of “C” or above is required in all other courses. Required courses may be repeated only one time to qualify for admission to the program or to continue in the program if currently enrolled. Prior to beginning clinical experiences in the nursing programs, students must have current CPR certifi cation, medical professional liability insurance (included in tuition), a physical examination, all required immunizations, Hepatitis B vaccine series and a TB skin test. Students applying to nursing programs are required to have completed a criminal background check and show no record of convictions to be considered for admission to the program. Only criminal background checks conducted through the College will be accepted. Students will be charged an additional fee at the time of registration. Conviction of a crime (other than a minor traffi c violation) could make the student ineligible to take the licensing exam required by the profession upon graduation.
Students will be required to participate in off-campus training in working clinical facilities; therefore, students will need reliable transportation, since assigned clinical sites are off campus.
