STEERING BRACKET KIT INSTALLATION (ABA-42110-00-00)

In document Yamaha_us Rig.guide 2001 (Page 102-107)

Please completely read and understand these installation instructions (prior to installation) to avoid damage to the outboard motor, boat or accessory.

Kit Includes:

1 Steering Cable Mounting Bracket 1 Steering Cable Support Tube 2 Adjustment Nut

2 Locking Tab Washer 1 Bushing

1 Seal

1 Cable Connector 2 Self-locking Nut, 3/8"

3 Flat Washer, 3/8"

4 Mounting Bolt

NOTE: Both gear racks or rotary steering heads must be installed so both steering cables will be routed together on the same side of the boat and will push-pull together. (See Illus. 1)

Steering Arm Installation

1. Install the steering arm to the motor tiller arm using the inner (rearmost) bolt hole, and torque to specification. Be sure to use the lock nut, as shown in the rigging specifica-tions. (See Illus. 2)

2. Assemble the cable connector onto the steer-ing arm, as shown in Illustration 3.

NOTE: DO NOT tighten installation together at this time.

*Flat washers and lock nut come with steering arm.

Steering Cable Installation Cables 1 and 2

1. Lubricate the inside of the engine tilt tube, the inside of the steering cable support tube and the output end of the cable with a coat of Yamaha Marine Grease. Install steering cable Number 1 into the engine tile tube and tight-en the holding nut. (See Illus. 4)

2. Install the bracket onto the mounting boss, with the four (4) mounting bolts provided, and torque to 100in-lbs. (See Illus. 5)

3. Slip the large support tube nut and locking tab washer over cable Number 2. Apply a coat of Yamaha Marine Grease to the cable end. Insert the cable through the mounting bracket holes without the support tube

4. Install the support tube onto the extended portion of cable Number 2 and through only one hole in the mounting bracket. Slide the second large nut and the locking tab washer over the end of the cable and onto the support tube a few turns. Slide the nylon bearing and rod seal onto the cable, but not into the steer-ing tube at this time. (See Illus. 7)

STEERING CABLE

5. Carefully spread both cables to allow instal-lation of the cable connector, but do not tight-en at this time. (See Illus. 8)

6. Fully install the support tube to the mounting bracket with the second large nut and locking tab washer. Position the starboard end of the support tube so it is approximately even to the starboard end of the tilt tube. (See Illus.

9)

7. Tighten the cable number 2 support tube nuts at this time, as well as the cable holding nut.

8. Tighten the three (3) cable connector nuts, torquing to 120in-lbs. Then, back nuts off 1/4 turn. (See Illus. 8)

9. Insert the nylon sleeve into the steering tube and slide the rod seal onto the end of the sup-port tube. (See Illus. 7)

Cable Adjustment 1. Center the motor.

2. Loosen the support tube holding nuts (both ends) approximately 10 turns.

3. Take up any play in the cables by pushing the motor slightly in the direction of a turn to starboard.

4. Tighten the port support tube nut finger tight, then one additional turn past that, using a wrench.

5. Tighten the starboard support tube nut to 35ft-lbs., and bend the locking tabs on the locking tab washers over onto the mounting bracket or nut, as shown in Illus. 9.

V4 & V6 RIGGING TUBE GROMMET (MAR-GROMM-ET-02)

Installation Instructions:

1. Prior to installing grommet, pass all cables, fuel/oil lines and electrical harnesses through the rigging hose that has been previously cut to length.

2. Be sure all items move freely inside the hose and no kinks occur in the fuel and oil lines.

3. Pass all items through the threaded end side of the grommet. Do not install onto the hose at this time.

4. Finish installing the engine, and attach all harnesses, cables and hoses to their proper locations as prescribed in the Yamaha Rigging Guide.

5. Place a bead of silicone sealant (not a poly-sulfide based product) onto the bottom side of the grommet where it seats into the lower pan.

6. Apply another bead on top of the grommet, prior to installing the retainer, then tighten the 2 retaining screws and removed any excess sealant. Note: Both the stainless angle bracket and rubber grommet (previously removed) will not be reused.

7. Prior to threading on the hose, do a final check of all hose and cable routing. If you are using a threaded transom plate, thread the rig-ging tube into it first.

8. On the engine grommet side, apply a small bead of silicone sealant to the first few threads of the hose and install. Remember the thread is left hand so you will rotate the hose to the left, (facing the front of the engine). Thread the rigging tube into the grommet until it seats.

IMPORTANT! After installation, be sure to check for any contact of the grommet to the boat's transom or bracket. This is done by tilt-ing fully and turntilt-ing the engine from star-board to port to be sure that no contact occurs.

A broken grommet will allow water intrusion into the engine and could lead to engine dam-age or failure.

New rigging tube grommet for V4 & V6.

Optional

For model year 2001, Yamaha has expanded the model line-up that come standard with the rigging grommet that was offered in 2000 for the HPDI and F115 engines. The F80/F100, all V-4 and V-6 models have received this change.
