Edit Menu
Configuration
ThisallowsyoutomodifytheDataProtectionforExchangeconfiguration file.Ifaconfigurationfileisnotspecified,thetdpexc.cfgfileisused.Ifno configurationfileisfound,a defaultfileiscreated whichcontains allthe defaultsettingsfortheparameters.Adifferentconfigurationfilecanbe specifiedbyinvokingtheGUIfromthecommandlinewith the/configfile parameter.
ClickingthismenuitemdisplaystheDataProtectionforExchangeSettings dialogwith thefollowingfivetabsandtheirsettings:
v GeneralTab
TemporaryLogRestorePath
Enterthedefaulttemporarypathtousewhenrestoringlogsand patchfiles.Forbestperformance,thepathspecifiedshouldbe ona differentphysicaldevicethanthecurrentactivelogger.If youchoosetonotenterapath,thedefaultisthevalue ofthe TEMPenvironmentvariable.Whenperformingfull, copy,or database copyrestores,alllogfilesresidinginthespecifiedpath are erased.
Note: Donotspecifydouble-bytecharacters(DBCS)within the temporarylogpath.ThisisnotsupportedbyData ProtectionforExchangeor Microsoft.
WaitforTapeMountsforBackuporRestore
Check thisboxwhenyouwantData Protectionfor Exchangeto wait fortapemedia tobemountedforbackupandrestore operations.ThissettingisapplicablewhentheTivoliStorage Manager serverisconfiguredtostore thebackupdataontape media. Withbackupdataonremovablemediait islikelythat during backupandrestoreoperationsa waitperiodwilloccur during storagevolume mounts.Ifawaitoccursthissetting specifies whetherDataProtectionforExchangeshouldwaitfor themedia mountorstopthecurrentoperation.Wait fortape mounts isthedefault.
UseVSSBackupasthedefaultBackupmethod
Check thisboxtoset VSSBackupsasthedefaultbackup method.Be awareofthefollowingconsiderationswhenusing this parameter:
– MakesuretheLocal DSMAGENTNodenameparameteris specified.
– VSSBackupscanonlyberestored usingVSS.
– YoucannotmixaVSSBackupwith aLegacybackup.
– ThisparameterisunavailableiftheMicrosoftExchangeVSS IntegrationModuleisnotinstalled.
Thedefaultvalue istousetheLegacybackupmethod.

Specify theTivoli StorageManager nodename(agentnode)of theremoteclientmachine thatmovestheVSSdatafromlocal shadow volumesto TivoliStorageManager serverstorage during off-loadedbackups.

Refreshtreeview
Whenthetreeisrefreshed,theGUIwill:

IfyousimplymovebackandforthbetweentheBackupand Restoretabs withoutrefreshing,youdonotlosethecurrentselectionsorTreeView.If youswitchfromtheRestoretabtotheBackuptab, performa newbackup, then switchbacktotheRestoretab,youmustrefreshtheRestoredirectory treetoseethenewbackup.

Auto Select
Selectthis optiontoquicklyselectthebackupobjectstorestore.When Auto Selectisoff,youmust clickonallobjectstobe restored.WhenAuto Selectison(thedefaultvalue),additionalselectionsareautomatically madeasyouclick.
ThefollowingischaracteristicofAuto Select:
v Operateswhenyouclickonafull, differential,orincrementalbackupin theListView.Auto Selectalsooperateswhenyouclickonastorage group orservernameintheTreeView.
v Ignores copyanddatabase copybackups.
v If youclickona fullbackup, thelatestassociateddifferentialorall associated incrementalbackupsareselected.
v If youclickona differentialbackup,theassociatedfullbackupisalso selected.
v If youclickonanincremental backup,theassociatedfullbackupand all associated earlierincrementalbackupsare alsoselected.
v Operateswhenyoudeselectafull, differential,incremental,storage group,orservername.
Auto Selectwillnotmakeadditionalselectionsinthefollowingtwo situations:
v If acombinationofdifferentialandincremental backupsexistfora full backup. forexample,ifyouclickedona fullbackupthathadassociated incremental anddifferentialbackups,onlythefullbackupisselected.
v If adifferentialorincrementalbackupisselectedandnoassociatedfull backupcanbefound.
Tooverride thecharacteristicsofAutoSelect,deselecttheAutoSelect option andmanuallyselectwhatyouneed.
Utilities Menu
Change TSMPassword
Thisdialogpromptsyoutoentertheoldpassword,thenenterthenew passwordtwice,inordertoverifythenew password.See

HighlightingandSelecting
v WhenanitemishighlightedintheTree,informationaboutalltheitemsone levelunderthehighlighteditemisdisplayedintheListView.For example,if a StorageGroup ishighlightedintheRestoreTree,allTivoliStorageManager backupsforthatStorageGroup aredisplayedintheListView.
v Thefollowinglistcontains exception
– IftheSite,Organization,orDomainnameishighlightedintheBackupTree, informationabouttheSite,Organization,orDomain,Exchangeserver,and versionlevelaredisplayed intheListView.
– IftheInformationStoreitemishighlightedintheBackupTree,theListView displays statusforallStorageGroups.
– IftheservernameishighlightedintheRestoreTree,theListViewdisplays all StorageGroupsandtheirbackups(indentedundertheStorageGroup).
v HighlightingtheListViewhasnoeffect.
v Toselectanitemforbackuporrestore,clickonthesquareselectionboxtothe leftoftheitemname. Clickingona selectionboxintheTreewillalsohighlight thatitem,displayingassociatedinformationintheListView.
v Double-clickingonaselectionboxintheTreewillselectthatitemand collapse orexpandtheTreeat thatpoint.AnitemcanbeselectedfromboththeTreeand theListView.
v Ifaselectionboxcontainsan ″X″,theselectionisdisabledforthatitem.You maystillbeable tobackuporrestoretheitem. Forexample,ifa StorageGroup itemhasadisabledselectionboxintheTreeandall theListViewitemsalso havedisabled selectionboxes, thenthose itemscannotbe selectedforbackupor restore.Thiscanhappenonlyif youhaveanemptyTivoliStorageManager serverfilespace. Messages
Pleasebeaware ofthefollowingIMPORTANTmessages whenperformingbackup orrestore operations:
v SelectingmultipleCopy, Full,orDatabaseCopybackups,oranycombinationof thesebackups,forrestore,a warningmessagewillask youifyouwantto continue.Ifyoucontinue,allbackupswillberestoredbutonlythelatestbackup willtakeaffect.Allthetimespentrestoringtheearlierbackupswillbewasted.
v Whenyourequesta backuptobe restored,DataProtectionforExchangewill firstcheck tomakesureanydatabaseshavebeendismounted.Iftheyhavenot,
youwillbepromptedtostop themorcanceltherestore.Aftera restore,youcan checktheMountDatabasesAfterRestore option,ormountthemfromoutside DataProtectionforExchange.
GUI Tasks
How to perform a Legacy Backup
ThisprocedureassumesthatData ProtectionforExchangeand theTivoliStorage Manager serverareproperlyconfigured inyourenvironment.SeeChapter3,
“ConfiguringData Protectionfor Exchange,”onpage27fordetailedinstructions onhow toconfiguretheseapplications.Youmusthavelocalregistryrights(forall versions ofExchangeServer)toperform aData ProtectionforExchangebackup.
Followthese stepstoperform aLegacybackupofyourdata:
1. StarttheDataProtectionforExchangeGUI.Ifyouare runningData Protection forExchangeina MSCS:
Notes:
a. Ifyouare backinguptheSiteReplicationService(SRS), youmust initialize theSRSdatabase throughtheclusteradministrator. TheSRSmust be runningin ordertobebackedup.
b. YouMUSTinvoke theGUIwith the/excserverparameterfromtheData ProtectionforExchangecommandline.
NotethatifyouarebackinguptheKeyManagementService(KMS),theKMS must berunninginordertobebackedup.
2. From theTreeView,selectoneormorestorage groupstobackup.Youcanalso selectoneormorestoragegroupstobackupintheListView.Notethatyou cannotbackupmore thanoneapplication (SRS,KMS,IS)inasingle operation.
3. IntheBackupOptionssection oftheBackupwindow,selecttheLegacyBackup method.
4. Specifythetype ofbackuptoperform withtheBackupTypedrop-down menu.
Notethatyoucannotperforma databasecopyofanSRSorKMSdatabase.
5. ClickontheBackupbuttontobeginthebackupoperation.
How to perform a VSS Backup
ThisprocedureassumesthatData ProtectionforExchange,theTivoliStorage Manager backup-archiveclient,theTivoliStorageManagerserver,theMicrosoft ExchangeVSSIntegrationModule,and aVSSorVDSproviderareproperly configured inyourenvironment.SeeChapter3,“ConfiguringDataProtectionfor Exchange,” onpage27fordetailedinstructionsonhow toconfigurethese applications.Youmust havelocalregistryrights(forallversions ofExchange Server) toperforma DataProtectionforExchangebackup.
Followthese stepstoperform aVSSBackupofyour data:
1. StarttheDataProtectionforExchangeGUI.Ifyouare runningData Protection forExchangeina MSCS,youMUSTinvoketheGUIwith the/excserver parameterfromtheData ProtectionforExchangecommandline.
2. Makesurea LocalDSMAGENT Nodenameisspecified.Youcanspecifythis nodenameusingtheData Protectionfor ExchangeSettingswindow.Fromthe FileMenu,clickonEdit ->Configuration->VSSBackupTab.
3. From theTreeView,selectoneormorestorage groupstobackup.Youcanalso selectoneormorestoragegroupstobackupintheListView.
4. IntheBackupOptionssection oftheBackupwindow,selecttheVSSBackup method.Notethatthismethodwillautomaticallybe selectedwhentheUse VSSasthedefault BackupmethodparameterisselectedintheData Protection forExchangeSettingswindow.IftheMicrosoftExchangeVSSIntegration Moduleisnotinstalled,theVSSBackupmethod isnotavailable.
5. Specifythestoragedestination ofyourbackupwiththeBackupDestination drop-down menu.
6. Specifythetype ofbackuptoperform withtheBackupTypedrop-down menu.
Notethatyoucanonlyperformafull, copy,orcopywithoutintegritycheck backupwiththeVSSBackupmethod.
7. ClickontheBackupbuttonto beginthebackupoperation.
How to perform a VSS Off-loaded Backup
An off-loadedbackupusesanalternatemachine(specifiedwith theRemote DSMAGENT Nodeparameter)tomoveExchangedatatoTivoliStorageManager serverstorage.Thismayhelpreducenetwork,I/O,andCPU resourcesassociated with theproductionmachine frombeingimpactedduring backupprocessing. It also usesthealternatemachine toperformtheExchangeIntegrityCheck.
