After you finish writing and drawing, you can save or clear your notes. If you mistakenly clear your notes, you can restore them.

Saving your notes
If a program is non-Aware, whatever you write or draw on your interactive product’s screen appears on a transparent layer (sometimes referred to as an ink layer) over the current program. You can take a screen capture of your notes and the program.

N O T EYou can also customize the transparent layer to automatically save your notes (see
Customizing the transparent layerbelow).
g To take a screen capture of your notes
PressScreen Capture in the upper right corner of the screen. Each screen capture appears as an image in a file.

N O T EIf you want to save your notes but you don’t want to take a screen capture of the entire screen, you can take a screen capture of an area or a window using the Screen Capture toolbar (see Using the Screen Capture toolbar).
Customizing the transparent layer
If a program is non-Aware, whatever you write or draw on your interactive product’s screen appears over the current program on a transparent layer (sometimes referred to as an ink layer). Depending on your settings, this transparent layer can be surrounded by a border and can include
Clear,Screen CaptureandClosebuttons in its upper right corner.
g To customize the transparent layer
1. Pick up a pen tray pen.
A transparent layer appears over the current program.
2. Right-click, and then selectInk Layer Optionsin the menu that appears. TheInk Layer Settingsdialog box appears.
o To display the transparent layer without a border, clear theShow border around
ink layercheck box.
o When you clear all notes from the transparent layer, a message appears in the lower
right corner of your screen. You can press this message to restore your notes. To prevent this message from appearing, clear theAllow pop-up balloon messages
check box.
o To display the transparent layer without theScreen Capture,ClearorClose
buttons in the upper right corner, clear theShow the Screen Capture, Clear and Close buttonscheck box.
o If you write or draw on the screen, and then left-click, a menu appears. You can
select options from this menu to save your notes, clear your notes and close the transparent layer, and more. If you want to disable this menu, selectClose ink layer with pointer. If you select this option, you can left-click to clear your notes and close the transparent layer, and the menu doesn’t appear.
o If you want to automatically save your notes, selectAlways Save Ink. If you select
this option, a screen capture of your notes and the program appear on a new page in a .notebook file when you close the transparent layer.
4. PressOK.
Closing the transparent layer
If a program is non-Aware, whatever you write or draw on your interactive product’s screen appears on a transparent layer over the current program. You can close the transparent layer at any time.

Restoring cleared notes
If you mistakenly clear all notes from your interactive product’s screen, you can restore them. You can also restore notes if you close the transparent layer without saving your notes.
g To restore notes after you clear them
Open the Floating Tools toolbar (see Showing, hiding and moving the Floating Tools toolbar), and then pressUndo .
g To restore notes after you close the transparent layer
A thumbnail appears in the lower-right corner of the screen for approximately five seconds after you clear your notes.
Press the thumbnail image.
