What is an extinct language?
• Extinct language - a language once in
use, but is no longer spoken or read (there are 1,000’s of these)
– Biggest killer: globalization

languages-• Used to be 500 languages in the Amazon in
1500s, only about 92 exist today
• Gothic was spoken all over E and N Europe in 3rd
