Dear Parents,

Thank you for selecting Darling Range Sports College as the educational institution for your child/ren. With the large numbers now attending the College, we have endeavoured to make the commencement of the school year as smooth as possible.

This letter outlines important information you will need to know for the commencement of the 2016 school year.

1. CHANGE OF SUBJECTS

If you have queries on subject selections there will be an opportunity at a future date in Term 1 to have them reviewed. Students will be notified when this will occur. In this situation, part payment of the Contributions and Charges can be made until your queries are rectified and an amended account will be forwarded to you.

2. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS AND COMPULSORY CHARGES

Attached is your voluntary contributions and compulsory charges invoice for 2016. Payment of these charges goes directly to assisting the delivery of the curriculum to all students therefore your cooperation in making a prompt payment is appreciated. In addition, where charges have not been paid, students may not be permitted to participate in activities such as the school ball, reward excursions, sports college tours or any other event subsidised by the school.

SCHOOL COUNCIL APPROVED VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

2.1 P&C Contributions - $10.00

The P&C Association welcomes your support at its monthly meetings and invites you to contribute towards its fund which is used to assist the education of students at the College.

2.2 Chaplaincy - $5.00

This contribution is to provide some financial assistance for the employment of a Chaplain and Nurse on site at the College.

3. METHOD OF PAYMENT

3.1 The preferred method of payment is by direct deposit. The details are: Account Name: Darling Range Sports College

BSB: 066-177 Account No: 10035232

Please send a remittance to [email protected].

3.2 Payments can also be made in person via credit card, cash or cheque. If paying by cheque, please ensure your child’s name, your name and phone number are on the reverse side.

3.3 Payment by Instalment – For families wishing to pay school fees by instalment, an application form is attached. Families are free to set their own rate of payment. Voluntary contributions and compulsory charges are essential to provide the resources and consumables used by all students.

The school will be open on Wednesday 27 January to Friday 29 January from 8.30am until 4.30pm for parents wishing to pay contributions and charges

4. SCHOOL UNIFORM

The College uniform shop has been outsourced and will be run by Tudor Uniforms from the beginning of 2016. All students must wear the logo‟d College uniform every day.

The uniform shop will be open prior to the start of Term 1 on the following days

Wednesday 27 January 2016 8.30am to 11.30am

Thursday 28 January 2016 1.30pm to 4.30pm

Friday 29 January 2016 1.30pm to 4.30pm

Please refer to the Important Uniform Information letter which outlines all opening times and the online ordering process.

5. STATIONERY ITEMS

Attached is a list of stationery items required for 2016. All students will need to purchase these for personal use.

A calculator is essential for Mathematics courses. If you require a calculator, please complete the enclosed order form and return to Abacus. Delivery will be made at the commencement of the 2016 school year.

Teachers will not issue books and materials provided by the subject departments unless payment has been made to the school or arrangements made with the Business Manager.

6. BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE

Access to technology is vital in a future-focused learning environment and we have a strong and ongoing commitment to 21st century teaching and learning excellence.

It is for this reason that we have, as have schools across Western Australia, implemented a Bring your Own Device (BYOD) program for all Year 7-9 students. The BYOD initiative encourages students to bring their own notebook/tablet to school each day. Students in other year groups will also be encouraged to participate. See the enclosed information sheet outlining more information and minimum specifications required.

7. SECONDARY ASSISTANCE SCHEME

Please find enclosed a Secondary Assistance application form. If you are eligible to claim, please complete the form and return as soon as possible to the College together with a current card.

Closing date for applications is 8 April 2016.

8. SMART RIDER APPLICATIONS

You can apply for your child‟s smartrider card at www.monitorwa.com.au/smartrider/default.html.

9. STUDENT HOSTS

The College has a program where students gain clerical work experience by being „host‟ students for a day. A „host‟ student performs duties such as clerical duties, running messages to classrooms and other duties as required by Administration. Students will be required to participate in any tests or assessments due on their rostered day, or attend any pre-arranged activities. A replacement Host will be organised if the student is absent from school.

It is important that you advise us if you do not wish your child to participate.

The beginning of the year is a very busy time for all and your cooperation in the above matters is appreciated.

Should you have any queries regarding the above information, please contact the BusinessManager on 9453 0100.

Yours sincerely

Brian Bowen Business Manager 5 February 2016
