The Qseven™ Rev. 2.0 starter kit is a complete, ready-to-run environment for modules designed to the new Revision 2.0 of the Qseven™ standard, and particularly for MSC Technolo-gies’ new Qseven™ modules with Intel® Atom™ processor E3800 (previously “Bay Trail”) based Q7-BT modules. DisplayPort, SATA and UART interfaces
The starter kit features the company’s new Qseven™ Rev. 2.0 application carrier board MSC Q7-MB-EP6 which gives access to most of the module’s key features such as USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI, DisplayPort, SATA and UART inter-faces. Furthermore, the board adds a second GbE LAN in-terface to the one provided by the Qseven™ module, and also features SD, mSATA and miniPCIexpress card slots as well as TFT backlight control. The kit also comprises a power supply and an efficient heatsink for the Q7-BT module family, as well as an extensive “Getting Started” manual. Using the starter kit, the new Qseven™ Rev. 2.0 modules based on the Intel® Atom™ E3800 family can be operational within minutes of receiving the kit.
Customers can select the type of Q7-BT module variant to be used with the starter kit. MSC Technologies is offering a number of modules which are providing a distinct advan-tage for users of Microsoft® Windows® in featuring a SATA SSD device for flash storage soldered on the module.

The MSC CXC-BT COM Express™ Type 2 module family integrates a latest Intel® Atom™ E3800 processor (code named "Bay Trail“). With Type 2 pin-out of the COM Ex-press™ specification, the modules offer "legacy" interfaces like PATA and PCI bus and thus can replace products with processors and chipsets which are being discontinued by Intel. These are modules with Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processors and Intel® Atom™ N270 processors with Intel® 945 chipset or with Intel® Atom™ Z Series processors with US15W chipset. Can be delivered for an extended temperature range Today, the MSC CXC-BT COM Express™ Type 2 platform is offered with quad, dual or single-core Intel® Atom™ processor or Intel® Celeron™ processor with four CPU cores. All Intel® Atom™ processor based modules can be delivered on request for an extended temperature range.
The embedded modules in the compact form factor of 95 x 95 mm offer a broad range of interfaces like PCI bus (32 bit), up to eight USB 2.0, LPC, 4 x PCI Express™ x1 lanes Gen. 2.0 and Gbit Ethernet. There are two SATA (up to 3 Gb/s) ports or alternatively one PATA and one SATA interface. Furthermore, a socket for a microSD card is available. The MSC C10M-BT COM Express™ Type 10 Mini module family is available in seven different Intel® Atom™ and Intel® Celeron™ processor variants with four, two or one core. The on-chip Intel® Gen. 7 HD Graphics has a signifi-cantly improved 2D and 3D graphics and supports DirectX® 1.1, OpenGL 3.2, OpenCL™ 1.1 and a flexible HD video decoding hardware.
Offers a broad range of modern interfaces
The Mini module with a size of 55 x 84 mm is suited for applications in rough environments. All components including the 4 GB DDR3 DRAM memory and the option-al eMMC storage are soldered. The COM Express™ board is specified for an extended operating temperature range of -40 to +85 °C. To increase the robustness, the board offers an optional memory error correction that delivers a high level of data integrity, reliability, and system uptime. The module’s high reliability is augmented by the proces-sor’s virtualization capability and built-in security engine. The compact module family offers a broad range of modern interfaces like 1 x USB 3.0, up to 7 x USB 2.0, 3 x PCIe x1 Gen. 2.0, Gbit Ethernet, HD audio, LPC, DDI, LCD, and two SATA-300 channels. Optionally, the board is equipped with up to 16GB eMMC storage for booting or data.

With Type 2 pin-out compliant to the COM Express™ speci-fication, the powerful MSC CXB-8S COM Express™ module family based on 4th generation Intel® Core™ processors (code named "Haswell") offers "legacy" interfaces like PATA and PCI bus. The platform can replace modules with chipsets which are being discontinued by Intel. These are boards with Intel® 945 on GM45 chipsets and Intel® Core™ 2 Duo or Intel® Atom™ N270 processors. Customers moving to one of the new platforms can benefit from the higher performance of the replacement modules and also extend the life time of their existing systems.
Two displays can be driven via LVDS and CRT
The module family in the Basic form factor of 95 x 125 mm offers USB 2.0 interfaces, LPC. Gbit Ethernet, the PCI bus (32 bit), six PCI Express™ x1 channels and a PCI Express™ graphics (PEG) x16 interface. Two independent displays can be driven via LVDS and CRT. Optionally, MSC can connect additional display interfaces to the PEG signals for the connection of a third independent display.
The MSC CXB-8S high-end modules are supplied with different 4th generation Intel® Core™ processors or cost-effective Intel® Celeron® processors depending on the customer's requirements.

MSC Technologies announces a nanoRISC® embedded pro-cessor module which is based on the Freescale i.MX6 System-on-Chip. Different members of the i.MX6 family of ARM Cortex-A9 processors, from single-core to quad-core, will be used resulting in an extremely wide range of usable performance. The new nanoRISC module based on these i.MX6 processors gives designers of target systems the opportunity to achieve different performance and price points by alternatively using the entry-level module or any of the higher-performance products, making use of the total hardware and software compatibility between them. Addition of Flash memory cards is possible
The MSC nanoRISC-IMX6 module can hold up to 4 GB of DDR3 DRAM, up to 4 GB of SLC NAND Flash and option-ally up to 64 GB eMMC Flash. A microSD card holder on the module enables the addition of Flash memory cards. The embedded module is fully compliant with the nanoRISC specification and provides for popular embedded I/O signals such as Ethernet, USB, CAN, UART, SPI, I2C and I2S audio. MSC provides Board Support Packages (BSPs) as well as Boot Loader, drivers and Operating System (OS) implemen-tations for Linux and Windows® Embedded Compact 7 (Android on request).

The first product from the new NanoServer® embedded sys-tems family N1-Q87 under the label DSM Computer integrates the Intel® Q87 Express desktop chipset and a fourth-genera-tion (desktop series) Intel® Core™ i3/i5/i7 processor with on-chip Intel® HD Graphics (e.g. HD4600). The fast DDR3 1600 SDRAM memory can be expanded to 16 GB.
Individual NanoServer® variants
The high performance Box PC is equipped with an IO Shield for the simple and flexible integration of different CPU boards in Mini ITX format. All models have the same housing footprint. The standard cover provided for the three avail-able installation heights NN, N1 and N2 has the objective to achieve a low housing price by maximizing the deployment of identical parts of the individual NanoServer® variants. Despite its small installation height of 79 mm, the compact NanoServer® N1-Q87 is ideal for CPUs from the price-optimized desktop series and offers a number of popular interfaces.

The Booksize B1-Q87 under the label DSM Computer is designed for applications sized between desktop comput-ers and industrial computcomput-ers, and is ideal for applications such database servers. Other target markets are digital signage, retail and gaming.
Increasing service life through passive cooling
The compact Box PC integrates a fourth-generation Intel® Core™ i5/i7 processor from the desktop series that is passive cooled and significantly cheaper than a comparable mobile CPU. Depending on the type, the Thermal Dissipa-tion Power (TDP) of the processors lies between 35 W and 45 W. Thanks to the passive cooling of the CPU, the service life of the computer system is increased significantly. The Intel® Q87 Express is deployed as desktop chipset. The two redundant fans installed in the Booksize PC ensure that the CPU continues to be cooled even after failure of one fan. The replaceable fan cartridge facilitates maintenance of the computer. The embedded system receives its power from an integrated AC power pack or alternatively via a Phoenix socket of the DC input.
A free PCI Express™ x16 slot for short cards allows the Booksize B1-Q87 to be expanded flexibly, e.g. with a graphic card. In addition, one 3.5 inch exchangeable plug-in unit and two removable SSDs/HDDs are present. As an alternative to the two removable SSDs/HDDs, the computer provides space for an internal SSD/HDD.

The compact DSM Computer Box IPC EN-A3 bases on the current Intel® Atom™ E3800 processor platform (code named "Bay Trail I Premium") and operates throughout the complete operating temperature range from 0 °C to 45 °C without requiring a fan. As low-cost entry-level model, the computer is ideal for a wide range of applications in the process plant engineering, power engineering, transport and logistics, as well as display control and gateway areas. Despite its compact construction of 200 x 200 x 51 mm, the EN-A3 embedded system provides many interfaces: two GigaBit LANs, one USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0, four serial connections, audio and an internal Serial ATA interface for a SATA II 300 device. The industrial PC is equipped with two graphic outputs that can be configured as VGA, DVI-D or DisplayPort (DP).
Compact construction with many interfaces
For data storage, the EN-A3 industrial computer includes a 30 GB mSATA SSD (Solid State Drive) or larger. Two mini PCI Express™ x1 slots are present internally on the CPU board, where one slot can be chosen as mini PCI Express™ x1 or mSATA. As an option, the system can also be equipped with a 2.5 inch SSD.

The broad range of Infinity® 19-inch industrial solutions under the label DSM Computer includes classic slot CPU systems and computers with integrated industrial main-board. The configuration variants include the housing dimensions, the processor and graphical power as well as the number and form of the slots and drives. To satisfy the wide range of requirements, many plug-in modules are available, such as removable frames for SATA hard disks (including RAID controller), Compact Flash installation frames and slimline DVDs. The complete roadmap covers 1 U, 2 U and 4 U rack systems with 303 to 508 mm installation depth. The robust IPCs can be installed in 19-inch cabinets (racks) or provided as stand-alone versions for deployment in harsh environments.

On request, all 19-inch systems, can be delivered with a DC power pack (12 V / 24 V / 48 V), and optionally also with a re-dundant power pack. Industrial-design graphical cards with long-term availability can also be supplied. Hardware RAID controllers are also available as an option.

AAEON introduces the slimmest product in the Boxer series, AEC-6402, which utilizes the Intel® Atom™ N2600 processor: this embedded controller expands its graph-ics performance greatly with the newest generation of Atom™ processors.
Fits in most rugged environment
So far, there is no other boxer PC can be so tiny and slim like AEC-6402, not even Pico-ITX system. With this tiny dimension form factor, customers can fit it almost every-where, and it provides quite a lot of I/O ports for basic applications. AEC-6402 adopts fanless design for high reli-ability to fit in most rugged environment. It also provides wireless communication features and it’s really conve-nient for customers to build up network connection at all locations and markets.
The AEC-6402 is a standalone high performance controller designed for long-life operation and with high reliability. It can replace traditional methods and become the main-stream controller for diversified markets.

MSC Technologies presents first samples of a Kyocera designed On-Cell module with an integrated PCap tech-nology. The 19,3 cm (7") wide TCG070WVLRxPCxGDx118 VGA engineering samples can be ordered with I²C or USB interface. There are two display variants available with a brightness of 350 cd/m² or alternatively of 800 cd/m². All products integrate a wide-view technology.
To increase the optical performance, displays based on the new On-Cell technology have no air gap between polarizer and touch. Touch and Controller are less dependent from both the LCD and the application environmental noise. Furthermore, the integration of the display module into a system is relatively easy.
Expanded temperature range of -20°C to +70°C
Expanding its Kyocera LCD portfolio, MSC Technologies offers the TCG121WXLPAPNN-AN20, a 30,7 cm (12.1") WXGA LCD module with a 16:10 widescreen format and a 1280 x 800-dot display. For demanding use in industrial applications, this display has an expanded temperature range of -20°C to +70°C, a 170° horizontal and vertical viewing angle and a sturdy construction. It is also particu-larly well suited for user interfaces that require icons or use modern 16:9 illustrations in their design.

It is not only a geometric exercise but also a practical chal-lenge to display round logos or pictograms in an efficient and space saving way. A monitor with common 16:9 or 16:10 format is not an ideal device as a large active area would be redundant. The solution is the brand new display MSSF-2735-A in a square shape.

The monitor comes with a resolution 945 x 1080 pixel and reaches a diagonal size of 69 cm (27,3”). But even more than that the monitor is carrying 2 displays in 1 housing: One on the front side and on the back side. For use in industrial controls in harsh environments, in medical devices and outdoor vending machines, MSC Technologies offers the new G170J1-LE1 43 cm (17") TFT display from Innolux.
This display stands out due to its suitability for industrial applications, which is an unusual characteristic for display monitors of this size. The display features a WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixels) resolution.

Based on S-MVA technology, the display provides high brightness of 600 cd/m² and a wide-angle viewing of 176° in all directions. The working temperature range is between -20°C and +80°C (storage temperature: -40°C to +90°C). The LED driver and LVDS interface are pre-installed, making integration easier.
Innolux indicates a lifecycle of at least five years for the new G-series displays. MSC Technologies offers the G170J1-LE1 display together with the appropriate embedded boards and controllers.

MSC Technologies” high performance, wide-screen 'letter-box' format TFT displays from KOE are targeting leisure and entertainment applications including pay per play casino gaming machines. Other applications are AV equipment, consumer information systems, digital signage, retail based point-of-decision displays and industrial instrumentation. The 15,7 cm (6.2") TX16D20VM5BAA display has a wide as-pect ratio of 8:3 and a resolution of 640 x 240 pixels. The display features a cost effective UWVA (ultra-wide viewing angle) 'IPS like' display technology which provides a display image with excellent colour saturation, black levels and wide viewing angles.

The display has a contrast ratio of 400:1. The white LED backlight provides a brightness of 400 cd/m². The 40-pin CMOS data interface features 6-bit RGB colour data which enables a colour palette of up to 262K colours. The KOE TX18D200VM0EAA TFT display delivered by MSC Technologies has an 17.8 cm (7") size and full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. The display features a pixel pitch of 0.081 mm (w) x 0.081 mm (h), which equates to 314 ppi (pixels per inch). Typical target markets are industrial, high reliability, test and measurement, professional broadcast and medical imaging applications.
Based on the latest Advanced IPS (in-plane-switching) tech-nology, the panel features 170° vertical and horizontal viewing angles. Excellent optical performance is ensured with a contrast ratio of 800:1 and a brightness specifica-tion of 700 cd/m². The longlife LED Backlight is specified at 70.000 hours to half brightness lifetime and integrates a dimming function.

MSC Technologies now has a broad product portfolio of more than 30 different display versions with NLT Technol-ogies Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touch panel technology. In addition to inexpensive standard models, different ver-sions with ultra-wide viewing angle, extreme brightness and extended temperature range as well as versions with optical bonded touchscreens are available for demand-ing applications. The displays range from 16,5 cm (6.5") to 39,6 cm (15.6")in size and are, without exception, long-term available and subject to strict quality criteria.
Based on an Atmel® maXTouch Controller
An important feature of NLT’s advanced PCAP touch panel technology is that the touch surface is flush with the out-er edges of the display to simplify the installation into the finished equipment. The diamond pattern x/y single glass design is based on an Atmel® maXTouch Controller. The op-erating surface is a 0.7 mm thick cover glass, with anti-glare and anti-fingerprint coating, bonded to the sensor. A GUI based tuning software supports the user with setting the main parameters and thus simplifies the integration. For correspondingly large order quantities, display versions with PCAP touch panel technology can also be provided with customer-specific printed coverglass or with additional optical features.

MSC Technologies offers DITO projected capacitive touch sensors of GE Star. DITO (Double sided ITO) is a 0.55 mm thick single glass substrate, with ITO layer on its top and bottom side. Using DITO sensors together with S type touch controllers offers a high performance at competitive pricing. For implementation of controller chipsets on main-boards, we offer kits of maxTouch controllers combined with an USB bridge.
Special high conductive nano silver technology
Projected capacitive touch sensors usually go along with custom designed coverglass. Various glass materials can be offered, shaped according to design requirements, e.g. rounded corners, mechanically treated edges, specific surface characteristics, cut-through holes and backside durable printing. Using these options, the p-cap touch be-comes a major design element for your device.
To complete the product range with larger sizes, MSC Technologies utilizes foil/foil sensors with special high conductive nano silver technology. Customer-specific touch sensors may be provided in addition to the standard sizes of 8,9 cm (3.5”) to 61 cm (24”).

MSC Technologies expands its product portfolio of public in-formation displays from AUO with a further stretched version (bar-type). The stretched panel with a half Full HD resolution of 1920 x 540 pixels has a 96.5 cm (38") diagonal and is compa-rable with the half of a 106.7 cm (42") display.

The external dimensions of the bar-type display are 958.45 mm x 304.85 mm. The active area is specified as 930.25 mm x 276.54 mm, which corresponds to a 16:4.7 ratio. The panel is 28.4 mm thick and offers an ultra-wide viewing angle of more than 98 degrees from all sides. An 8-bit or 12-bit 2-channel LVDS interface with a display voltage of 12 V is optionally available. The brightness of 700 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 2000:1 ensure that the display can be eas-ily read even under poor light conditions.
Until now, stretched displays were used primarily in gaming applications. In the meantime, they are being used more and more in many areas of daily life where it must be possible to frequently modify the information displayed. The finish company Bluegiga Technologies announced its new BLE121LR extended range Bluetooth Smart Module, which is available in Mass production. MSC Technologies, who is proud to be a distributor of Bluegiga since MSC joined Avnet, is presenting this module on MSC’s booth on Electronica 2014. The module is offering extended range capabilities up to 450 m with current generation tablets and smartphones while maintaining low power operation commensurate with Bluetooth Smart technology.
BLE121LR has a RF transmit power of +8dBm and a receive sensitivity of -98dBm means a tremendous link budget of 106 dBm. Hence Bluegiga was able to measure Line-of-Sight Ranges of e.g. 250 meter to iPhone 4S, 450 meter to Nexus7 and 450 meter between two BLE121LR. At the same time, the power consumption with a peak current consumption of 38 mA, and sleep current as low as 0.5 uA is still lower than other Bluetooth Smart products and even more not comparable with Class1 Bluetooth modules. MSC Technologies announces full Mass Production avail-ability of Panasonic’s PAN1740. It is Panasonic’s (PAISEU) next-generation Bluetooth Smart (Low Energy) module with reduced form factor, significantly lower power con-sumption, embedded BLE stack and profile.
The PAN1740 is a single mode Bluetooth system-on-chip module and is optimized for low power and small size. The power consumption of only 4,9 mA in Tx or Rx mode allows the use of coin cell batteries and decreases battery require-ments up to 50 percent when compared to current genera-tion Bluetooth Smart devices.
Smallest form factor stand alone operation module The 9.0 x 9.5 x 1.8 mm footprint with a fully shielded case and integrated crystal oscillators and chip antenna is one of the smallest Low Energy modules available. A lot of the comparable modules don’t have these devices integrated. The extended Industrial temperature range of -40 / +85° C is optimized for industrial usage.
Due to the integrated OTP-Memory and SRAM combined with the small size of the Embedded BLE stack and GATT profile it can be used in autonomous stand alone operation. Because of the integrated ARM Cortex M0 controller appli-cation software can run as well as BLE profiles and services.

The German based lesswire AG, who is MSC’s technologies franchise partner for high quality automotive wireless modules, presents the first wireless module for Car2X applications. The module, called WiBear ITS, makes it easier for integrators to develop electronics for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Roadside Units (RSU).
Frequency spectrum in the 5.9GHz range
The communication technology for cooperative ITS and Car-2-Car Communication is derived from the standard IEEE 802.11, also known as Wireless LAN. A frequency spectrum in the 5.9 GHz range has been allocated on a harmonized basis in Europe in line with similar allocations in USA. As soon as two or more vehicles or ITS stations are in radio communication range, they connect automatically and es-tablish an ad hoc network where all ITS stations know the position, speed and direction of the other stations and will be able to provide warnings and information. Car2X appli-cations improve safety and efficiency on the roads by pro-viding information between vehicles (Car-2-Car) and be-tween vehicles and the traffic infrastructure (Car-2-I).
