Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Summer Starts This Weekend
This weekend begins the official start of Summer. The summer months can be a refreshing change of pace for us.
Many of us take some vacation, or at least try to enjoy more of the outdoors. Doing some traveling or experiencing a
change of pace can be a very good thing. It’s an opportunity for us to be more reflective of the ways God is speaking to us and working in our lives. We can be renewed. On the other hand, the change of pace can also be an occasion for us to be neglectful of our spiritual lives. Don’t let this happen. Here are a few tips or goals to consider as we enter into the summer months:
Making Mass a Priority
Make it a priority to attend Mass every weekend, especially while you are traveling or on vacation. Please attend in person. Online is not the same time. By doing so, we keep Christ and the Lord’s Day at the center of our lives. Going to Mass at another parish while we are out of town is also an opportunity to experience the worship of another community and get a broader sense of the universal Catholic Church to which we belong. If you are traveling with friends or family who may not be Catholic or may not be practicing their faith, announcing in advance that you will be going to Mass on Sunday and inviting anyone who wishes to go with you is a wonder opportunity to give witness to your faith. Do your homework before you leave. You can easily find out online where are the closest Catholic churches and Mass times to your travel destination.
Memorial Day Mass
All are welcome to the Memorial Day Mass at St. Aloysius Cemetery on Monday, May 31st at 10am. Bring a lawn chair. Since this is the only Mass that day within our Catholic Community, all are welcome to join us! Rain location will be St. Aloysius Church.
Deacon Ordination of Michael Churchill
With thanksgiving to almighty God, Redeemer Saints celebrates the ordination of Michael David Churchill to the Order of Deacon at 2 p.m.
on Friday, June 11, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona.
This past year, Michael, whose home parish is St. Finbarr in Grand Meadow, completed his Theology 3 studies at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. The previous year, he spent on internship in our parishes. He has had quite an impact. You are most welcome to attend the Ordination of Michael. If for some reason you are not able to join us in person, you are also welcome to “attend” online virtually on the Diocese of Winona-Rochester YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/
user/DioceseofWinona or its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/
DioceseofWinonaRochester – let us continue to keep Michael in our prayers!
Gove Loves You!

Prayer of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus,
I believe that you are truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things and I desire to possess You within my soul.
Since I am unable at this moment to receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as being already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.

Making music by Deacon Mann
Mediocre, at best. That’s how Matt felt at intermission. He loved playing piano with the jazz trio, but these past weeks had been hard. Their drummer Chris was having marriage problems. Kyle the bass player had just lost his dad to cancer. Matt had been suffering from what his doctor said was arthritis. It was like they were losing themselves. Matt was questioning his career choice.
Still, they trudged on—back on stage for the last two sets. As the three huddled back stage considering coming back out for their usual encore, Matt felt a tug in his heart.
“Guys,” he said to them. “I know that we’ve been sort of off lately. But we’re family. We are a circle of love. Let’s go out there and love.”
As the lights dimmed and the audience settled back down, Matt, Kyle, and Chris took their places. This was the tune they always finished with. It allowed each to show off their talents with extended improvised solos. Click, click, click— Chris counted them in. Kyle picked it up with a riff, and Matt added a few chords. He only thought of loving them. All he kept thinking was how much he loved. How much he loved his friends, how much he loved the audience, and how much he loved jazz. He sent his band mates a huge smile.
And it was magical. Musicians understand that when you’re on, no one is leading; no one is following: You are just one. Somehow Matt knew where Chris was going; Kyle was able to follow. They each knew what the other was doing. Each one’s solo was longer and unique—like never before. It was like a dialogue, all-consuming and all-fulfilling. This was not what they’d rehearsed. It was better. They were each pouring into the other, without thinking of themselves. It was like time stood still. They were one.
“This is who I am,” Matt thought as he played and took in his band mates. “This is what it’s all about: Love. Love that makes us one.”

Totus Tuus, which means “Totally Yours”, is a Catholic summer youth camp. The camp is led by college students and seminarians from the Diocese of Winona-Rochester. At camp students will learn and explore the Catholic faith through The Five Pillars of Totus Tuus: The Eucharist, Marian Devotion, Catechetical Instruction, Vocational Discernment, and Fun! Younger grades will enjoy silly skits, songs, recess, bringing a packed lunch, a parish potluck supper, and even a water fight on the last day of camp. The older youth will enjoy small group discussion, quiet meditation, prayer, and fellowship. Cost for the camp is $25 per family.
We are offering an early bird registration of $20 per family if registered by June 15th.
Information/Registration forms can be picked up in the front of both parishes and are also available on our website. Please turn these into the parish office or place in collection baskets.
Thank you!
