1. Download the software to a computer 2. Browse, Borrow, Download
3. Transfer to a compatible device

1. Browse for a Kindle book. 2. Borrow a Kindle book.
3. Confirm & Download Kindle (i.e., Deliver to Kindle).

Computer Instructions for Borrowing
How do I borrow digital titles?
Once you have located an available title: 1. Select Borrow
o Checkout limit: 20 2. Proceed to Borrowing
Note: Borrowing requires a valid library card and PIN.
Holds:
What is the Hold Limit? 20
How will you contact me? Through the email you have provided.
How long do I have to borrow my hold? Exactly 2 days or 48 hours after the hold notification is generated by the system.
To place a hold:
Select the Place a Hold icon next to the appropriate title.
When prompted, enter your email address and then select the Place a Hold icon again to complete the process.
To checkout a hold:
1. Log into Account via digitalbooks.toledolibrary.org 2. Select Holds to locate your hold items.

Computer Instructions for Downloading eBooks
How do I download an eBook?
Complete the borrowing process.
Select the Confirm & Download link.
Note: When downloading eBooks, you should be prompted
to Open or Save. If you select Open, the eBook should download and open in Adobe Digital Editions.
If the eBook file won’t open in Adobe Digital Editions:
Option 1: Save the eBook file and then drag it into Adobe Digital Editions.
Option 2: Save the eBook file and then add it to your Adobe Digital Editions Library.
To Add a Saved File to Adobe Digital Editions:
Open Adobe Digital Editions.
Select File / Add to Library.
Find the file, select the file, then Open.

Computer Instructions for USB Transfer (eBooks)
To Transfer via USB (eBooks):
1. Connect your NOOK to your computer (via USB). 2. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
3. Select the desired eBook while in Library View. 4. Drag the eBook to the NOOK icon.
Note: Release the mouse when a plus sign is displayed and the eBook will copy to your NOOK. 5. Disconnect or eject the NOOK and enjoy the eBook on-the-go.

Computer Instructions for Early Return (eBooks)
Returning, Renewing & Deleting
Note: You can renew a borrowed title if no other users are on hold for that title. The renewal option becomes available on a user’s Bookshelf three days before the title is scheduled to expire. Titles can only be renewed once.
To return eBooks early from a home computer: 1. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
2. Right-click on the eBook.

To download Public Domain eBooks using Adobe Digital Editions: 1. Download the eBook file to your computer.
2. Open with Adobe Digital Editions. 3. Select: Copy to Library.

Troubleshooting (from a computer)
Erase Device Authorization
1. Plug in your device (via your computer’s USB port). 2. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
3. Select the device icon
4. Select the Device Options icon and then select Erase
Device Authorization.
5. Eject the device from your computer and close Adobe Digital Editions.
Erase Computer Authorization
Open Adobe Digital Editions.
Select the keys: Ctrl + Shift + D
Select Erase Authorization.

How do I re-authorize Adobe Digital Editions?
Open Adobe Digital Editions.
Select Help / Authorize Computer.
Enter your Adobe ID information.
Select Authorize.

General Troubleshooting Tips
Reasons for license errors:
Public Library eBooks are protected by Digital Rights Management, which prevents illegal downloading and file sharing.
Attempting to download the same eBook on multiple devices that have been authorized or activated with different Adobe IDs.
Attempting to copy and paste eBook files without properly downloading them into a program authorized with an Adobe ID.
Anonymous Authorization:
Reading eBooks on a home computer? - Anonymous activation is Ok.
Transferring eBooks to a portable device? - Activate with an Adobe ID before downloading.
How to avoid license errors:
Activate Adobe Digital Editions with an Adobe ID before downloading eBooks.
Always use the same Adobe ID on all of your devices.
Adobe permits the authorization of up to 6 devices with the same Adobe ID.
