in Copenhagen, has skillfully revealed the di-mensions of this type of prostitution.

He estimates that in urban Denmark prosti-tution among males equals that among females. This situation is not, however, peculiar to Denmark as shown by the studies of other European countries and that of Kinsey (et al) of the U. S. Male prostitutes are predominately young (78 percent are under 21 years of age), destitute migrants from the rural community. Their clients are usually young adults (25-40 years of age) of middle and upper middle class

background. In addition to these items, the author has discussed male prostitution as a behavior system and the techniques of con-trolling it.

In Denmark and other European countries, legal punishment is prescribed for the receiver of the payment. But, homosexuality, per se, is not punishable unless it involves interaction between an adult and a minor. This work should be of considerable importance to those inter-ested in constructing a theory of prostitution.
