weeks 3.E.2.1 Compare Earth’s saltwater and freshwater features (including oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, ponds, streams, and glaciers). Landforms Surface Freshwater Saltwater Brackish Glaciers Oceans Seas Rivers Lakes Ponds Streams organisms

-Recognize that there are different bodies of water on the surface of the earth.

-Name the bodies of water based on their characteristics (bodies of water are salty, some are ‘fresh’, some are ‘brackish’, and some are frozen in ice sheets and glaciers.) -Discriminate between the different types of organisms that have developed to live in these different bodies and types of water. - Compare Earth’s saltwater and freshwater features (including oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, ponds, streams, and glaciers).

*Using your science journal draw and label the different bodies of water and include some characteristics for each (writing to learn)

*Writing to Learn-choose one body of water to research that could include: the animals, plants, surrounding

habitat/environment, etc ( this can also be included in the Duplin Co. Writing

Folder)(3.RP1)(3tt.1)

*Choose a body of water to create a diorama, poster, or other project depicting the characteristics of that body of water (writing to learn, collaborative group work)

*Small group -create murals on classroom walls using bulletin board paper of showing lakes, oceans, rivers, streams, ponds, & glaciers (writing to learn, collaborative group work)

Weeks 3.E.2.2 Compare Earth’s land features (including volcanoes, mountains, valleys, canyons, caverns, and islands) by using models, pictures, diagrams, and maps. Attributes Volcanoes Mountains Valleys Canyons Caverns Islands Model

-Conclude that the surface of the earth has many different types of physical features.

-Organize these features according to their structure. -Choose and construct a representation of a physical feature of the Earth

(models, maps, posters, diagrams, etc.).

- Compare Earth’s land features (including volcanoes, mountains, valleys, canyons, caverns, and islands) by using models, pictures, diagrams, and maps.

* SMART Exchange Landforms: Who Am I? This activity will introduce students to the physical attributes SMART Exchange - USA - Landforms Who Am I.mht(Classroom Talk, questioning)(3.TT1)

*Collaborative Group make a 3D pop-up book showing each landform (pairs) *Visit the library and use an encyclopedia or other resources to create a circle map to describe the characteristics of each landform (Scaffolding)(3.RP.1)

*This link will allow students to investigate landforms(classroom talk,

questioning)(3.TT1)
