Productscan becomedamagedduetomisuseor neglect.Some productdamage isseriousenoughthattheproductshouldnot beused againuntilithas been inspectedand,ifnecessary,repaired byanauthorizedservicer.

As withanyelectronic device,paycloseattentiontotheproductwhenitis turnedon.Onveryrareoccasions,youmightnoticeanodororseeapuffof smokeorsparksventfromyourmachine.Oryoumighthearsoundslike popping,cracking orhissing.Theseconditionsmightmerelymean thatan internalelectronic componenthas failedinasafe andcontrolledmanner.Or, theymightindicateapotentialsafetyissue.However, donottakerisks or attempt todiagnosethesituationyourselfcontact theCustomerSupportCenter. Frequentlyinspectyourcomputeranditscomponentsfordamageorwear or signsofdanger. Alwaysobservethefollowingprecautions toreducetheriskofinjuryandproperty damage.

Service

Donotattempttoservice aproductyourself unlessinstructedtodosobythe Customer SupportCenteroryour documentation.Useonlyaserviceproviderwho isapprovedtorepairyourparticularproduct.

Note: Somepartscanbeupgradedorreplacedbythecustomer.Thesepartsare

referredtoasCustomerReplaceableUnits,orCRUs.Lenovoexpressly identifiesCRUsassuch,and providesdocumentationwith instructions whenitisappropriateforcustomerstoreplacethoseparts. Power

cords

adapters

Use onlythepowercordsandpoweradapterssuppliedbytheproduct manufacturer.

Thepowercordsshallbe safetyapproved.ForGermany,it shallbeH05VV-F,3G, 0.75 mm2,orbetter.For othercountries,thesuitabletypesshallbeused

accordingly.

Never wrapa powercordaroundthepoweradapterorotherobject.Doingsocan stressthecordin waysthatcancausethecordtofray,crackorcrimp.Thiscan presenta safetyhazard.

Alwaysroutepowercordssothattheywillnotbe walkedon,tripped over,or pinchedbyobjects.

Protect thecordandpoweradapters fromliquids.For instance,donotleaveyour cordorpoweradapternearsinks,tubs,toilets,oronfloorsthatarecleanedwith liquidcleansers.Liquidscancausea shortcircuit,particularlyifthecordorpower adapterhasbeenstressedbymisuse.Liquidscanalsocausegradualcorrosionof thepowercordterminals and/ortheconnectorterminals ontheadapterwhichcan eventuallyresult inoverheating.

Alwaysconnectpowercordsandsignalcables inthecorrectorderandensurethat all powercordconnectorsare securelyand completelypluggedintoreceptacles.

Donotuseanypoweradapterthatshowscorrosionattheacinputpinsand/or showssigns ofoverheating(suchasdeformedplastic)at theacinputoranywhere onthepoweradapter.

Donotuseanypowercordswheretheelectricalcontactsoneitherendshowsigns of corrosionoroverheatingorwherethepowercordappearstohavebeen

damagedinanyway.

Extension

cords

and

related

devices

Ensurethatextension cords,surgeprotectors,uninterruptiblepowersupplies,and powerstripsthatyouuseareratedtohandletheelectricalrequirementsofthe product. Neveroverloadthesedevices.Ifpowerstripsare used,theloadshould notexceedthepowerstripinputrating.Consult anelectricianformore

informationif youhavequestionsaboutpowerloads,powerrequirements,and inputratings.

Plugs

and

outlets

Ifa receptacle(poweroutlet)thatyouintendtousewith yourcomputer equipmentappears tobedamagedorcorroded,donotusetheoutlet untilitis replacedbyaqualifiedelectrician.

Donotbendormodifytheplug. Iftheplugisdamaged,contact themanufacturer toobtaina replacement.

Some productsareequippedwith athree-prongedplug.Thisplugfitsonlyintoa grounded electricaloutlet.Thisisa safetyfeature.Donotdefeatthissafety feature bytryingtoinsertitintoa non-groundedoutlet.Ifyoucannotinsertthepluginto theoutlet,contact anelectricianforanapprovedoutletadapteror toreplacethe outlet withonethatenablesthissafetyfeature.Neveroverloadanelectricaloutlet. The overallsystem loadshouldnotexceed80percentof thebranchcircuitrating. Consult anelectricianformore informationifyouhavequestions aboutpower loadsandbranchcircuitratings.

Be surethatthepoweroutlet youare usingisproperlywired,easilyaccessible, and locatedclosetotheequipment.Donotfullyextendpowercordsinawaythat willstressthecords.

Carefullyconnectand disconnecttheequipmentfromtheelectricaloutlet.

Batteries

All personalcomputersmanufactured byLenovocontainanon-rechargeablecoin cellbatterytoprovidepowertothesystem clock.Inaddition,manymobile products,suchasnotebookcomputers, utilizea rechargeablebatterypackto providesystem powerwheninportable mode.Batteriessupplied byLenovofor usewithyour producthavebeentestedforcompatibilityand shouldonlybe replacedwithapproved parts.

Never attempttoopenorserviceanybattery.Donotcrush,puncture,orincinerate batteries orshortcircuitthemetalcontacts.Donotexposethebatterytowateror otherliquids.Onlyrechargethebatterypackstrictlyaccordingtoinstructions includedintheproductdocumentation.

Batteryabuse ormishandlingcancausethebatterytooverheat, whichcancause gassesor flameto“vent”fromthebatterypackorcoincell.Ifyour batteryis damaged,orif younoticeanydischargefromyour batteryorthebuildup of foreign materialsonthebatteryleads,stopusingthebatteryandobtaina replacement fromthebatterymanufacturer.

Batteries candegradewhentheyareleft unusedforlongperiodsoftime.For some rechargeable batteries(particularlyLithiumIonbatteries),leavinga batteryunused in adischargedstatecouldincreasetheriskofa batteryshortcircuit,whichcould

shortenthelifeofthebatteryandcanalsoposeasafetyhazard.Donotlet

rechargeableLithium-Ionbatteries completelydischargeorstorethesebatteries ina dischargedstate.

Heat

and

product

ventilation

Computers generateheatwhenturnedonandwhenbatteriesare charging. NotebookPCscangenerateasignificantamount ofheatduetotheircompactsize. Alwaysfollowthesebasicprecautions:

v Donotleavethebase ofyournotebookcomputerincontact withyourlapor

anypartof yourbodyforanextendedperiodwhenthecomputerisfunctioning orwhenthebatteryischarging.Yourcomputerproduces someheat during normaloperation.Extendedcontactwith thebodycouldcausediscomfortor, potentially,a skinburn.

v Donotoperateyourcomputerorchargethebatterynearflammablematerialsor

inexplosiveenvironments.

v Ventilationslots,fansand/or heatsinksareprovidedwith theproductforsafety,

comfort,and reliableoperation.Thesefeaturesmight inadvertentlybecome blockedbyplacingtheproductona bed,sofa,carpet,orotherflexible surface. Neverblock,cover ordisablethesefeatures.

Youshouldinspectyourdesktopcomputerfor dustaccumulationatleastonce everythreemonths.Beforeinspectingyour computer,turnoffthepowerand unplug thecomputer’spowercordfromtheelectricaloutlet;then removeanydust fromventsandperforationsinthebezel.Ifyounoticeexternaldust accumulation, youshouldalsoexamineandremovedustfromtheinsideofthecomputer includingheatsinkinletfins, powersupplyvents, andfans.Alwaysturnoffand unplug thecomputerbeforeopeningthecover.Ifpossible,avoidoperatingyour computerwithin 2feet ofhigh-trafficareas.Ifyoumust operateyour computerin ornear ahigh-trafficarea,youshouldinspectand,ifnecessary, cleanyour

computermore frequently.

For yoursafetyand tomaintainoptimumcomputerperformance,alwaysfollow these basicprecautionswith yourdesktopcomputer:
