PhD student position in Surface and Semiconductor Physics Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM) University of Linköping, Linköping, Sweden. Job description You will perform experimental studies of semiconductor surfaces modified by different atoms. One and two-dimensional structures are of primary interest and the aim is to characterize their electronic and atomic structures. These low-dimensional structures are of significant interest within the field of nano science. Angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) are the main techniques used to characterize the surfaces. The ARPES studies will be performed at MAX-lab

(www.maxlab.lu.se) that is a national synchrotron radiation facility providing excellent

experimental conditions. Scanning tunnelling microscopy studies will be done at IFM using our variable temperature UHV-STM. As a complement to the experimental studies, computer simulations of electronic and atomic structure will be part of the activities.
