The National Hellenic Student Association (NHSA) of North

America, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit umbrella for university

Hellenic student organizations throughout the United States and

Canada.

Why Attend an NHSA Convention? NHSA is the largest umbrella student organization in North America which promotes Hellenism, education, and unity. NHSA conventions are educational, professional, and social in nature. Participants have the opportunity to learn from numerous speakers presenting on a variety of topics as well as network with professionals. During the convention, students are brought together from across North America and have the opportunity to expand their personal network and friendships.

NHSA Announces Fall 2015 Convention

Chicago, Illinois - August 4, 2015 – The National Hellenic Student Association (NHSA) of

North America, Inc. has just announced the launching of their next semi-annual convention,

which will take place

October 23-25, 2015

in

Chicago, IL

. NHSA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, serves

as the umbrella organization for a network of collegiate Hellenic associations throughout North

America. NHSA is committed to uniting students of the diaspora by incorporating education,

professionalism and

diaskedasi

within one memorable weekend, while also providing

scholarship opportunities for committed attendees and those travelling from afar. Their

conventions boast academic workshops with guest speakers as well as networking and social

events where students can learn, forge new connections with professionals, and create

long-lasting friendships across the continent.

NHSA is excited to host their fall 2015 convention in collaboration with the

Hellenic American

Leadership Council

(HALC). Centered in Chicago, IL, HALC advocates for Hellenic and

American ideals of democracy, rule of law, and philanthropy through civic leadership.

The beautiful city of Chicago has been home to many Hellenes ever since their arrival in the

1840s. As official co-host, the DePaul University HSA as well as neighboring universities look

forward to welcoming students and professionals alike, this October, for an eventful weekend

celebrating Hellenism.

Mission

The National Hellenic Student Association (“NHSA”) of North America, Inc. serves as an umbrella for Hellenic student organizations of universities throughout the United States and Canada. NHSA promotes Hellenism, culture, education, mentorship, and overall unity of the Hellenic community.

NHSA has provided guidance, career advice, mentorship, and life-long opportunities, in tandem with local Hellenic Student Associations, to North American citizens of Hellenic descent for over ten years. NHSA was founded in 2004 and was revitalized in 2009.

Since its inception, NHSA has come to represent over 50 universities across North America, launch numerous educational and public service initiatives, and hosts many tremendously successful conventions in cities across the United States and Canada.

Initiatives

On top of the semi-annual conventions, NHSA has created other initiatives including a foreign exchange/study abroad program, a professor network, and information sessions on North American universities in Greece. NHSA has worked with The Hellenic Initiative, The Hellenic Hope, and Repo(we)r Greece to create a student dialogue on how the student diaspora can help Greece in their time of crisis. Conventions – General Information

The National Hellenic Student Association of North America’s semi-annual conventions are educational, professional, and social in nature that attracts approximately 100 students and about 20 mentors/speakers. These conferences serve to unite the Hellenic student population, but also unite the Hellenic community as a whole. By providing various workshops, we hope to educate students and participants on topics from

[email protected] 501(c)3 Nonprofit www.nhsaofamerica.org 4 the economic crisis to foreign affairs to science/medicine to journalism to culture and identify and much more. Educational workshops coupled with networking events as well as social activities provide students with the opportunity to make new friendships, develop a different perspective on a variety of topics, and leave with professionals as mentors.

Support from the Community

NHSA values the Hellenic community and the support they provide. In order to keep the costs low and attractive for students, we attempt to reduce the registration fee as much as possible. Donations are used to fund convention expenses including, but not limited to, venues, speaker accommodations, food, and printing. Remaining funds after the convention are split between NHSA general treasury and a charitable donation. To further assist students, attendance scholarships are granted to those who qualify. NHSA also looks to the community for speakers, mentors, and supporters for our convention.
