EcoCups: 100% Biodegradable and Compostable

How they’re made:

EcoCups are produced using paper board sourced from managed plantations. The board is coated with a thin layer of PLA bioplastic (polylactic acid) that prevents the paper from absorbing liquid. The cups are then formed using conventional cup manufacturing machinery.

The cups are produced in an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 compliant, state-of-the-art factory.

How they’re unmade:

EcoCups can be recycled or composted. Whilst they will break down in a home composter, the best place is the compost heap, ensuring the earth’s mineral cycle continues. Ideally, PLA should be disposed of in an industrial compost facility. The microorganisms combined with a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius and humidity above 80% will ensure that the PLA completely biodegrades.

*These cups perform the same or better than regular paper hot cups! Make the eco-friendly switch today!

GOOD TO KNOW: Compostable vs. Biodegradable

Compostable

: solid biodegradable materials that decay into a nutrient-rich, natural material under

controlled conditions in a commercial composting facility, utilizing controlled micro-organisms, humidity and

temperature.

Biodegradable

: solid materials that will degrade as a result of natural bacteria activity, and will disappear

into the environment over a period of time.

It is important to remember that there are varying levels of biodegradability and not all products claiming

to be biodegradable will break down fully. Likewise, not all bioplastics or biodegradable and compostable

products are made from renewable resources. Make sure to check that the products you use are made

from annually-renewable resources and manufactured with as few emissions as possible.

The EcoPack PLA cutlery range is compostable in a commercial composting facility. However, should these end up in a landfill, they still offer environmental benefits, such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions and reduced dependence on fossil fuels during manufacture. They will eventually decompose, but ideally we recommend that the compost bin is their final destination, wherever possible, to ensure that the earth’s mineral cycle continues as efficiently as possible.

Our white serviettes are Sappi Triple Green certified, and made from 60% sugar cane fibre. They are chlorine-free and support sustainable afforestation.

Natural Fibre, Twines & Cordage

EcoPack’s twines and strings are made from natural plant fibre originating from renewable managed resources. We do not stock synthetic fibre ropes which are derived from the oil industry.

Cotton Twines

Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fibre that grows around the seeds of cotton plants of the genus Gossypium. The fibre is almost pure cellulose; and is most often spun into yard or thread and used to make a soft, breathable textile. This twisted twine is a 100% natural cotton yarn, and is great for stationery, packaging, handicrafts, upholstery and toys.

Sisal Dry Twines

Sisal is an agave that yields a stiff fibre traditionally used in making twine and rope. This 100% natural sisal fibre is a twisted 1-ply. It is durable and knots well; and is great for general purpose tying, agriculture and gardening, packaging and handicrafts.

ECO Strings

This string is made from hemp, a fibre plant similar to flax and jute, which is a natural plant fibre originating from renewable managed resources. This twisted twine is a 100% natural fibre yarn (hemp); and is great for stationery, packaging, handicrafts and toys, and upholstery.
