1.1

What is HP CloudSystem?

HP CloudSystem is the most complete, integrated, open platform that enables enterprises and service providers to build and manage cloud services. Based on proven, market-leading HP Converged

Infrastructure and Cloud Service Automation, HP CloudSystem integrates servers, storage, networking, security, and management to automate the infrastructure-to-application lifecycle for hybrid service delivery management. The result is a complete cloud solution that lets enterprises gain agility and speed, and allows service providers to drive top-line growth. As a part of the HP Converged Cloud architecture, clients have a simplified, integrated platform that is easier to manage and provides flexibility and portability between private, public, and managed clouds.

What are the HP CloudSystem offerings?

Based on proven, market leading HP Cloud Service Automation and Converged Infrastructure, HP CloudSystem is tailored for the requirements of enterprises and service providers at various stages of cloud maturity with three offerings:

• CloudSystem Matrix: HP CloudSystem Matrix is Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) for private and hybrid cloud environments, allowing users to provision infrastructure in minutes for physical and virtual. This offering includes a self-service infrastructure portal for quick auto-provisioning, along with built-in lifecycle management to optimize infrastructure, manage the resource pools, and help ensure uptime. Matrix is integrated by design with broad support of heterogeneous environments including cloud-bursting to a variety of public cloud providers including HP Cloud Services.

• CloudSystem Enterprise: HP CloudSystem Enterprise lets customers unify management for IaaS, SaaS and PaaS, across traditional environments as well as private, public and hybrid clouds and adds

advanced infrastructure-to-application lifecycle management, for IT and Line of business users. This includes HP CloudSystem Matrix, HP Cloud Service Automation (CSA), and implementation services. • CloudSystem Service Provider: Advanced capabilities for service providers with HP CloudSystem Service Provider, facilitating deployment of public and hosted private clouds that deliver complete service aggregation and management. HP is also working with strategic partners, utilizing HP

CloudSystem Service Provider as the core building block, to extend provider reach into new and existing markets faster with increased revenue opportunities. HP CloudSystem Service Provider includes market-leading HP Converged Infrastructure, HP Cloud Service Automation, HP Aggregation platform for SaaS (AP4SaaS), and a set of pre-packaged, ready to launch cloud services.

Clients who have already invested in HP Converged Infrastructure and HP Software technology can easily expand their current architectures to achieve a private, public or complete hybrid cloud environment with HP.

1.3

What service types can be defined, created and consumed with Matrix

OE?

Matrix OE provides capabilities to define, create, consume and manage the lifecycle of infrastructure services, also known as Infrastructure-as-a-Service. These are services consisting of virtual, physical or Public Cloud servers and their associated virtual/physical storage, and network connections that can be provisioned on-demand from a self-service portal.

• Enterprises needing optimized, continuous consolidation -- built-in capacity planning and unlimited migrations for all servers with Smart Solver technology for best-fit advice for utilization of capacity; accelerate and standardize your process for migration from rack servers to blades

• Large customers implementing data center transformation, internal cloud or shared services models -- enforce your best-practice architectural designs and processes; and simplify service and application delivery to lines of business with self-service portal

• Service providers – provide streamlined service delivery with self-service portals for dedicated customers; improve forecasting and capacity planning for your customers.

What are the proven benefits of HP CloudSystem Matrix?

HP CloudSystem Matrix paves the way to a hybrid, private cloud. Once the CloudSystem Matrix solution is installed and the service catalogs with templates and workflows have been defined, provisioning infrastructure with configured applications can be done quickly. In one case of a multi-tiered e-Shopping service, it took a total of just 108 minutes (to kick off the provisioning of the service from the Matrix self-service portal to having an up and running self-service). The previous process for this HP customer to bring up a similar service was 33 days. In another example, it took just 17 minutes to provision a service that included 10 virtual machines along with their storage and network connections. For some customers, the typical process can be even months long due to planning and coordination processes.

And all this is done in a cost-efficient way: CloudSystem Matrix lets customers take costs out today and keep them out tomorrow. You can transform the economics of your data center by doubling

1.6

What is in the HP CloudSystem Matrix? Are there any new or unique

technologies in the HP CloudSystem Matrix that I can’t already buy from

HP?

The HP CloudSystem Matrix integrates the delivery of proven HP BladeSystem technologies such as Virtual Connect Flex-10 or FlexFabric, Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager, HP CloudSystem Matrix software, Factory Express Services and implementation services. Options can also include HP Storage, HP Networking, HP security products and 3rd party operating system and hypervisor licenses.

HP CloudSystem Matrix converges these capabilities together in an easy-to-order package that comes with complete factory and implementation services. The HP CloudSystem Matrix efficiently delivers infrastructure in ‘building blocks’ directly to customers. The purchase price of the HP CloudSystem Matrix is about 12 to 14% (before adding server blades and storage) less expensive than ordering the individual components separately and is at least 20% faster to order and implement to be ready for user operations.

1.7

Why should I sell the full CloudSystem Matrix solution instead of the

component technologies?

Four reasons:

1. The CloudSystem Matrix solution simplifies and accelerates the ordering, delivery, and

installation process. It includes complete factory and implementation services that take the hassle out of configuration verification and installation so it’s much faster to order and be ready for user operations. 2. The included CloudSystem Matrix implementation services include site preparation and the basic integration of the solution into the existing customer environment.

3. Once installed, it is supported as one environment, NOT as individual components. The support organization knows about the whole CloudSystem Matrix environment and can ensure in a support situation to consult based on the whole environment and not just the component, i.e. dependencies are taken into account

4. The purchase price of CloudSystem Matrix is less expensive than the individual components. Bottom line, CloudSystem Matrix allows HP to focus our customer engagements around ‘data center infrastructure’ rather than ‘data center technologies’. CloudSystem Matrix efficiently delivers infrastructure in ‘building blocks’ directly to customers. This enables us to engage at a much more strategic level in our accounts. But, for some customers, CloudSystem Matrix may be too big of a leap. If your customer isn’t ready or right for CloudSystem Matrix, use the discussion opportunity to sell HP BladeSystem, Virtual Connect, Insight Control, planning and assessment services, etc.

Who in my customer should I talk to about CloudSystem Matrix?

Engage at the CIO and IT Director level. The higher in the organization you engage, the more you can focus the conversation on infrastructure, people and process changes required vs. just the technologies. When you engage with CIO’s, focus on business metrics – how much money can they save? How much faster can they do things? When engaging with IT Directors, discuss the business metrics and also help them understand how it will work in their specific environment. While Systems Administrators can be important advocates, they don’t have the budgetary authority to approve a CloudSystem Matrix purchase, nor the internal influence to drive process change to take maximum advantage of what CloudSystem Matrix offers. While Purchasing Managers may need to approve the final deal, they also don’t have the full view of the business strategy.

What is the buying and implementing experience for HP CloudSystem

Matrix? What should I expect?

The HP CloudSystem Matrix is a fully integrated infrastructure that is delivered and implemented in your environment with a single complete service. The estimated delivery and fulfillment time is about 3-6 weeks after order entry for the hardware integration by HP factory and the completion of the onsite implementation service for a basic single rack of CloudSystem Matrix. What are the main advantages of using Matrix OE infrastructure

templates with Cloud Service Automation in a CloudSystem Enterprise

Solution?

Matrix OE infrastructure templates provide many capabilities to define infrastructure services. Many of these capabilities are not available in competitors’ offerings and are unique to Matrix OE. Here are some of the capabilities provided by Matrix OE infrastructure templates:

How can an infrastructure service defined in Matrix OE be made available

in a CSA service catalog?

Infrastructure services defined in Matrix OE can be made available in a CSA service catalog without requiring the service to be redesigned. However, before the service can be added to the CSA service catalog and accessed via the CSA consumer portal, the service has to be turned into an “offering” by associating some business terms, such as offering price with the service. These activities can be done through the CSA Service Designer portal.

How do I define a service in CSA that deploys resources managed by

Matrix OE?

The recommended approach is to design the infrastructure service using the Matrix OE designer portal and create an infrastructure template to represent the service definition. Then reference this

infrastructure template (and the infrastructure service it represents) from a platform/application service defined in CSA. CSA will broker the request for resources to Matrix OE.

What’s New with CloudSystem Matrix 7.0?

• New bursting capability, specifically with the service provider Savvis. Cloudbursting will allow an IT administrator to provision services beyond the "private cloud" managed by Matrix by "bursting" into a public cloud for a specific template-defined service. The resources in the public cloud are paid for only when used, and released when the usage is complete, offering optimized cost as well as flexible use when needs require resources beyond the scope of the private cloud.

• Improvements in scalability by allowing provisioning of VM's up to 10,000 via the federated CMS architecture that was first enabled in Matrix 6.3. In the area of multi-tenancy, Matrix 7.0 provides enhancements in the management of VLANs, specifically allowing secure multi-tenancy through better separation of VLANs between different private cloud users.

• Enhancements to storage provisioning by offering the ability to automatically provision storage LUNs during the deployment of a service. This capability will is offered for both EVA and 3PAR FC storage arrays, and is built on enhancements to the existing Storage

Provisioning Manager interface introduced in version 6.3 and is included with Matrix. • In terms of disaster recovery, Matrix 7.0 offers integration with 3PAR storage replication for

automated recovery management of server profiles, in the same fashion that Matrix already supports EVA and XP storage replication.

• Additional best-practice solutions via the CloudMaps program, including templates, workflows and sizers for key application providers utilizing the Matrix solution. Additional APIs have been introduced, supporting key customer and partner requests.

With the release of version 6.3 of Insight Dynamics, HP continues to make is easier to gain the benefits of a private cloud today.

• Feature: 4X increase in scalability for service-catalog-based auto-provisioning in ‘federated mode’

o Benefit: With ever increasing virtual machine density and the need to manage more-and-more template-based workloads from a single-pane of glass, Insight Dyanmics

3.1

How does HP CloudSystem Matrix support a hybrid cloud strategy?

HP CloudSystem Matrix provisions physical and virtual infrastructure services in a data center. However, it also allows bursting to a public cloud provider such as HP Cloud Services, Amazon Web Services, or Savvis. In addition, HP CloudSystem Matrix allows customers to utilize bursting techniques to utilize resources from other HP CloudSystem Matrix environments in other data centers. Finally, HP CloudSystem Matrix allows service providers to customize the bursting provider to allow HP

3.2

Does CloudSystem provide physical server provisioning?

Yes, CloudSystem Matrix can provision physical blade servers along with virtual and cloud-based servers. When defining services using the Matrix OE infrastructure template, you can designate a server, or a server group, as a physical server resource, and Matrix OE will provision those server(s) as physical servers when the infrastructure defined in the template is actually realized during service creation. Matrix OE requires BladeSystem servers with Virtual Connect to deploy physical servers, although it can provision virtual machines on any x86 server.

3.3

Does CloudSystem Matrix support HP Proliant servers (DL or ML server

lines) or non-HP x86 servers as compute resource pools?

For physical server provisioning, CloudSystem Matrix supports HP BladeSystem servers with Virtual Connect. However, Matrix OE can provision virtual machines on any x86 servers supported by RHEL KVM, VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisors.

3.4

Will OpenStack technology replace current HP solutions like HP

CloudSystem?

Absolutely not. CloudSystem will remain the flagship, integrated offering for clients looking to build, manage and secure private, managed and public clouds. CloudSystem will leverage the modular design of the Converged Cloud architecture and the value delivered by OpenStack technology.

HP will incorporate OpenStack technologies into the core infrastructure management architecture of HP’s CloudSystem to enable access to resource pools across private, public, and managed clouds. HP will integrate these technologies with HP Converged Infrastructure and HP Converged Management and Security to build an integrated, out-of-the-box solution that continues to provide the robustness of an enterprise grade solution with capabilities like cloud service and application life cycle management and recovery management delivered in HP CloudSystem today.

3.5

How does HP CloudSystem Matrix work with Operations Orchestration?

 Matrix OE infrastructure orchestration (IO): IO is a core element of the Matrix OE, responsible for coordinating with other subsystems such as Insight Control server deployment, Ignite-UX, or HP Server Automation to provision infrastructure defined in a Matrix OE infrastructure

template.

 Embedded Operations Orchestration: There is an embedded version of Operations

Orchestration that is used for IO initiated workflows during the provisioning process, such as updating a load-balancer configuration. Matrix OE can use the embedded Operations

Orchestration or point to an existing Operations Orchestration server if the customer is already using Operations Orchestration.

3.6

Does CloudSystem Matrix support show-back and chargeback?

Show-back is the report of services provided, with or without associated costs, without a cost transfer, while chargeback is when those costs are allocated to business units or users via a cost transfer. CloudSystem Matrix collects cost information on the provisioned services. This information is available through CloudSystem Matrix’s reporting capabilities and through an externally accessible API to incorporate the information into external reporting products. In addition, HP partner Cloud Cruiser offers an advanced cost management solution that has out-of-the-box integration with HP CloudSystem. How does HP CloudSystem Matrix grow beyond IaaS?

One of the advantages of a HP CloudSystem portfolio of offerings is that customers can start small and grow tall. Customers can start with a single HP BladeSystem chassis delivered as a turnkey

Infrastructure-as-a-Service solution with CloudSystem Matrix. This allows organizations to start to understand the people and process impacts that will happen with private cloud. However, when

organizations are ready to grow, they build on top of their existing solutions. They can expand their IaaS services to incorporate their existing infrastructure. However, they can also mature and move to application provisioning with full life cycle management by adding Cloud Service Automation to their CloudSystem Matrix environment, creating a CloudSystem Enterprise solution. Likewise, if they want to provide services to external organizations, they can add Aggregation Platform for SaaS (AP4SaaS) to their CloudSystem Enterprise to create a CloudSystem Service Provider solution.

What are the supported components?

servers?

4.3

Does CloudSystem support HP-UX compute pools?

Yes. Matrix OE supports can deploy HP-UX in 2 ways:  Deploy to bare-metal HP Integrity servers

 Deploy to Integrity Virtual Machines running on HP Integrity host servers

Matrix OE utilizes Ignite-UX that HP-UX users are already familiar with to provision in both of these scenarios.

Can I add third party components or is this a closed system?

Because it is a standards-based solution, CloudSystem Matrix integrates with existing environments— networks, SANs, applications, operating systems, and hypervisors. CloudSystem Matrix is:

Support for most common operating systems and hypervisors

Matrix supports these native server operating systems: Microsoft Windows Server, HP-UX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).

CloudSystem Matrix supports VMware ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Red Hat RHEL KVM hypervisors as well as HP Integrity Virtual Machines.

Compatible with non-HP x86 servers

CloudSystem Matrix requires HP BladeSystem with Virtual Connect to perform a physical server deployment. However, CloudSystem Matrix can also manage VMware, Hyper-V, and RHEL KVM virtual machines on any of the hypervisor vendor supported x86 servers as long as the hypervisor is installed. Compatible with existing networks

Matrix connects seamlessly to existing Ethernet networks. Because Virtual Connect is a layer-2 bridge, not a switch, it integrates smoothly with any existing network. In addition, iSCSI is supported as a virtual machine backing store. While in most cases the storage resources must be pre-provisioned, there are additional capabilities with HP 3Par storage such as on demand provisioning.

Integration with IT and business operations

HP Cloud APIs enable CloudSystem Matrix integration with IT and business processes. Examples include linking into billing or chargeback systems and customizing the self-service portal to reflect company branding and standards. APIs also enable integration of Insight Software for Matrix management with enterprise management systems like HP Software and those from Computer Associates and Tivoli used to manage the broader IT environment.

Can I use Storage Provisioning Manager when CloudSystem is directly

connected to a 3PAR array (3PAR Flat SAN configuration)?

No. Storage Provisioning Manager (SPM) provides the capability to create storage pools for Matrix physical environments when CloudSystem Matrix is installing an operating system or hypervisor on a bare-metal server. Currently, both CloudSystem Matrix and SPM are not aware of the new Virtual Connect “direct attach” path versus today’s “fiber attach” path to enable this to work.

Can I use VMware vMotion to move VMs across CloudSystem Matrix

systems located in different data centers?

CloudSystem Matrix does not support the online migration of virtual machines, via techniques such as vMotion, between CloudSystem Matrix managed resources pools or between data centers. However, CloudSystem Matrix does support the offline failover of infrastructure services using the Matrix OE recovery management features.
