I. INTRODUCTION

Wireless technologies have made significant progress in recent years, allowing many applications in addition to traditional communications and the transmission of high-speed data with sophisticated mobile devices and smart objects. In fact, they also changed the field of metrology especially the sensor networks and the smart sensors. The establishment of an intelligent sensor system requires the insertion of wireless communication which has changed the world of telecommunications. In this system the reliable messages transfer through the alternatives ways by using various types of communication technologies. In our system we uses economically ranges communication protocols .i.e. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, zigbee, or GSM/GPRS.

In local area network if two persons communicate with each other then system first uses the low cost communication technique i.e. Wi-Fi..If there is any problem with wifi range the system goes to second option i.e. Bluetooth and communicate. If there is again any problem with Bluetooth then system choose third option i.e.zigbee and if there is also any problem with zigbee then system uses GSM/GPRS. In short any ways message or any data transfer from one point to other point by using economic communication Media. In the system the message transfer by interfacing various communications technologies with raspberry pi kit. Those systems automatically choose the communication media based on fast and cheaper communication.

A.Raspberry Pi B+ Board

Raspberry Pi (represented in Figure 1) is a credit-card-sized single-board computer developed in the UK by Raspberry Pi foundation with the intention of stimulating the teaching of basic computer science in schools. It has two models; Model A has 256Mb RAM, one USB port and no network connection. Model B has 512Mb RAM, 2 USB ports and an Ethernet port. It has a Broadcom BCM2835 system on a chip which includes an ARM1176JZF-S 700 MHz processor, Video Core IV GPU, and an SD card. The GPU is capable of Blu-ray quality playback, using H.264 at 40MBits/s. It has a fast 3D core accessed using the supplied OpenGL ES2.0 and OpenVG libraries. The chip specifically provides HDMI and there is no VGA support. The foundation provides Debian and Arch Linux ARM distributions and also Python as the main programming language, with the support for BBC BASIC, C and Perl.

Bluetooth is a low cost, low power, universal radio interface in the 2.45GHz frequency ISM band that enables portable electronic devices to connect and communicate wirelessly via short-range, ad hoc networks. Bluetooth radios use Frequencyhop (FH) spread spectrum which divide the frequency band into several hop channels in order to cope with severe interference. Bluetooth units that are within range of each other can set up ad hoc connections. Each unit can communicate with up to seven other units per piconet. To regulate traffic on the channel, one of the participating units become a master and all other participants are slaves. Communication in a piconet is organized so that the master polls each slave according to a polling scheme.

A master-toslave packet uses central polling scheme to eliminate collisions between slave transmissions. A resistive touchscreen panel comprises of several layers, the most important of which are two thin, transparent electricallyresistive layers separated by a thin space. These layers face each other; with a thin gap between. The top layer (the screen that is touched) has a coating on the underside surface of the screen. Just beneath it is a similar resistive layer on top of its substrate. One layer has conductive connections along its sides, the other along top and bottom. A voltage is applied to one layer, and sensed by the other. When an object, such as a fingertip or stylus tip, presses down on the outer surface, the two layers come into contact at that point. The panel then behaves as a pair of voltage dividers, by rapidly switching between each layer, the position of a pressure on the screen can be read one axis at a time [1].The figure of Raspberry Pi B+ Board as shown below[1].

C. Bluetooth Interfacing

Bluetooth is a networking technology aimed at low-powered, short range applications. It was initially developed by Ericsson, but is governed as an open specification by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. Bluetooth is a recently proposed standard for short range, low power wireless communication. Initially, it is being envisioned simply as a wire replacement technology. Its most commonly described application is that of a “cordless computer “consisting of several devices including a personal computer, possibly a laptop, keyboard, mouse, joystick, printer, scanner, etc., each equipped with a Bluetooth card. There are no cable connections between these devices, and Bluetooth is to enable seamless communication between all them, essentially replacing what is today achieved through a combination of serial and parallel cables, and infrared links. However, Bluetooth has the potential for being much more than a wire replacement technology, and the Bluetooth standard was indeed drafted with such a more ambitious goal in mind. Bluetooth holds the promise of becoming the technology of choice for adhoc networks of the future. This is in part because its low power consumption and potential low cost make it an attractive solution for the typical mobile devices used in adhoc networks. Bluetooth is a specification for Wireless Personal Area. It is a way to connect and exchange information and data between mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras and video games.

The communication is wireless and has the range of up to 10 meters [3].The Figure of Bluetooth modem shown below[3].

D. Zigbee Interfacing

ZigBee is the only standards-based wireless technology designed to address the unique needs of cost, low-power wireless sensor and control networks in just about any market. Since ZigBee can be used almost anywhere, is easy to implement and needs little power to operate, the opportunity for growth into new markets, as well as innovation in existing markets, is limitless. ZigBee is cost-effectively add intelligent new features that improve the efficiency, safety, security, reliability and convenience of your products. ZigBee utilizes IEEE 802.15.4 as the communication protocol. ZigBee networks operate in an unlicensed band shared by many other wireless networks. Any network structure using ZigBee uses 3 types of devices[4].

1) ZigBee Coordinator (ZC):

It is the most capable device the forms the root of the network tree. There is exactly one ZigBee co coordinator in each network. During network initializing phase, the coordinator scans the available radio channels to find the most suitable one. Normally it is the channel with least traffic to minimize interference.

2) ZigBee Router (ZR):

It acts as an intermediate device, passing on data from other ZigBees.

3) ZigBee End Device (ZED):

E. GSM/GPRS Interfacing

The SIM900A is a GSM/GPRS module which works on various frequencies such as 850MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz to send SMS (Rhydo Technologies, 2011). The modem is designed with RS232 level converter circuitry which allows it to be connected to the microcontroller serial interface. It also has TCP/IP stack which enables the microcontroller to connect to internet via GPRS. An SMS activation system is implemented, which detects abnormal behaviour and communicates with a remote tele-care centre, the clients, and their caregivers (Barnes, 1998)[7]. The SMS module consists of a GSM modem and a control program. The control program, GSM-dial up and communication protocol are stored in the embedded gateway and the GSM modem is connected to the Raspberry pi via serial interface to the switching module. The SMS module acts as an interface between the embedded processor and the GSM network, enabling the system login to the network and making the system ready for any data transfer and communication. The module takes the AT command from remote terminal or mobile devices and sends them to switching module via the GSM network [11].The GSM/GPRS set up figure shown below[12].

III. CONCLUSION

This paper has presented a broad overview of the four mostpopular wireless standard WI-Fi , Bluetooth, ZigBee and GSM/GPRS with a quantitative evaluation in terms of the message transmission time, data coding efficiency, protocol complexity, and power consumption. This paper is not to draw any conclusion regarding which one is superior since the suitability of network protocols is greatly influenced by practical applications, of which many other factors such as the network reliability, roaming capability, recovery mechanism, chipset price, and installation cost need to be considered in the future.
