Business Administration
2-year AAS degree | Potential Careers: Banker, human resources manager
Transfer track to the Henry B. Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. The Business Administration program prepares students for careers in diverse areas of business and is based on a strong foundation ofbusiness and general education courses. Upon completion of the program, students may choose to transfer to the Henry B. Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa or go directly into the workforce with a marketable credential.
Business Administration: Accounting
2-year AAS degree | Potential Careers: Accounting clerk, cost accounting
Kirkwood Community College offers several options for students interested in accounting careers. This program provides students with the background they need to enter entry-level positions in general accounting, cost accounting, tax, credit or other specialized areas of financial accounting and financial reporting. This program is accredited by ACBSP (Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs). ACBSP is the leading specialized accreditation association for business education supporting, celebrating and rewarding teaching excellence.
Administrative Assistant
2-year AAS degree | Potential Careers: Administrative assistant, executive assistant
Become a member of the executive team in today’s fast-paced business environment. Our degree includes in-depth instruction in computer applications (word processing, desktop publishing, multimedia) and essential workplace soft skills (teamwork, project development, problem-solving).
Apparel Merchandising
2-year AAS degree | Potential Careers: Fashion sales/ buyer, visual merchandiser
The Apparel Merchandising non-transfer plan of study is designed to provide students with fashion knowledge, sales, managerial and supervisory skills necessary for immediate involvement in the area of retailing. The program incorporates a supervised internship in a retail establishment and annual fashion show to provide opportunities to learn outside the classroom.
Credits earned in the Apparel Merchandising transfer plan of study are fully transferable to Iowa State University. Two additional years of study at ISU will earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design, which will prepare students for corporate positions.

Communications Media/Public Relations

This program provides an internship opportunity to give students real-world experience.

Interior Design
2-year AAS degree | Potential Careers: Interior designer, residential retail sales
Interior Designers are creative business professionals who have the ability to innovatively solve design problems functionally and aesthetically while also improving the overall health, safety, and welfare of users through design. The Interior Design program prepares and equips students to practice and serve the community by providing education and training in residential design, commercial design, sustainability, and other areas of specialization in the field of interior design.
This highly interactive program is taught with a student centered approach within a positive and respectful learning environment. Students are provided with a combination of classroom projects, hands on training, and classroom instruction that emphasizes ethical, creative, technical, and responsible problem solving through design. Students study all areas of interior design including but not limited to: Residential Design, Commercial Design, Hospitality Design, Product Design, Sustainable Design, Historical Design, Photoshop, SketchUp, and Revit.
Students also learn professional practice concepts and are able to apply those concepts towards assembling a portfolio and resume which are then used to obtain an internship in the field of interior design. Additionally, students have the option of attending numerous field trips to major urban cities such as Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City and more. Other national and international trips are open to students at various times throughout the year.
Business Administration: Management

The Management program provides an extensive selection of introductory, advanced, general and technical management courses. The degree is designed for someone who would like to develop management skills for career advancement.
This program offers many management electives and general electives to provide students the opportunity to take courses that fit their specific needs. Certificate options are available for students who want to specialize in human resources, project management, entrepreneurship, social media, global perspectives, technical accounting, retail marketing, and sales. Online Option: 100% of this program can be taken online.
Business Administration: Marketing
2-year AAS degree | Potential Careers: Sales, store manager
Marketing promotes profitable exchanges in goods and services across all sectors - from solo entrepreneurs to small businesses, from global corporations to non-profits. Effective marketing allows essentially every kind of organization to grow and prosper allowing vast employment opportunities. It’s the marketing professional’s job to create, manage and enhance brands. To some, this is a scary time to be in marketing, as the very foundation of how we communicate with customers is being disrupted by the Internet and social media. Today they’re just a few clicks away on your Facebook page, Twitter profile or Instagram feed. Marketing can even lead to better communities, locally and across the globe. These fields need professionals with a strong initiative and spirit of competition. Successful students also exhibit strong entrepreneurial, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
Through this program, students have the opportunity to earn certificates in Retail, Sales and Social Media Marketing.
Restaurant Management
2-year AAS degree | Potential Careers: Restaurant manager, hotel/resort dining services
Learn management and food service techniques, nutrition, purchasing, sanitation, computers, human relations and legal aspects of the hospitality industry, all while working in a real restaurant, serving 21-meals a week. The Class Act Resturant is open to the public and is located in The Hotel at Kirkwood Center. By taking this program through Kirkwood, you will be ready for entry-level management postions.
