HERE TO SHAKE UP

HEALTH INSURANCE

Sovereign has taken a long, hard look at the health insurance market. We’ve scrutinised our products,

listened to Advisers and asked New Zealanders what they really want.

Advisers told us they want our products to be more competitive. Customers told us they wanted more simplicity and value. They used phrases like, “knowing I’m covered for the big stuff”, and “making me feel valued”.

Why health insurance?

We have received feedback from Advisers that health insurance can stimulate a good conversation. It’s a lifestyle product designed to be claimed on throughout lifes’ journey, not just at older ages and it’s not just for major surgery. In fact, industry statistics1 show that:

> Three in four 20 year olds will claim on their private health insurance by the time they’ve reached 30; and > One in three couples in their early 30’s with a young child will claim on their policy in a given year.

Clients should consider private health insurance before they develop medical issues to give themselves certainty and choice.

Health insurance also provides you with a significant cross-sell opportunity – the majority of Sovereign health insurance policies2 are cross-sold

with other insurance policies. Therefore, we encourage you to discuss health insurance the next time you speak with your clients. 1. Health Funds Association of New Zealand March 2014 “claims incidence rates” for Major Medical.

ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS

A separate benefit for cancer care has been developed to support people through a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. They are covered for any required surgery and hospitalisation in addition to Pharmac and non-Pharmac funded chemotherapy alternatives. We recognise that the battle against cancer is more than just surgical or medical treatment. To further assist our customers, we have introduced post-cancer allowances for support services, therapies or personal items.

Options

Access

We recognise that Kiwis have a choice of receiving treatment in either the private or the public system. If your client decides to use the public system and the treatment received is covered under the policy, then we will credit their annual premium (provided the treatment requires at least a two night stay in hospital).

Our products provide an option to receive treatment in Australia. We recognise that people may live in Australia at different times in their life. We have created a policy that allows you to continue with your cover whether you live in Auckland or Adelaide.

Along with cover in Australia, should a situation arise where clients need treatment but the wait to receive care in the private health system is over six months in New Zealand, they may be eligible to access the treatment overseas if they prefer, rather than waiting. In addition, if the required treatment cannot be performed in New Zealand we offer a benefit of up to $30,000 per year, to access the treatment internationally.

Private Health Cover and Private Health Plus have been designed to take care of the significant costs of

hospitalisation and surgery that many New Zealanders face during their lives.

Highlights are:

> Cover for surgery and hospitalisation up to $300,000 per year.

> Major diagnostic imaging and tests are covered whether or not related to a surgery or hospitalisation

up to $100,000 per year.

Private Health Plus offers additional access to specialist consultations and cover for diagnostic imaging and testing outside of surgical procedures or hospitalisation. It also provides cover through loyalty benefits designed to support access to routine screening to keep people healthy.

We have extended our benefits to include features which provide our customers with more support, flexibility and options for cover. They are:
