begins with ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein
We develop the packaging steel of the future for you –
efficient, highly optimized, and sustainable.
For ever-better steel packaging and maximum resource
conservation.
HCR for improved corrosion resistance
High corrosion resistance (HCR) is particularly important in applications where the
packaging steel remains unpainted. ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein has developed a new
grade of material called HCR whose surface has been specifically optimized for such
applications.
The HCR product owes its high corrosion resistance to a special finishing process resulting in an extremely low-pore tin alloy coating. This makes it possible to reduce the thickness of the tin layer.
Thin, thinner, Thinplate
Thinplate stands for reliable high-end material in thinner thicknesses. Precisely the kind of material that sustainable companies are looking for today when they think of efficient packaging steel. Our top product, the ultrathin packaging steel
“Nulleinhundert” (zero one-hundred) is fully applicable in the grades listed below. It is deep-drawable and weldable. “Nulleinhundert” is the result of joint development work on the part of ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein, its parent company and leading machine manufacturers. Current application areas are three-piece food cans and closures.

You expect ever-thinner material with the
same good properties and continuous
improvement of packaging steel – in
response, we deliver Thinplate.
The right packaging steel for your
applications
Tensile strength [MPa]
Elongation [%]
Changing markets often demand new material properties.
That’s why we keep on developing our packaging steel further
so that we can meet your needs and those of your customers
even better.
We’ll be happy to help you select the most appropriate packaging steel for your applications. If your focus is on especially formable steel with high expansion rates and very good deep-drawability, High Formability Steel is the ideal material grade for you. Expansion rates of 40 percent are possible.
Our DR Formable grade delivers sufficiently high material expansion even at very high strength levels. Depending on the required material hardness, the elongation is at least 3 percent up to 10 percent higher than with Standard DR material. Another plus: DR Formable is the ideal grade for downgauging.
Coatplate enlarges your performance spectrum
Our R&D people are working on applications that will open up completely new possibilities for you. PET on tin-coated material for particularly bright visual impact. Highly formable PET on packaging steel for applications with high formability requirements. A combination of PET/PP for aggressive filling goods or for lid rings. The future is within reach.
Polymer-coated packaging steels for innovative special applications.
BPA-free.
Innovative grades for easy open ends
The manufacturing of easy open ends makes particularly high
demands on packaging steel. ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein is therefore
working to further develop the grades for easy open lids.
Material grades
TH 550TH 580 TH 620 TH 650
Under development: Strength > 700 MPa With sufficient elongation > 5 %
Available thicknesses: today, down to 0.16 mm
Our aim:
To supply the ideal material for easy open ends – grades with high strength yet sufficient ductility for rivet forming operations for optimal lid opening behavior.
Thinner material, yet high strength
Improved efficiency for tab stock
Material grades
TH 415 – TH 620 TH 650Under development: Strength > 700 MPa
Available thicknesses: 0.24 – 0.43 mm
Reducing thicknesses still further presents a special challenge for tab stock in terms of material strength.
Our DR Formable grades are the packaging steels of choice for this application. Our zinc-coated variety (EZ tab stock) delivers exceptional anticorrosive performance.
Thinning potential for food cans
Thin, strong and corrosion resistant – these attributes express in a nutshell
what you can expect from today’s packaging steel for three-piece food cans.
Thinplate from ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein opens up potential for reducing the thickness of your food cans still further. And is, of course, also available as higher-strength packaging steel with heightened corrosion resistance, which can make it possible to reduce the coating weight of the tin.
Material grades
TS 245 – TS 580 TH 520 – TH 650 Available thicknesses: 0.10 – 0.30 mm Tomorrow: thickness < 0.100 mm
High-performance packaging steel for
beverage cans
Material grades
TH 330 – TH 340 Available thicknesses: 0.205 – 0.30 mm
For beverage cans, ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein offers you packaging steel that assures long tool life. This special steel allows you to increase the tool life for wall-ironing rings up to 1,000,000 cans.
Future thickness reductions down to 0.16 mm appear feasible.
Beverage can manufacturing is a highly demanding operation.
So naturally, nothing but the best will do here.
