What is CTE?

• Career and Technical Education (CTE) is a broad system of

courses that encompass a variety of challenging pathways

that reflect our changing global economy.

• CTE programs provide high school students with

career-oriented instruction which enables them to easily transition

into the workplace or postsecondary education.

• Louisiana high schools offer more than 200 courses and

over 50 Industry Based Certifications.

Objectives of CTE Programs

Meet the challenge of not only providing students with a

high school education, but effectively engaging them

during high school so they continue to postsecondary

education to become global citizens with innovative and

entrepreneurial attitudes.

Integrate rigorous academics with relevant, work-based

learning and technical content that aligns with current,

emerging and projected labor market needs.

CTE Delivery

Charter schools can develop differentiating CTE strategies that

support and expand upon their academic strategies.

• All CTE courses are aligned to common core standards and

internationally benchmarked

• Courses offered through CTE are aligned with postsecondary

instruction and offer dual enrolment or articulation credit

In 2010, Louisiana had a low annual median income:

$30,172 for women

$44,380 for men

Louisiana’s growing industries pay higher than average

salaries and offer immediate opportunities for

employment and advancement

Energy/Oil & Gas Production and Refining

Louisiana is a major producer and transporter of domestic energy. There are some 23,000 jobs in this industry in Louisiana.

The state could develop up to 90,000 new jobs over the next two decades in sustainable industries.

Louisiana is leveraging the convergence of the state's project work, funding and expertise in the water management space.

The water management industry could generate 20,000 to 45,000 high-paying, direct and indirect jobs in Louisiana by 2029.
