Kitchen Units

The following section outlines our range of

standalone temporary kitchen units and ancillary

support facilities, which can be linked to our

kitchens to provide additional preparation,

storage, refrigeration or warewashing space.

Where you require help with design, we have

developed a range of Proven Packages -

combinations of our temporary kitchens and

support facilities linked together - which can be

viewed in the next section, on pages 28-51.

To make it easy for you to specify a kitchen

equipment layout that suits your menu

requirements, we have produced a range of

Favoured Footprints - combinations of catering

equipment that fit along the production side of

our temporary kitchens - which are illustrated on

pages 52-57. Once you have chosen a kitchen

size that suits your needs, all you need to do is

specify the Favoured Footprint that you would

like inside it and give us a call.

Alternatively, if your cooking requirements are

a little more specific, we have a range of 9,000

items of catering equipment from which you can

create your own bespoke kitchen design. A full

list of catering equipment is illustrated on pages

66-70 and more detailed information is provided

in the “PKL Catering Equipment Guide brochure”

which is available on request.

Wall Construction

The wall panels are a composite sandwich panel construction, lined internally with a powder coated foodsafe steel skin

providing a wipe clean finish.

The wall is externally lined with a PVC plastisol coated steel skin. The core of the panel is comprised of 60mm dense rockwool insulation. The panel is non-combustible and CFC free.

Carbon Dioxide and

Monoxide Testing

PKL test portable kitchens and catering equipment as part of the commissioning and testing process to ensure a safe level of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in accordance with BS7967.

Full Length

Extraction Canopy

All of our temporary production kitchens are supplied with a full length extraction canopy as standard.

Fire Suppression

All of our production kitchens are supplied with built in wet

chemical fire suppression

system as standard.

Temporary Kitchen Features

Climate Control

Portable kitchens are supplied with an easy clean, stainless steel, high powered ventilation system that guarantees 30 changes of air per hour. Optional temperature controlled kitchen preparation and storage units are also available.

Light Levels

All portable kitchens have LUX levels of between 300 and 500 to ensure a safe food preparation environment.

Floors

The floors in PKL portable kitchens comply with BS7976 and achieve a friction coefficient of 36 or higher in order

to achieve a “low slip potential”. All units have a 5kN

floor loading, ensuring minimum deflection, and are solid

underfoot, able to withstand the rigours of the commercial catering environment.

Coved Flooring

The use of coved flooring in our kitchens makes them

Kitchens are supplied with hygiene stations which includes a hand wash sink, towel dispenser and a soap dispenser.

Gas Interlock

Ventilation is supplied in accordance with industry guidance DW172 and BS6173. A gas interlock system is supplied, which stops gas from entering the facility in the event of a loss of ventilation. All installations and testing are undertaken by Gas Safe registered engineers.

and incorporate the latest health and safety features.

All units are quality checked prior to each hire, ensuring they

reach you in the very best condition.

IP Rated Sockets

Mini Kitchens

The Mini Kitchen is our compact kitchen designed for use at sites where space may be at a premium. Ideal for smaller catering operations, the Mini Kitchen provides room for up to three chefs to work comfortably. The Mini Kitchen can produce up to 500 meals per day in its standard layout, although performance can be greatly increased with the addition of optional equipment. Extensively used by nursing homes, pubs and small

hotels, the Mini Kitchen is a fast and flexible solution for

your temporary catering needs.

The Field Kitchen is our smallest production kitchen and

is traditionally used for smaller or more specific catering

requirements.

Typically used by nursing homes, small pubs and hotels, the Field Kitchen provides a secure and hygienic working environment for two chefs.

The kitchen is ideal for supplying up to 250 meals per day and can be operational within minutes of arrival on site.

Mixed Double Kitchens

The Mixed Double is the same size as our Magnum Kitchen, but provides a separate cold or dry storage room inside the unit.

This kitchen is suitable for use for large scale catering operations such as hospitals, large care homes, the MOD, event caterers and for industrial canteens.

Depending on the equipment specification, the Mixed

Double Kitchen is capable of producing up to 500 meals per day.

Magnum Kitchens

The Magnum Kitchen is designed for use by all large scale catering operations including hospitals, hotels, MOD, industrial canteens and event caterers. Depending on the equipment selection, the Magnum Kitchen is capable of providing up to 1,000 meals per day, or an expanded menu range compared with our

smaller units, and provides space for up to five chefs

to work.

The Mini Triton Plus is similar to the Mini Triton

Kitchen but offers extra preparation and storage

space.

The facility comprises four separate units

These three unit temporary kitchens offer all the benefits

of the large Triton Kitchens (see page 14), but have a smaller footprint.

They offer the same separation of kitchen areas for good

catering practice, and include production space, ample preparation facilities and an enclosed dry or cold storage space.

Our eKitchens are provided with a number of energy efficient

features which help to reduce energy consumption and improve the insulation property of the building.

We have a number of standard eKitchen units within our hire

fleet available in a range of different sizes. If you would like an

eKitchen facility rather than a standard temporary kitchen facility, please ask us.

Triton Kitchens

This kitchen is the most comprehensive of all our standard portable kitchens and comprises three separate units,

offering a pleasant walk-through working environment.

Measuring 75m2, the Triton Kitchen can be operational

within eight hours of delivery and is capable of producing in excess of 2,000 meals per sitting, depending on catering

equipment specification.

Triton Kitchens are widely specified by the MOD, hospitals,

large scale events and contract caterers.

Central Island Canopies

Central Island Canopies have been developed to provide temporary production kitchens for larger events or mass public gatherings.

Catering equipment is installed along the centre of the canopy providing 12 metres of cooking space. Each canopy can hold up to eight 24 rack combination ovens, eight 250 litre boiling pans or twelve six burner ovens.

Fire safe Mobile Canopies have been specifically designed

for use within marquees, football stadia, conference venues and exhibition halls, allowing complete peace of mind. Catering equipment stands on a robust platform providing

a flat and hygienic base for your production operation.

The 2.25 or 2.9 metre canopies come with an automatic

fire suppression system and a full length extraction canopy to eliminate fire risks, carbon monoxide poisoning and the

release of cooking fumes and odours.

The Portable Coldroom provides an immediate solution to refrigeration problems. Can have up to 40m3 of storage

space and requires only a single phase electrical supply. Supplied with four tier food safe racking, this unit is ideal for use during large refurbishment projects, to provide extra cold storage space during seasonal increases in demand, or to provide emergency facilities if your refrigeration equipment suddenly goes down.

The Dry Store Unit is a secure, hygienic facility available in two sizes and can be linked to a temporary kitchen unit or to a permanent building with ease. Proven Pacakges were created to save you time and money when deciding on a temporary facility. Our 15 Proven Packages range in size to cater for all your projects. Our smallest consists of only two units while our largest Proven Package is a combination of 12 units and dining for 360 people.

canteen due to our client’s own being refurbished. With the Mini Kitchen changed to Favoured

staff to work in comfort and the

addition of the coldroom (fridge or freezer) allows for weekly deliveries of chilled or frozen

food. This package is also a great hospitality kitchen and is often chosen for short term event projects as it is all delivered on a single vehicle and the hire rates

At over 8.6m, the Magnum Kitchen can house a huge array of production equipment, making

it the most versatile unit in our fleet.

PP4 is an event favourite where large numbers of hospitality meals need to be provided, especially where the meals are mainly prepared on site and not pre-delivered, hence the

additional prep space offered.

This facility can easily produce in excess of 1,000 high quality meals, as a large number of our

existing clients do on a regular

basis. This configuration of units has

also proved popular as a research and development kitchen for ready meal manufacturers, giving them the facility they need without having to spend capital on building something that may not be needed long term.

With the use of the Mini Kitchen and the smaller prep rooms, it keeps the overall size down to a minimum, which, as we know at these major events, is imperative due to being charged per m2
