Sampling Programs and Pick up Options

Nova has also supported clients with sampling schedules running weekly routes for predetermined locations, the samples would then be analyzed next day at the Lloydminster location. This can include sample pick for samples taken by the client staff.

NOVA has also performed on time field survey sampling programs taking sampling from multiple locations in order to identify locations that would have a higher TVP.

3. Testing Equipment

• True Vapour Pressure - ASTM D 6377

The ASTM D6377 test method measures the vapor pressure of crude oil. This expansion method is used for automated vapor pressure instruments to determine the vapor pressure exerted in vacuum of crude oils and condensate.

Eralytics ERAVAP Vapour Pressure Analyzer-FPC-ASTM D6377

NOVA operates and maintains equipment at an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 CALA Accredited standard. Mobile testing and sampling will have specific ISO accreditation. Testing and sampling SOPs are available for review.

• BS&W ASTM D 4007

This test method describes the laboratory determination of water and sediment in crude oils by means of the centrifuge procedure.

Performing a S&W Test using a L-K Benchmark C Centrifuge ASTM 4007.

• Total Sulfur ASTM D 4294

ASTM D4294-16e1, Standard Test Method for Sulfur in Petroleum and Petroleum Products by Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry,

This test method provides rapid and precise measurement of total sulfur in petroleum and petroleum products with a minimum of sample preparation. A typical analysis time is 1 min to 5 min per sample.

Sulphur Horiba Analyzer SLFA-2800

TDG requirements. The x-ray tube is not class 7, TDG does not apply there is no radiation emitter when not in use. When in use it is sealed.

• Density - ASTM D 5002

This test method covers the determination of the density or relative density of crude oils that can be handled in a normal fashion as liquids at test temperatures between 15 °C and 35 °C

utilizing either manual or automated sample injection equipment. This test method applies to crude oils with high vapor pressures provided appropriate precautions are taken to prevent vapor loss during transfer of the sample to the density analyzer.

• Flash Point - ASTM D 93

Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester. These test methods cover the determination of the flash point of petroleum products in the temperature range from 40 °C to 370 °C by a manual Pensky-Martens closed-cup Apparatus.

• Viscosity – ASTM D 7042

1.1 This test method covers and specifies a procedure for the concurrent measurement of both the dynamic viscosity, η, and the density, ρ, of liquid petroleum products and crude oils, both transparent and opaque. The kinematic viscosity, ν, can be obtained by dividing the dynamic viscosity, η, by the density, ρ, obtained at the same test temperature.

1.2 The result obtained from this test method is dependent upon the behavior of the sample and is intended for application to liquids for which primarily the shear stress.

• Collecting Liquid Hydrocarbon Using Floating Piston Cylinder – ASTM D4057

NOVA has equipment for both floating piston cyliners and glycol displacement cylinders. NOVA SOPs outline equipment and the method for obtaining a representative sample of a homogeneous

hydrocarbon based on ASTM D4057 Manual Sampling of Petroleum Products and CCQTA Single Phase Sampling Procedure V1.1.

• Sample Location

Flow, pressure and a good amount of turbulence will create optimal conditions for taking a

representative sample. Technically the best place is if there is an engineered sample point with a static mixer and quill. Short of that anywhere where there is pressure, flow and a valve should work.

• Treater legs • LACTS • Tanks Farms

4. QA\QC

NOVA has ISO/IEC 17025:2017 CALA Accreditation standard for mobile testing and sampling procedures.

http://www.caladirectory.ca/lab_info.php?action=search&search=mem&wId=s&lab=Nova%20Analytics &mId=4027.

Joint ISO-ILAC-IAF - A laboratory's fulfillment of the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 means the

laboratory meets both the technical competence requirements and management system requirements that are necessary for it to consistently deliver technically valid test results and calibrations. The management system requirements in ISO/IEC 17025 are written in language relevant to laboratory operations and operate in accordance with the principles of ISO 9001.

NOVA actively participates in the ASTM Crude Oil Proficiency Testing Program that includes receiving, analyzing and reporting results to ASTM quarterly.

NOVA is committed to continuous learning and actively participates in CCQTA, COQA, Canadian School of Hydrocarbon Measurement (CSHM) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) training programs and workshops.

ASTM Proficiency Testing

ASTM’s Crude Oil Proficiency Testing Program provides laboratories with a statistical quality assurance (SQA) tool, enabling them to compare, improve, and maintain, a high level of performance in the use of ASTM methods with other laboratories worldwide.
