ADULT FORMATION AT ST. JOHN PARISH Finding Jesus with St Therese of Lisieux

On Thursday evening Sept. 9th at 7:15pm in the church we will begin our year-long course on the life of St. Therese of Lisieux… “the Little Flower.”

Fr. John Riley, Spiritual Director of the Diocese of Arling- ton’s San Damiano Retreat Center will be offering this free course for any who would like to join us.

We’ll work our way slowly through St. Therese’s autobiog- raphy, Story of a Soul reading and considering a chapter each month. St. John’s will make the book available at a 40% mark- down for those who would like to purchase a copy. St.

Therese, proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by St. John Paul the Great will teach us how to overcome scruples… how to be patient… how to get along with people who drive us crazy…

how to pray… and how to follow a “little way” thru Mary to Jesus.

Darryl & Susan Adams, Confirmation Coordinator & RE Assistant | [email protected] We hope to begin our new in-person CCD class on Monday, September 20, with classes for grades 1- 8, from 6:00pm to 7:15pm in Father Ruehl Hall. During the CCD class time, there will be a Holy Hour in the church, with confessions available starting at 6:30pm. We hope parents, as well as our cate- chists and students, can make use of this time for prayer, adoration, repentance and healing. Enroll online! Visit the parish website.

On Sept 8, we celebrate the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to the non- canonical Protevangelium of James, we learn about the birth of the Mother of God: “And, behold, an angel of the Lord stood by, saying: ‘Anna, Anna, the Lord has heard your prayer, and you shall conceive, and shall bring forth; and your seed shall be spoken of in all the world.’ And Anna said: ‘As the Lord my God lives, if I beget either male or female, I will bring it as a gift to the Lord my God; and it shall minis- ter to Him in holy things all the days of its life.’ And, behold, two angels came, saying to her: ‘Behold, Joachim your husband is coming with his flocks.’ For an angel of the Lord went down to him, saying: ‘Joachim, Joachim, the Lord God has heard your prayer. Go down hence, for, behold, your wife Anna shall conceive.’ … And behold, Joachim came with his flocks; and Anna stood by the gate, and saw Joachim coming, and she ran and hung upon his neck, saying: ‘Now I know that the Lord God has blessed me exceedingly; for, behold the widow no longer a widow, and I the childless shall conceive.’ And Joachim rested the first day in his house. And on the following day he brought his offerings, saying in himself: ‘If the Lord God has been rendered gracious to me, the plate on the priest’s forehead will make it manifest to me. And Joachim brought his offer- ings and observed attentively the priest’s plate when he went up to the altar of the Lord, and he saw no sin in himself. And Joa- chim said: ‘Now I know that the Lord has been gracious unto me and has remitted all my sins.’ And he went down from the tem- ple of the Lord justified and departed to his own house. And her months were fulfilled, and in the ninth month Anna brought forth. And she said to the midwife: ‘What have I brought forth?’ And she said: ‘A girl.’ And said Anna: ‘My soul has been mag- nified this day.’ And she laid her down. And the days having been fulfilled, Anna was purified, and gave the breast to the child, and called her name Mary.”

September 11th – TMIY Returns

Men of the parish, Join us on Saturday mornings at 6:30AM in Fr Ruehl Hall. The Semester Objective: Dis- cover that the kingdom of God is not of this world yet within your midst and your heart. Boldly proclaim the kingdom in both word and deed.

This week’s feature: Mother Teresa Parish Code: QBKRGW DIVINE MERCY SAID: "I am giving you three ways of exercising mercy toward your neighbor: the first - by deed, the second - by word, the third--by prayer. In these three degrees is contained the fullness of mercy and it is an unquestionable proof of the fullness of mercy, and it is an unquestionable proof of love for Me. By this means a soul glorifies and pays reverence to My mercy...By means of this image I shall grant many graces to souls. It is to be a reminder of the demands

of My mercy, because even the strongest faith is of no avail without works." (St. Faustina Diary, 742) Used with permission of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the B.V.M."

Through your support, the MCP Appeal helps these mission organizations form vibrant faith communities and strengthens the global Church. Please be generous. Fr. Stephen McGraw, son of a parishioner, has been assigned to this mission for 4 years - let’s show our support! To learn more about the mission go to www.arlingtonmissions.org.

We have seen throughout America how organized, radical groups have taken over local governments and school boards while Catholics sat on the sidelines. With the size of our Faith Community - together with other local Christian groups - we can prevent that from happening here.

To be successful, however, Catholics must be organized and active. New members are needed for a “consensus team” to steer the Group. Contact Tom McFadden, 540-252-9138;

John Lundberg 253-273-2951; or John Pennell 845-500- 3734 for more information. Parishioners are invited to sub- scribe to the group’s email service which distributes infor- mation on a wide variety of civic matters. To subscribe, send an email to: frontroyalcatholics-subscribe@
